THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Well, nothing here yet? I just recently started watching and I really enjoyed the first episode of this. Fast pacing at the beginning is always a plus for me, and I also liked it that they skipped one year (Although I would like to know what exactly happened during this year). Overall the first episode seems quite promising, I wonder how it will turn out :)
I probably regret this post by now.

... huh...

I am both fascinated and confused right now. They sort of just dropped us in the world without explaining anything. That might be a good thing since it's completely non-patronizing, maybe. I kind of think that I really like this, but I'm not too sure. I can say for sure that I dig the artwork though. And the music. All right, now for episode 2, I feel bad for all those suckers who had to wait a week when it came out!

Just a slight warning:
It doesn't get better, it doesn't change, it only gets more frustrating. I don't want to influence your opinion, but I barely made it to episode 17 and looking back it's one of the worst anime experiences ever :p.
Looking forward to find out how you like this long term ^^
I probably regret this post by now.

I'm at episode 6 right now and I love the crud out of it. I'm not even confused at this point, so I presume the confusing stuff comes later?

I'm gonna give this a go - I like the design so far and the music is outstanding - brooding cello pieces all over the place and I particularly liked the pretty much certainly very influenced by Blade Runner's ending theme synth piece that comes in during the escape sequence - massive polysnyth arpeggios - great stuff!

Woah it has caught my interest.
Do all of those mecha beings have will on their own? Seems to be the case.
Also i know those awesome OP and ED songs already but how is that possible? This is 1st I watch this anime...

Not being mentally challenged might help people comprehend the plot.
The legal age of consent in Japan is 13, so shota is totally legal in Japan. In some western countries shota might be considered child porn.

I'm not sure if this applies only to the dub, but the dialogue left much to be desired. On a positive note, it has a nice opening song.

Yeah that's pretty much the way Tomino does things. He's more of a "show, don't tell" guy, everything happening through action and short dialogues. He almost never does those infodumps that describe the setting or some elements, and even when a character does do that, it's really short.

The first episode seems interesting, and good to see similar staff and VAs like Turn A Gundam. Most people hate Hime/Sochie's VA, but she's one of the reasons why I really wanted to watch Brain Powerd, she barely had work. Some parts of BP are similar to Ideon, so that's already gotten me hooked.

Well i really enjoyed this first episode, hoping that this is one of those show that i end up loving even thought the majority hate it.

I have read that Tomino was feeling depressed and without focus during the years he made the show. Fortunately he recovered and made Turn a gundam after this, because even this 3rd time that I have tried to see this show, I couldnt pass the first episodes.

Brain Powerd can obviously serve as a good pleb filter. Basically, anyone who buys into the 'worst ever' meme shouldn't be trusted.

I was not ready to see this quantity of visible tits when the opening started. I knew this is a WOWOW production but... did someone tell Tomino he could do ANYTHING so he decided to test possible boundaries?

So ! A Tomino start as expected, with the surprise of a one-year ellipse. I'm all for early uses of this kind of technique but here, it comes off weirdly. Apart from this bad move and Hime's jarring reactionto the Brain Powerd, you get just enough elements, explained and unexplained, for the series to be alluringly mysterious (usually, Tomino gives away far more in the beginning).
Chara-designs are fine (and don't seem too typical of the 90s) but drawings are rather bad at times. The "robots" skeletal look is fine to me. What is not is the music association with scenes: although most tracks are not bad in themselves, they often sound like they have no business being on the scene they are associated with.

I didn't know I wanted more of a certain seiyû before I heard her here, nice surprise.

Nice ending.

3.5/5

@CodeBlazeFate This is the terrible Tomino work everyone and their grandmother talked about? I can't imagine it being worse than Ideon or more infuriating than Zeta.

It’s conceptionally laughable and ranges from boring to “LMAO WTF IS THIS”.

Well that's one hell of an opening.

This episode was a classic Tomino start: in medias res. I guess in the next episode we'll understand what is actually going on. I guess we'll also find out why this anime is hated so much.

i am sooo confused. maybe it's because i'm feeling sleepy right now, but they threw all those words at me and i don't know what any of that means. also not a fan of sentient mechs, but let's see.

it's incredible.
there's no explanation to why any of the scenes are occurring.
the characters either ask confusing questions that seem unrelated to what's going on, or talk nonsense out of their asses.
