| School Days is one of my favorite Anime but i don't know why people hate it as i can really feel for the characters, anyways back to the question and i think you should give Higurashi and Madoka a shot, both are very clever with twists and shocking in their own way. Happy viewing :) |

Now i admit Elfen Lied definetly has it's problems, but it is far from shit. You want shit watch School Days (even though OP liked it, which i can actually see why), DearS or Demon King Daimao. As for the topic. I loved Elfen Lied (even with all it's flaws) so a show you should check out is Brynhildr in the Darkness. It's written by the same person as Eflen Lied and shares tons of similarities. Brynhildr in the Darkness has a lot more comedy in it (you have to admit the very few comedy scenes in Elfen Lied are pathetic at best) and it's actually funny when it comes up. though the transitions between comedy and drama is still very sloppy it's stil very enjoyable. And just like Elfen Lied some of the things that happen are just downright sadistic and cruel......though i felt Elfen Lied had some scenes that were a bit more cruel, Brynhildr is definetly no slouch. |
