We already have the "One Shot of the Week" topic, but since it's a bit general and non-descriptive, I started this one.

Focus-

Recommend manga you would like to see as one shots of the week.

I'll try to bring in the first recommendation:

Town of Evening Calm, Country of Cherry Blossoms

is a manga that you may consider feature as One Shot of the Week, in two short stories it gives a glance at the life of a family affected by the Hiroshima Bomb.

What I really like is that despite the historical background, the author manages to give the reader a lighthearted experience with only 100 pages. She hardly gets accusing and also doesn't downplay the incident.

She also jumps several times between present and past and it may be hard to tell who is who, but the whole family background gets revealed at the end of the second story.

I think its definetly worth to take a few minutes and check it out.

Good recommendation; that's a popular, famous manga we haven't featured yet.

I'll try to post that one up next week.

I assumed it was josei because it follows an adult woman, and doesn't seem to be clearly marked with either genre.

Either week is fine, but out of curiosity, SixFlags or anyone else who has read it, which one is it?

By instinct I'd say its josei too, but its somehow understandable why MAL doesn't list it in one of these age genres.

really? i thought the art style was a dead give-away to seinen. either way, it's definitely a seinen. the mangaka's works are all mainly seinen, and they're published in a seinen/shounen mag. bakaupdates usually has correct demographic labels.

Hm you're right, "Weekly Manga Action" doesn't look like an josei magazine at all

Yeah, you were right; definitely seinen. I should have checked Mangaupdates for the correct designation; I seem to periodically forget about that site.

So anyone have recommendations for this shoujo/josei week? I have something in mind, but would rather see what others want.

I don't read much shojo/josei one shots but one that really stood out to me was Moto Hagio's josei Slow Down.

oh wow, another oneshot by moto hagio. Her stuff is always good. Thanks for the rec :) We've spotlighted two of her other oneshots before so i'm sure this one will be just as good.

Yeah, good recommendation; Hanshin was one of the better one-shots I've read, and I'm sure that in over 3 decades of writing, the author managed two or three other good one-shots here and there.

Definitely worth exploring her catalog further.

Kinda like a bag of jelly beans. Some flavors would probably be not to your liking, but as a whole, you can't complain about lack of variety.

Heh, this was actually the fifth one-shot of the week this club featured;

http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=50734&show=0

This was even before I joined though, so we might spotlight it again if I can't find anything else.

A science fiction one-shot? That's quite rare; will give it a shot.
