Win 10 would be free to upgrade from Win 7/8 for a year, so you've got enough time to think about it.

Yeah, I don't want to install it as soon as it comes out. I wanna wait a bit but I clicked reserve it, they still let you decide when you want to install it... I think.

You could consider using it when it comes out. It's practically been in a large beta test since it was announced. A lot of changes have been made periodically and a lot of those changes are improvements. Some of them not so improving... others are great.

I can't stick behind it 100%, but at this point I'm not sure I can go back comfortably.

Well apparently this is the last OS they are doing, but hey its free, can't argue there. If i hate it i'll go back to win 7. When does it officially come out and when do you think is a good time to actually install it?

That sounds weird. They're probably not going to stick to that. Though I've heard they want to charge a sub fee in order to maintain a schedule of OS updates.

No idea when it's coming out. Give it a few weeks or so and listen out for any particular problems. You may also want to partition your hard drive and give it a spin. If you don't like it you can always stick with what you still have.

If that is indeed true, I won't be sticking with windows 10 if it decides to go the subscription fee route. I use windows primarily because of gaming.

I didn't get the notification. I'm using windows 8.1 as of now.

Anyway you get a free upgrade to windows 10 for the 1st year of its release so I do not see the need to reserve it.

to those who didn't get the notification, try updating your windows(only if it's genuine). rumors say that pirated versions do have risks when upgrading to win 10.

Already did that except for the Updates which enabled the Notification. Hence why I haven't seen any Messages to this Day.

Uninstall KB3035583, boot from a Live Linux and delete the Subfolder called "GWX" from the System32/SySWoW64 Folders in Case they are not automatically deleted after (another) Reboot.

I'm kinda skeptical to upgrade to Windows 10. I've heard that 10 will implement some of the better features of Windows 7 and 8/8.1, but I'd rather wait a few months after it's out so they can iron out the big bugs that are normally associated with any new software release.

I'll reserve it, though. Better than having to pay for it later.

If you have to install classic shell to get the W7 feel, then why not just install W7 in the first place? lol

I'm part of the Windows Insider Program for over half a year now and using win 10 as my main OS in my laptop. Even with all the hiccups the current stage has, I think it's at least worth to try win 10 when you have the chance.

I can't fully recommend people to upgrade though, even if it's free for win7/8/8.1 users.

What do you use to do the system image backup?
Windows 7 and Windows 8 have a built in function for creating a system image. Windows Vista Business also does, but I doubt anyone here uses that. In Windows 7 you can find it under "Backup and Restore." In Windows 8, it's under "File History."

If you intend to do it, make sure you create a system repair disc, as you'll need it to mount the image...well, not need, but for the less tech savvy, it makes things easier. Also keep in mind that if your HDD is loaded with software/data, the image will be massive, so you need a drive that can hold everything. I have a 1TB portable drive I use exclusively for image backups, which I run monthly.

The idea is that if you're dissatisfied with 10, you can roll back to your last image and it will be like you never changed anything. I'd recommend doing this when you have everything at a point that you like, such as everything updated, any programs you don't want removed, etc.

Does it have to be a disc? or can it be a flash drive (usb).

You can use a USB. I just always had a CD since I made it when Windows 7 first launched and it was the first thing that came to mind. The USB option is there for folks who don't have an optical drive or anyone that just want that instead.

Do you know if installing windows 10 on one drive will effect games/apps/pics/music on a separate internal drive?
