One Piece may be incredible popular, but that doesen't mean it's a masterpiece, it's actually quite the other way round: it has to be extreamly "mainstream" to get so many readers, so it can't allow itself to try unusual stuff or be more philosophic than Luffy's addiction to his "nakama". It has to keep itself nice and simple, funny and able to entertain the young male audience, so it can't get too complicated. I guess you can call it a matinstream masterpiece and this is... well, I don't htink this is something to be so proud of. I read manga like this too, but the real gems are the hidden and (in comparison) unknown works. That said... I have to admit I really like Fullmetal Alchemist, because it's a typical shounen, but a really nice adventure with a staight forward story that builds up until the "big bang" at the very end. Very nicely done. ^^ It's entertaining, but it's not the best Manga out there. Nice to see it beating Bleach and Naturo. Way to go, Bleach is falling for quite some time, I doubt it'll make a comeback in popularity, but as long as there are enough readers, I guess it'll go on. Oh, and congrats to the Shoujo between there. xD Kimi ni Todoke and Nodame Cantabile. :] Nice to see da Shoujo here and there. Since it's weekly ratings in SJ are not the brightest, NnM depends on Tankobon sales and seeing this increase in sales as a re-assurance. |
