| I am a heterosexual male. I don't mind seeing bishounen in anime. They're not my favorite type of looks, but they work fine, as long as he's as beautiful on the inside. Evil bastards with good looks are even worse than ordinary evil bastards. I like it when the male main character is attractive rather than generic - makes it easier to understand why he gets attention of so many girls (and in the anime I watch, they do get it). I like cute boys in anime. For example MC from DanMachi, or Honey from Ouran Host Club. I'm not sure how "slutty" should look when done by a male. If it's like Hysteria Mode from Hidan no Aria, I can understand the MC's feelings (of treating it like a Dangerous Forbidden Technique). |

As a straight guy with probably 4.3% gay levels I tend to be more drawn toward attractive male characters. Too many ugly people in real life, I rather watch an attractive male doing something then a guy who is completely beat. There is too much of male MC's getting shafted anyways. Whether they don't get the recognition they deserve because their too humble or it being the whole wrong place wrong time thing. I HATE IT. | As a woman, I pay little attention to the female characters in anime. I usually avoid anime with a cast mainly consisting of female characters because of how oversexualized and transparant they often are, it is embarassing and inspires an uncomfortable feeling. I usually avoid entertainment by women everywhere, actually; I do not listen to female singers, I do not choose female characters in videogames, female actresses do not interest me. It is not because I am anti-women (I am one myself, after all), but it just doesn't capture me. I cannot stand the cute and squealy types — these girls are unrealistic and unattractive, they are casually represented as being weak and unintelligent, so there is nothing there that can even hold my attention for longer than two seconds. I have never actually seen girls or women behave like that. The whole sexy type, I care even less about. They are usually just there for fanservice and have little to nothing to add to a potential storyline and plot. This is why I am more and more inclined towards the shounen-genre. Something that's targeted at young boys usually doesn't include that many sexual references (but are still there ocassionaly, because this is Japan we're speaking of). I also prefer action and plot over nonsensical series without any depth, so this is a win-win situation for me. |

| I'm a woman who is very much attracted to women, but I don't think I've ever been attracted to an anime girl. They're usually drawn to look really young (not just the lolis), and it's obvious that the fan service is made for straight guys (which is fine, but it doesn't work on me). I typically avoid anime with a bunch of fan service though, so it's no big deal. |

| As a male I don't have a problem with handomse male characters at all as long as they have interesting personalities and stuff. Which does seem to be more likely in a reverse harem cast than an actual harem cast in my experience. The reverse 'harem members' of shows like Saiunkoku Monogatari or Akatsuki no Yona are all sexy and handsome but also very interesting and likable characters with complex motivations that I can take seriously as a person. While most harem heroines are just cumdumpsters with no personality beyond being thirsty for no reason. That sounds a bit harsher than it is but I believe the general principle to be true. Of course there are also examples of the opposite (when the reverse harem is based on an otome game like Diabolik Lovers or Amnesia it is gonna have dogshit characters, and a harem like Monogatari has awesome and very interesting and fun to watch females once in a while) but I'm just talking about my experience statistically here. In general I have to say that even tho I'm a guy male-targeted fanservice characters (characters with no personality or role to play aside from being meat to look at basically) bothers me more than the female-targeted type because I feel like it's more obvious for me since I feel 'targeted' by it. I can't ignore them as easily. The more % of a character seem to only exist for (harem) fanservice the more annoying they will be. For example Lucoa from Kobayashi-san never did anything aside from shoving her tits into the camera and being a pedo. There was no purpose to her existence aside from the show wanting to have a cowtit character. I hate that kind of writing. If you feel obligated to include her just to cater to specific fans at least make an effort of making her relevant in any meaningful way and give her some actual lines and purpose in the context of the show. Have her impact the story in any way. But no, nobody in the writing or directing team gave a shit about her the moment her tits were drawn. She had fulfilled her purpose. I just have a hard time thinking of male characters where it is such an extreme disparity, at least not outside of Otome Game adaptions. And Lucoa for sure isn't a special, rare kind of case or anything. You'll meet characters whose purpose you can describe in a similar fashion in a LOT of shows. |

| I usually don't get attracted by how much hot someone is...if the characteristics of some hot guy or girl is shit, I just leave them. Shoo !! But if I like their personality or their logic or if they are deep characters, I won't judge, doesn't matter a guy or girl. |

| If I had to guess, the same way guys think about seeing a cool, awesome or hot guy character. For me, if the character has more going for it than just being hot or sexy, then that's cool with me. I'd rather have them look handsome than to look like ordinary people, or worse, repulsive, lol. |
