Japan Tourism Organization (JNTO) has made an anime-oriented map for foreign tourists. 'Japan Anime Map' introduces model places of popular anime such as Nishinomiya ("Suzumiya Haruhi"), Nanto ("True Tears"), Ueda ("Summer Wars"), and Washinomiya ("Lucky ☆ Star") as well as sightseeing spots of otaku culture: Akihabara, Nakano Broadway, Ikebukuro Otome Road.

Japan Anime Map on JNTO

The number of foreign tourists to Japan has dropped more than 50% from the year-earlier for three consecutive months since the earthquake. JNTO will distribute 10,000 copies of Japan Anime Map in the US, China and South Korea to promote the tourism in Japan.

They know lots of tourists are there for the anime, and exploit it.

Well done.

You know what will REALLY improve their tourism numbers? A report by the IAEA saying that radiation levels in Japan have fallen to pre-earthquake levels.

It is only a matter of time before they start making these things in Spanish and distributing them in South America considering that quite a bit of the Japanese population have South American blood in them.

Seeing the guide reminded me to finish watching Saikano. Also I don't know why I haven't seen Summer Wars yet. I had heard the name but never really looked into it. I will definitely check it out.

One day I'll make it to Japan, though I don't think I'll be traveling all over to see the anime sites like a hardcore fan.

I'll give a model town a try, I avoid them, since I don't usually watch the anime associated with them, however I can now because I'm watching Hanasaku Iroha.

that'll help alot. Of the two years i took Japanese courses, i sucked at them (dunno how i passed both years with a B), and mostly on kanji. ;w; so yeah, good to know that it's gonna get better for tourism in the future. 日本へ行きたいです。

Actually, you know, going to Japan even for a week is pretty cheap, even with the current recession.
