Feyris is one of Okabe's kind. Idk that makes me ship them a little. Too bad, Okabe and Kurisu is a match made in heaven. In the end, Okabe is selfish and he knows it. It's not his fault though. If I was in his position, I would have done the same.

This show is amazing..

I feel so sad for Faris... I mean... to save Mayuri, Faris have to give up her father and the memories.

Now I wish there will be an Alternate Universe for every girls. I think most of them like Okarin and I want them all to be happy in that universes. Like Faris is obviously in love with Okarin. And we know that Kurisu will probably fall for him. Then of course Mayuri the osanajimi (childhood friend).

I'll be honest, I thought the bit about Faris remembering events from different word lines seemed a bit too convenient, even though it somewhat made sense. Proper foreshadowing would've helped fix this problem methinks.
Also, that's just my personal opinion, but her conversations with Okabe in the bedroom felt really forced at times, especially with the "you're my prince" etc. It really seemed like it came outta nowhere and could've just been left out.

Aside from that it was a good episode: I figured Faris had done something to bring her daddy back, but I didn't expect something as drastic as a straight up resurrection. I'm glad she made the choice to save Mayuri in the end, even though I would've understood if she didn't.

The mind suspected this, but again the body and the heart couldn't be ready :_;

How did Faris remember the events on the other world line? I also think the impact from this episode would be better had she been granted more screentime.

What about Moeka's DMail? She probably told her past self or SERN that the IBN 5100 was at the shrine or something.

Behind that facade of a mad scientist lies a soft heart that is very caring and devoted to those who are close, but it is also one that possesses a very admirable amount of strength and resolve.Countless times will he put himself through Hell and back in order to find salvation for those dearest to him. The average person may already have gone insane at this point, but Okabe remains unwavering. But then again, he's already somewhat crazy to begin with haha.

Everyone has a Reading Steiner to some extent. It's kind of like déjà vu but a bit stronger. Okabe is just special in that he remembers everything clearly. The one weakness to Okabe's power is that he won't remember the events of the new timeline, only those of the previous. For example, when he sent the D-mail to himself to stop Suzuha from leaving, he could only remember the events of that worldline but not the events of the new one where he and the others actually ended up having the party. He had to ask Suzuha about it to confirm that it happened.

Then some other bad thing will happen. Remember, a d-mail is essentially a shot in the dark. It's just too risky.

Hi guys! I'ma asssume people who jump on this discussion have already seen episode 17, so here goes:

I know I'm a bit late to the party (considering this show's already five years old), but I'm on Steins;Gate episode 17 right now. and this wiki article explained Faris's phenomenom as, "her regaining a fragment." How is this possible? How can she even vaguely recall a memory that never existed? The theory is that when a world line splits (via D-mail), Okabe transfers to the overruling world line (the one with the D-mail's intended change), this makes him a special case, as his entire being, his entirety, transfers through world lines, hence his retained memories of other world lines. Feris in not one of those special cases. Essentially, none of the Ferises he meets as he moves through to another world line are the same person. They're all essentially different people. Just as twins do not share memories, Feris adaptions should not be sharing memories as well. So how is she able to recall memories of an alternate Feris?

Well, I could try to discuss about the possible plot hole related to Rumiho's money origin in the initial timeline, but actualy that is easily explainable reasonably. So what I really want to know, since I wasn't aware of MAL, first time I watched this show, is: do anyone else also thinks that Rumiho and Okabe had sex?

Hope someone still come back here after watching it, to remedy my doubts.

Im also curious what happened before okeba actually went to faris. Did she get caught? so can people she the other time line if pushed hard enough? Episode 17 aka Faris' Episode

...and man.. as if the previous episode (aka Suzuha's episode) wasn't painful enough..
...*deep sigh*... please kill me now...

I don't know if I should either or both hate or/and love Okabe for f**king with his friends like that.. messing with their memories and all.. not that he wanted to.. but.. it's his fault ffs.

..and we've got 3 more D-mails to undo... and remove SERN's info on their lab's time machine..
...to SAVE MAYURI!!!!

Let's do this, Kyouma Okabe!!!!

Time leaps so far:

World line shifts so far..

Rewatching for the 4th time.

It seems to me like you're not following the story in the recent episodes at all. When the world line changes from the past, the present follows suit, memories, people, things, the universe, bacteria, geography --- literally everything are affected accordingly. D-mails sent to the past can potentially affect the present and/or the future. Okabe has Reading Steiner, which makes him retain his memories and be aware of the world line changing, that is due to the changes in the past that the D-mail causes.

So it's not that Okabe altered Rumiho's memories. Everything was altered by the world line change... except Okabe's memories and consciousness.

Now we're seeing the main plot of the show - we're going to have to convince/reverse everyone's D-mails to be cancelled. Sacrifices will have to be made. Suzuha lived a whole other life for decades to help with this situation. Feyris had to reverse the saving of her father. Extremely difficult and very honorable the choice she made. I agree with someone previously saying that Moeka's D-mail will be the key. I'm sure we will diverge once that happens. Moeka was a spy, I'm sure she's not going to be able to be convinced. There will be a battle I'm sure. I'm assuming the main plot of this show leads up to saving Mayushii. Pretty good episode.

The only way to go forward is to go back.

Undoing a slew of dmails by breaking every person who sent one, not exactly the solution I was hoping for. Leaving a trail of heartbreak and despair to save Mayuri is not the way this should be going.

I'm positive Mayuri would not approve of this.

Great episode again. No surprise the IBN isn't there, as it only disappeared after Moeka's text, I believe. So next it's the gender changing text, then the phone change text. These are big sacrifices to ask of Feris and Ruka

How convenient that Faris remembers things that happened another dimension.

That's what I'm not liking about this anime. Things just happen without any logical explanation. If it was about magic, ok, I would just accept that things happen for no reason. But this is supposed to be a sci fi. I want an explanation that makes sense.

And Faris remembering an alternate time line JUST ONCE doesn't make any sense. Why didn't she remember what'd happened when they sent other d-mails?
She either has he ability to retain memories from alternate timelines or she doesn't. Retaining memories just from one timeline that was connected to her dad living/dying is too convenient.

Yeah, it's the concept of deja vu being actually remembering moments from other worldlines. Everyone has such ability and Okabe's is the strongest but he completely forgets what happened in the past of the current worldline after change. If Okabe didn't interrogate her she wouldn't have thought of it as real.

So he kinda induced her into remembering?
But she couldn't have remembered something that didn't happen. So maybe he "created" memories by talking to her?

There is only 1 active worldline, no parallels exist. When the worldline changes, everyone's memories are rewritten to fit the new one, but some of it still remains as faint memories. Okabe's "Reading Steiner" keeps his memories intact but at the same time he can't remember what happened in this new worldline, while others live their lifes as normal, but might remember something from different worldline but as I said, it's just as a faint "deja vu". As long as that "previous" worldline was observed, i.e. it was active at some point, it did happen so people are able to remember some minor parts of it, but they still need to be reminded of these events or even told they happened so they actually believe them, otherwise they are no more of dreams or deja vu.

Oooh, I see. Now it makes sense. I was thinking there was an infinite number of timelines and they all kept going even if Okabe's consciousness wasn't there. The way I was thinking, the whole "time travelling" and "changing things" seemed kinda pointless because, on several timelines, Mayuri would still be dead and people's lifes would go on.

But if there is only one timeline, it would make sense that Okabe wants to choose the time line in which Mayuri lives. And the deja vu thing makes sense, this way.

Thank you for helping me understand :D

At 12 I thought it would get interesting - like others mentioned. Well it was ... a little bit.
But the most interesting where from 7 to 11 when they started the D-mails and Okarin got threatened from someone that mailed "i'm watching you".

Last few episodes were less interesting. With Mayushii always needing to die just because the timeline wants it (=fate) - that's stupid. Should be possible to save her with minor changes.

Now Feyres seemed to remember stuff? (I thought only Okarin had that abiliy.)

NOOOO!!! MAYURI WILL GET KILLED ANYWAY!
I was hoping at the very least, even if Suguha failed to obtain an IBN 5100, that Mayuri might be saved. But nope, Mayuri will still get killed, Suguha's sacrifice is all in vain... So in this world line where Suguha died because of an illness, she did got the IBN 5100! But then gave it away?!

How did Faris remember? Does she have the same Reading Steiner ability like Okabe? That's impossible.

This is a hard choice indeed. It's either Faris' father of which she has spent 10 years with or Mayuri. Even though she loved her father dearly, Faris is not selfish and decides to save Mayuri instead, which is a noble thing to do. She has my respect. Did Faris' father died in the 9/11 attacks though? The timing is not exact but close to that attack.

When Faris said deep connection, did Kurisu literally just thought about... ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Welp, Daru's right about her 'wild' imagination!

Well now I kinda ship Okabe X Akiha (Faris) but Okabe X Makise is still the priority!!!

I consider Steins Gate as my all time favorite anime, but a few weeks ago I was thinking about
it. Why do I love it that much? So I started to rewatch it again after 2 years. Well, Im as hooked as I was the first time I saw it, but as I know all the plot twists, I can look at it in a more objective way.

I enyojed the first part of the show and I just rushed episodes 12-16 as if it was the first time I saw them.

But episode 17 is different. Every anime has its plot holes and we consider it a big deal depending on the amount of holes we found. Well, this is the first time I find an episode annoying. It doesnt mean I dont love SG anymore (That wont ever happen) but Im kinda pissed right now. Was it really necessary to the story that Feyris had forgoten the D-mail, just to recover her memories 2 min after? Was it necessary to the plot that Okabe had to be beaten up? How did the butler and the father find them? This episode could have been better without those things imo. Okabe could just have went to Feyris house to talk with her and her father and the rest of the time could have been dedicated to character development, Feyris flashbacks if it was necessary, or just to let the story progress.

Anyway, the second part of the episode is pure gold. I would like to make a review of SG but I dont think I would be able to do justice to it.

If somebody found this first part of the episode necesary I would be pleased to read you, as I found it too much convenient for the story.

This is just getting better and better.

Damn so Feiris revived her father with the D-Mail. I had always thought about what all the D-Mails might be contain but that was definitely something I didn't expect. Must be hard for Feiris to never see her dad again, but at the same time I must say it was selfish of her. Plus this isn't just a innocuous mail she send.

What surprised me the most, the fact that she remembered the things about the second timeline where she and Mayuri worked at the moe cafe. What does that mean? That it's possible everyone could remember what happened before?

I think the D-Mail Ruka and Moeka will be tough to undo them. Let's see what Okabe wants to do.

The moe culture is back.

Kurisu got a new enemy ;)

"Someone came and told me, that she'd purchase the IBN 5100 for a huge amount." She's definitely Moeka. And I guess that ransom is being setup by SERN.

So Faris can retain her memories from other world line. If this works on other person then this is how to convince them to undo the D-mail.

All those D-mails wishes at the price of Mayuri's life. The worst scenario would be, Okabe have to undo his FIRST D-mail.

Also, I just realized that this is the first time when Okabe appeared on different place than the place when he send the D-mail.
