This is a complete classic, I'd give it 10 out of 10 but unfortunately most of the middle episodes weren't up to the quality of the amazing ending. There should have been more story expansion and less comedy episodes, it pulls off serious better. Well that's my two cents.

Even with all the comedy episodes, I loved this series. I just finished watching it for the first time, and this shows me what a good anime can be. Art and direction are amazing. Need some more anime of this caliber.

I loved that he died. That is how you tell a story. It fit so well with everything else... there was never any 'happily ever after' for Spike, even if he had lived. It was sad, but it made the entire series better in my eyes.

Yes, it's true. Any form of happy ending, any suggestion of something like this would spoil whole series. It wasn't happy but it wasn't entirely sad, it was merely... fulfilled.

Wow, what a journey...
Never would I have suspected such emotion and depth of character from an episodic anime. This series truly went out with a "bang"! From the epic climax to the bitter-sweat end and finally the amazing concluding theme song, Cowboy Bebop certainly upholds its reputation as one of the most accomplished and fantastic anime series.

9/10

Now that was incredible, the way they orchestrated his final moments was just pure artistic genius, even though Spike died this ending is possibly one of the best I have ever seen this is definitely going to have a permanent spot in my top 5.

Why does everyone think Faye liked Spike? I thought she just grew an attachment to the crew as a whole and didn't want any of them to leave because she knew Spike was going to die.

Anyways, the ending was almost near perfect, I just thought the fight between Spike and Vicious should've been a little longer.

This was always an eight for me until that last, amazing couple of episodes. Definitely a 9, which is the highest I give.

I am genuinely upset that Spike died, but that made for the best ending. That was one hell of a showdown.

And he literally went out with a 'bang'.

Your search on "Oran Solus" returned the following quotes:
"Oran Solus? I know him. What a wanker. He still owes me a tenner." Oscar Wilde
"Oran, you're so intelligent and awesome <3" Bakayaro
"Oran's sexy." LolitaDecay
"Oran is a sophisticated penguin." Drybananna
"Oran is a Hand-Eye you faggots." EddieSpaghetti
"Oran for Prime Minister." the_prime_one
"Oran is all that is stated in his sig and more." orbitzz

What a way to go for a absolutely fabulous anime!
Just dug the part where Spike blasted everyone in sight to the tune of "The Real Folk Blues," which led up to the final, inevitable confrontational scene (and credit Yoko Kanno for all his music-I already have one CD -Cowboy Bebop Blue-and I intend to get another in the same series).
Would have like for both Julia and Spike to have survived, still it would have not been true to the spirit of the series...come to think of it, it would have been phony.
But I will miss Spike something terrible! He was one cool dude! And I really hated watching him die after surviving everything else that was done to him in the past twenty-five sessions! I almost thought that he was too cool to die, but obviously I was wrong.
From what (little) I understand, this anime was made in 1998 (that long ago?!) and lasted for only 26 episodes...even though there is a DVD movie out, that's it.
And of course we'll never know what will happen to Jet, Faye, Ed and even Ein the dog (I really did like toward the end Faye was trying to reclaim her past and in the process she changed-but found out that the present is all there is. And I liked it when she tried to stop Spike from leaving-finally, a heart after all).
So now my Saturday nights are going to be a bit longer...wonder what Adult Swim will put in its place? I'd like to think that I'm wrong, but I doubt if it would be of the same caliber. I truly enjoyed all the episodes, even the very few that I thought were weren't that great. What a wonderful mixture of comedy and action drama.
I'm giving it a 9.
Spike, I'll miss you and there ain't no way you'll be resurrected (unlike another certain anime character we all know and love)!
Now I'm singing the real folk blues!
WAAAAAAAAH!

Absolutely breathtaking. The scene with Faye and Spike's final confrontation destroyed my emotional core the rest of the day because there was no doubt Spike was going to end himself.

This is just my opinion, so feel free to disagree with me, but I think that they never truly wanted to make it clear weather Spike died or not. I think that they leave that up to you, for you to pick weather he lives or dies depending on which would be a better ending for you.

Like I said, just my opinion.

But Ill tell you what's NOT opinion. That was one of if not the best endings to an anime ever. If someone only saw ep 26 of Cowboy Bebop without having seen the first 25 eps, they would think that they were incredibly deep episodes all building up to that grand finale. They would never guess that only a few of the episodes where plot related, and that most of them were just the Bebop crew going around trying to catch bounties.

That is why Cowboy Bebop is such a brilliant anime in my opinion.

As much as I HATED that Spike died, I don't think it would've been right if it had ended any other way. The ending really made the series, I think. It was my favorite series hands down, anyway, but the ending really set it over the top. I was so sad when I saw it, and I still have a bit of trouble watching it now. lol.

I always wondered what happened to Faye, though? I always felt so bad for her in the end. She lost almost everything (and she STILL owed a bunch of money in debt). I can't imagine that she stayed on the Bebop with Jet.

1] You see him fall down, having suffered a range of fatal injuries and the camera zooms away from his prone body.
2] You listen intently to the lyrics of the last end credits song.
3] You see a star fade out to nothingness.
4] You realise its not an opinion that Spike is dead but a fact.

Just face it people, he had nothing to live for after Julia's death, he sacrificed his life and his friendships with the Bebop crew, to take down Viscious.

Finally a great ending, I didn't like this show but I have to say that this ending is really breathtaking.
The final ending theme was excellent and feet very well with Spyke's story.
The fight scenes were also excellent especially the scene where they exchange their weapon.

yeah, like everyone else i think it had a perfect ending. didn't care much for the random missions and was wondering why everyone loved this so much but the last 2 episodes totally made me believe that Cowboy Bebop was the real deal. From the tiger story with the last meal, to the fortune teller, to the one eye revelation, to faye's crying, and the "Bang" at the end were all so masterminded that it became a work of art. That was such a fantastic buildup that I wish every director/writer learned from this. He knew how to set it up. So much drama, emotions, and great dialogue really makes this series a classic.

Breathtaking. I put off watching Bebop for so long and I didn't know what the fuss was about when it first came out. But as I watched the final moments of #26 ("Bang!") I found myself tearing up.

This show just has a way of getting to you.

I kinda disagree with those comments about how there were these random missions before the climatic last episodes. The way I see it, every episode worked in a subtle way to establish the story of Spike's past, even if only metaphorically. Remember "Toys in the Attic" and Spike's lesson for us in it? "Never leave things in the fridge"... because they basically eventually come back and haunt/kill you. Isn't that just what Spike's past did to him in the very end? For the longest time he put his past on hold but when he was finally forced to confront his ties to the syndicate, it costs him his life. Sad, but brilliant.

one of the most beautiful animes ever made, and the last episode just topped it all off.
i loved the fact that Jet used to always tell Spike stories, and in the last episode Spike told Jet one instead. It made me so sad, when i realised that the cats he was talking about were him and Julia.
...and then the tabby met a beautiful white cat, and lived with her until she died. Then, finally, the tabby died too.

I know I'll get criticized for this, but I still feel like something is missing.

The ending was very explosive and emotional, and I loved every second of it, but it feels like they did everything in the shortest amount of time possible. By the end of the episode, I really had to think hard about all the stuff that just happened. It's a lot to take in. Not that that's a bad thing, but maybe they went a little too fast. They could have definitely made the Spike and Vicious fight a bit longer.

Anyway, I wanted more backstory. I'm curious to see how Jet and Spike first met, and all the dirt on the syndicate with Vicious and Spike fighting side by side. Basically, they told us a lot with this ending, but didn't explain much, and that bugs me.

Lastly, I would have preferred more closure. Like some people have mentioned in this thread, what happens to Faye? Maybe a final discussion with Jet and Faye would have been cool. And I really liked Ed and wanted to see both Ed and Ein in the finale, even if it was just for a minute to show them with Ed's dad.

But it's all just nitpicking. This two-part ending had me at the edge of my seat, and I loved it. For the anime as a whole, it was...hmm, interesting. It's the exception for episodic plots (for people who don't like them) and there were some very strong episodes in the bunch. But there were some noticeably weak ones too. The characters were top notch and I loved each one of them. For the whole thing, I'd say 8.6/10

Uh, isnt the Hollywood ending: happily ever after?

Why would Spike go with Faye and Jet? How would that make any sense at all? The dude's woman, his entire reason for existing, just got killed by his nemesis. He's not gonna act like nothing happened.

well by hollywood i meant the good guy usually trys to kill the bad guy. it would be non hollywood if he decided to stay with his friends in the bebop. julia had a chance to go with spike but she decided not to 3 years ago. she was killed, annie was killed, he should of just went with his real friends on the bebop let the pass be the pass as jet was saying

But if he did go back to the Bebop, he would just be running away form his past again, which would mean everything else would be pretty much pointless.

I agree on the Hollywood part of having the good guy always try to kill the bad guy, usually making it overdone.

I have been told time and time again by the older anime watchers to get around to seeing this entire series. I was a bit worried that such a classic wouldn't have an effect on me simply because it wasn't in any kind of genre I normally enjoy. I can safely say now that I they were incredibly right and that I should've gotten around to seeing it sooner.

The entire show was just amazing. Not too long, not too short, plenty of character building to the point where you are emotionally attached to each one... I honestly don't have a single thing to complain about, and to have that affect on me deserves a 10/10 from me.

Breath-taking, original, and strong, Cowboy Bebop is a must watch, no matter what your tastes are or how old it gets. More than 10 years later and its still able to blow your mind. It certainly went out with a "Bang."
