AH...the school trip, covering Chapters 76 & 77.

Tohru and the rest with Kyo and Yuki, like the Happy Three Friends and the cursed Soma duo. With all that's happened within the Soma household, the school trip is a good getaway. Shigure is SOOOO gung-ho about it though.

Uotani couldn't forget about the Soma Kureno, and the Yuki Fan Club is as always up to no good. But the romance aspect being a biggie when it always comes to school trips like this.

Kyo getting called aside for a confession sure is funny though, and adding the close friends along for more hilarious shenangians, that was a chuckle. Kyo being a cat, and another animal cat conversing, wooo....haha even it it sensed jealousy. The benefit of the doubt though, Tohru spends more time with him, being reassured of his presence.

Including the Student Council though, Yuki is like a joker to them lols, especially the vice president. For him to realize that Yuki has taken a liking to Tohru, his fire burns deep for her if she gets in harm's way, truly spoken like a childish way that burns his childish psychology, adding the hilarious secretary along for a two-fer comedy gag.

To Yuki though, all he needs are good memories, and memories like this do help recuperate the trauma of being a Soma, much less the support from Tohru all this time.

To think that Tohru has added the cat on top of the 12 zodiac animals that she got for the occasional souvenir, that truly says a lot referencing to Kyo himself being a part of the zodiac in Tohru's heart.

Another blessing of an episode that's going to be more relevant as we go on.

It was nice seeing more of Tohru x Kyo moments in this episode.

A confession for Kyo which he rejected, kinda in a harsh way if you ask me.

The jealousy of the cat that was talking to Kyo was something I wasn't expecting.

As always, another great episode.

This week's episode a breather after the last couple being super heavy. Some mildly somber times while on this school trip but for the most part just the characters having a nice time away from their hardships. Sort of split up the episode with Tohru focused in the first half. Her moments with Kyo are always so sweet I warms my heart. After she learned he's going to be confined soon there is an added layer of tragedy yet the two of them together is still a shining beacon of joy in this story. Tohru and Kyo always on each other's minds these days, one can say just a few words to the other and they go swirling. It's so sweet, the moment with them going off together after Tohru got worried from Kyo saying it's none of her business. The distance he's trying to create hurts her but we can also see how much Kyo cares about Tohru.

Yuki got the latter half of this episode, mostly with Kakeru following. That dude is something! So incessant about Yuki being friends with him. Yuki kinda had to give him the business when Kakeru was joking about liking Tohru. There's a deeper connection between him and Tohru, that was kinda teased this episode, which we'll see later on but for now Kakeru is asking son interesting questions to Yuki. Who in turn after learning Kakeru has a girlfriend respects him for being so confident in his feelings, just like he did with Rin a few episodes back. Yuki vowing to make memories he can look back on fondly was so sweet. Just like the scenes to end the episode with him giving Machi the leaf and Kyo seeing the zodiac figures Tohru made.

Another great episode. We see Tohru finally start to notice herself a bit more as well as her true feelings more towards Kyo. Also, Yuki shows us that there might be some deeper story between Kyo and Tohru’s mother. All in all one of the best episodes this season imo.

Great episode!
A good light-hearted episode before next week's episode.
School trip episode, good to see that they kept the cat flirting Kyo, always hilarious.
Tohru's seems to be thinking a lot about Kyo.
The first half was a lot of Kyo x Tohru.
That transition of Yuki getting the leaf and giving it to machi was beautifully done.

Other boys in class are so lively! I wish they get more role, focusing on zodiac for a long time drained my power.

Yun-yun get a messy bedroom so I suspect he's lazy or unorganized. Now I know he's also very hard to wake-up (more like everyone knows now)

I wish Tohru would stay out of zodiac business for real so that zodiac will suffer alone in the dark. But she get to live for free in a house so that'd be her compensation for sticking her nose in zodiac business.

And the cat voice is maybe Tohru????

Yay! I was really looking forward to this episode, and it did not disappoint. I find that while I always look forward to every episode, I get really excited for the ones that are a little lighter, espresso like this one, where there had been some pretty heavy stuff before

I loved the Kyo and Tohru moments. She’s starting to understand a bit more of her feelings for him. Then Yuki giving Machi the leaf was really well done.

The comedy of this episode was all great. I love the cat, and the friends spying on Kyo’s confession moment. Yuki getting on to Kyo and Hana agreeing with Yuki and giving him a dango is always funny to me. Yuki’s interactions with the student council are always good.

pretty chill episode, really liked the figurines tohru was working on and that leaf scene, hoping to learn more about machi sooner rather than later, and it would also be cool if kakeru's girlfriend will make an appearance at some point.

This episode was wholesome to it's core! It was full with lovely character interactions within Tohru's group but especially Kyo x Tohru, but also the student council was for once pleasant to watch, was some really nice interactions for Yuki!

But man, was this episode gorgeous! The locations of Kyoto were pretty damn amazing! Seeing the Kiyomizu-dera here made my regret not seeing it last year even greater! I gotta find out the other locations as well!

Here we have chapters 76-77, the Kyouto school trip.
At 08:25 after Yuki hits Kyou, he actually says "You destructive idiot!".

So, with this episode I think it should be obvious who Tooru likes. ;) Also in the rooftop scene at the end of the previous episode it should have been obvious, but now it's double obvious. ;)

I'm sad they left out the part where Hanajima says to Tooru that she saw her somewhere with Kakeru in the past, but Tooru can't remember, neither can Hanajima. And Kakeru says to Yuki he's interested in Tooru but not in a romantic way and he'll tell him about it some other time.

If they needed to left out something, they could have that scene when that cat "talks" to Kyou and when Uotani tries to "feed" Kyou etc.

Well, at least this time we see how bad Yuki is with getting up in the morning. They left it out in Season 1 when Uotani and Hanajima came to Shigure's house to check if it is a good environment for Tooru. I was sad they left it out. It's a really funny scene. It's in chapter 7 towards the end, if anyone wants to check it.

I liked the transition of Yuki getting the leaf and giving it to Machi as present.
And at the end of episode Tooru "perfecting" the zodiac animals set by making a cat. <3

Next episode we finally get a backstory of
They better make it 1,5 episodes because it's 3 chapters in the manga. Can't wait for it, I love that "mini arc".

This episode adapts Chapters 76 and 77 from the manga covering Tohru's class trip to Kyoto. There were a fair number of scenes shortened or changed in some elements between the anime and manga for this episode, particularly in what was adapted of Chapter 77's events. Here were what I noticed of changes in this episode:

-Before Tohru realized she forgot about the school trip, she was shown with a more dumbstruck expression in the manga. In the same scene, there is a removed line from Shigure where he commented that most people wouldn’t forget about something important like a school trip.
-When Shigure had told Tohru to enjoy the school trip, he had patted her on the head in the manga afterward.
-When Yuki told Tohru it was doubtful Kyo would accept any love confession, there were close shots shown of Yuki and Tohru shown afterward that were removed from the anime.
-A small part of the confession scene with Kyo and a female classmate got removed for the anime.
-When the two male classmates were shown aghast at Kyo’s lack of interest in love, they had a few more lines they spoke in the manga.
-There were some differences in the scene following the confession:

  • The two male classmates following Tohru and her friends while yelling they want girlfriends was added for the anime.
  • The anime removed mention that Arisa was scolded by Mayu for getting confrontational with the female classmate she interacted with.
  • The captions shown when Yuki strikes Kyo’s head were added for the anime.
  • A small bit of the scene at the end was removed showing Arisa joining in on annoying Kyo and the Sohma telling her to shut up.

-After realizing she was separated from her classmates, there is a small bit in the manga showing Tohru wondering if Yuki and Kyo will be okay after noticing a large crowd.
-While talking with Kyo in the manga, Tohru is unaware that she drops her wallet and later panics when she realizes she dropped it.
-At the end of Chapter 76’s adapted events, there is a removed scene showing some teachers concerned over hearing that male and female students are sleeping together. Mayuko gets word of this and follows the teachers into the female students’ room, only to see that Tohru and her friends have turned in early for sleep.
-Some bits of the scene where male students were trying to wake Yuki up were depicted in “stick figure” drawing style in the manga at the point where a half-awake Yuki starts moving around and hits his head on a wall.
-The scene at the shrine with the deer had some differences:

  • More deer are shown at the shrine in the manga.
  • There is a scene removed from the anime where Saki comments that she has a feeling that she seen Kakeru somewhere before with Tohru. Hearing this leads Tohru to become shocked with Yuki trying to calm her down and Arisa becoming annoyed with Saki creating a misunderstanding.
  • Small bits of the scene were rearranged in their order in the anime that included another deer coming up from food, the group wondering where they’d be going next, and a couple students informing everyone they were going by bus to their next destination.

-Yuki and Kakeru remained near the souvenir shop in the manga when they have their conversation regarding the latter’s interest in Tohru.
-A small caption mentioning porn is for anyone 18 or older was added in the anime when Kakeru jokingly says to Kimi that Yuki won’t be his friend unless he shows Yuki his porn collection.
-A small part of Kakeru’s conversation with Yuki and Kimi was removed from the anime where he mentions he will reveal his reasons for his interest in Tohru to Yuki at a later time.

loved so much this episode, I think this was the funniest so far (at least for me)

I'm even more interested in how Yuki sees Kyo, perhaps he knows of all the harm he did to Tohru (especially the physical one at the end of S1), and so he can't forgive him? or is it just because he's the cat?
Also, as the Kyo-Tohru couple grows more obvious, is it possible that Machi is the one to end up with Yuki? who knows...
just my interpretations hehe

Man Kyo went straight savage with that rejection "Why would you even DREAM of dating someone like me?" Basically like hey 'you're way out your your league, missy'. She was being pretty pushy but still LOL

Also, it'd be cool if MAL if went more than like 12 hours without going down.

Cute moment of Kyo gently grabbing Tohru's hand <3 I also loved seeing his reaction when Tohru finnished her clay at the end X3

Great episode as always! I can't wait to watch the next episode :D

Dude this was probably one of the wholesome and heartwarming ep that i ever watch!

Some scenes were so hilarious af xD

Also no stupid force romance like from other animes between honda's group just pure friendship between them. Author is great for letting the group as friends and giving them another love interest not within the group which i found pretty unique.

Wait, did I see actual Tohru x Kyou "romantic" development with Tohru's inner monologue about him making her feel uneasy or happy with a single comment? Please, tell me I'm not just overthinking scenes here D:

And man... that final scene. Tohru bought some clay to make a cat figure for Kyou since the cat wasn't included in the zodiac animals set she got. That's so damn sweet ;_;

Overall, another pretty good episode. The change of focus from Kyou to Yuki and Kakeru felt kinda abrupt if I'm honest but other than that, it all was really lovely. The transition with Yuki getting the leaf and giving it to Machi was so well done, by the way.

As for the comedy, it was surprisingly good this week. The cat getting jealous at Kyou was quite random but Arisa pretending to feed him was particularly hilarious xD

Another great episode! I will say though that the localization of the "haiku" took me out of the experience, sticking out like a sore thumb. I hate when subs do this sort of thing. Not only is it obvious that it doesn't line up with the spoken language line, but it also treats the audience as being unable to understand history and context outside of their own or unwilling to do so. This wasn't even one of those untranslatable jokes. It is easier for dubs to get away with this sort of stunt, but at the very least dubs cannot be immediately called out for being misleading.

For a wholesome episode, this one is really satisfying. =)

It felt really fun and relaxing to see the usual antics from Tohru and the others during their trip to Kyoto. The background art in particular was excellent all throughout the episode, so good job to the staff for capturing the feel of Kyoto beautifully.

The way Kyo rejected that female student was on the harsh side, but his answer was understandable. He didn't know who she is, so he did the right thing to turn her down. However, it did leave him a bit irritated later on, which earnt him a chop on the head by Yuki and even an amusing moment when a cat swiped him, upset that he was more in Tohru than the female cat herself. XD

Either way, it led to another cute moment with Kyo and Tohru simply hanging out, which always makes me happy. ^_^

As for Yuki, aside from amusingly waking up and acting like a zombie, his time hanging out with Kakeru was really enjoyable. Both of them have a good chemistry together with their bantering and it shows how much their friendship has grown over a short amount of time. The leaf transition scene from Kyoto to the student council room where Yuki gave a lovely leaf to Machi was perfect. Kudos to the staff for nailing this part.

This is one of my favorite episodes too. It was too much for my heart. Last week's episode broke my heart and this one healed it. There were funny moment with Arisa and the gang creeping up on Kyo while Girl A confessed her feelings and was super pissed that she got rejected.

That moment with Nabe acting like a kid and pouting since Yuki threatened to stop being friends with him if he ever toyed with Tohru's feelings. That white cat NYAN NYAN NYANing was hilarious. She could star in her own soap opera.

That moment with Machi looking so pretty while she looked at Yuki's simple souvenir that he gave her.

Also, the best part, Tohru making the zodiacs with clay and her making one of Kyo.

All these moments either touched my heart or made me laugh.

Tohru and Hanajima are the haiku masters of the century.

I got to say I loved Hanajima's extra moments this episode. Especially when she rewarded Yuki with a dango.

The Kyoru moments this episode were sweet. Tohru is such a sweetheart. I love how she included the cat in her zodiac figurine collection. That made Kyou happy.

Yuki and Kakeru's moments were hilarious. Kakeru knows how to make Yuki flustered. Kimi coming in the middle of their little friendly fight made it more hilarious.

My favorite moment of the episode was when Yuki gave Machi the leaf. It was so beautifully done.

I find myself liking Yuki less and less as this show progresses, not least because screentime for him now also means screentime for the awful Student Council. Not a bad episode otherwise, but this show is still not funny.

That last scene with Tohru having made a cat figure to go with the rest of the Zodiac figures and Kyo's blush about it was precious, and long may this pairing continue to develop.

It seems that Tohru is in love with Kyo, yet, understandably, she doesn't realize it one bit. The way he makes her feel constantly changing emotions isn't because he is "mysterious" per se. It is just that she has romantic feelings for him. In time, she will figure it out by herself, most likely amidst the struggles of Kyo's impending future of getting locked up forever.

Yuki, in particular, is serving as an unwilling wingman. Rather than run away like he always did, he resignedly accepted his feelings and decided to cheer on for Kyo and Tohru, in his way, of course. That would explain the brief thought he had regarding not forgiving anyone who would harm Tohru in any shape or form. He is reluctantly cheering for Kyo, his rival, to try and overcome the sad future laid on him by Akito.

A lighthearted episode after the last few heavy ones. And it was quite a funny one this time.

The Kyoto scenery just looks beautiful.

Kyo's rejection of that girl's confession was just too mean to be honest, although what happened afterwards was hilarious. Always love Saki's deadpan commentary. And her giving a dango to Yuki for his calling Kyo a complete idiot was funny too lol

Didn't expect to see subtitles for cats meowing in Fruits Basket. That was so surprising yet hilarious!

The first half was really Kyo x Tohru. I don't know the manga or anything, but from the looks of it it's currently leaning Kyo x Tohru, especially with how Tohru herself said how just one remark can completely change Tohru's mood. Also really love how comfortable Kyo is with Tohru now, just casually grabbing her hand like that!

The second Yuki-focused part was quite nice too. It seems like Yuki wasn't even bothered if Kakeru liked Tohru. But his response if Tohru got hurt would be terrifying.

I really like Kimi and how flirty she can get and constantly using her sex appeal to get her way. Generally I just really like her personality! I just find her really cute and attractive. Also love how she was all cute and lovey-dovey towards Yuki but so blunt and cruel towards Kakeru lol also liked those two's banter with the "...to omoimasu."

That scene transitioning from that falling maple leaf to Yuki giving it to Machi was really beautiful and well-done. The visuals there wowed me. The whole composition seemed really beautiful. Although I wonder what that final shot of Machi holding the leaf up means.

Big Kyo and Tohru moment. I almost feel like a middle schooler reading this manga for the first time again. So nostalgic and heartwarming.

"Resolve... and cunning..." That scene with Yuki against the gorgeous music genuinely made me teary-eyed.

Also, can't get enough of the OP and ED of this half of the season--keep listening to them on repeat on Spotify.

Damn, this Fruits Basket remake really keeps me going.
