| Some ecchi anime have very light fanservice (ex. Gakusen Toshi Asterisk, Musaigen no Phantom World); some have very heavy fanservice (ex. Highschool of the Dead, To Love-Ru: Darkness). There are different kinds of shows to satisfy different tastes. aniDB has scales that show how much fanservice, comedy, drama, etc is in a show. You can look up titles there if you want to check if they're heavy on fanservice. Personally, I've never been offended by fanservice or manservice, or thought that a show had too much of it. So I eventually decided to try reading them myself last year... but seriously 19 volumes later (which is about a million words) and it still never got any better at all if you ask me. | First of all, DxD franchise did pretty awesome for ecchi anime. Fan-service will never be too much in ecchi anime, but it is kind of boring when it comes out of nowhere. Such as no plot involved pantsu shot from the wind. |

| Honestly, for me it totally depends on two things: 1) The "type" of ecchi. I absolutely hate cringe-like moments like when someone "accidentally" grabs someones boobs or stuff like that. This is the absolute worst. However, I don't care about the occasional "panty-shot" (As long as there aren't too many. And as long as they aren't exaggerated. Kill la Kill, for example, was way too much ecchi for me.) 2) The "type" of the story. If it is a rather comedic anime, I won't mind the occasional "panty-shot" or whatever. If it's a super serious and mature action anime however, then even that could be too much. My 50cents. No offense to anyone. |

| If ecchi gets in the way of an actual plot to the point of overshadowing it, then there is probably too much (haven't watched it, but I believe some watchers of Highschool of the Dead will somewhat agree with this sentiment). Of course, if the show in question is more or less all about the ecchi, then the more the better. If you go out of your way to watch a show like that in the first place, the whole "too much" thing becomes pretty invalid. Of course you have the extreme shit like Eiken that probably arouses nobody, but I guess it's up to your personal taste at that point. tl;dr It's all depends on the context, like most things. |
| Meh, too much ecchi means the ecchi shouldn't appear on that particular anime right? The limit depends on the anime it self. You don't care that much in to love ru/DxD since it's the goal of the show, as long as there is no morality issues. Code Geass surprised me the first time with several nude scene and a furtive masturbation scene, but it's still occasional enough to call it bonus IMO. Few anime cross the limit in my opinion: Yosuga no sora, which is too close to be a hentai. HotD, because you shouldn't be aroused in a zombie show. Fear and libido are opposite that shouldn't ever meet. |

I mostly go by this rule for Sol shows; because they are the most redundant to binge watch. You don't simply watch more than one episode of a Sol a day. | I don't necessarily agree with all the DXD criticisms....BUT, I do agree that Issei is NOT a good Harem MC... So, he's the opposite of a generic, weak, and dense MC. But his over-the-top perverted self is not admirable. As with most Harems though, the main focus is the girls and DXD has a pretty good collection of girls. I thought season 1 was decent/good....not sure about season 2....season 3 was bad. Rias is good waifu material tho... |
