Yes, I'm making this thread now since there are already tons of stuff to talk about....it's officially June and we are less than 12 days away from the biggest sporting event on this planet.

The road to the world cup has finally led us to Brazil, which may not be exactly ready...

http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1187089

However, ready or not, here comes 32 nations from around the world all hoping and dreaming to lift the most coveted and most GLORIOUS trophy in all of sports!

For my American friends, yes we are in the "group of death" but to prove we can be a serious contender we MUST beat the best teams....

Regardless of what happens I will root my ass off for the RED, WHITE, and BLUE!

And remember, the U.S might have many flaws as a country, but sports is still something we excel in, the chant "USA, USA, USA" was born during a sporting event.

And less we forget how magical the last world cup made us feel:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbn3rOPmR9w

With all that being said.....Gentlemen, are you ready for some FOOTBALL?!

Harsh.

Their group is not that bad really....Australia is just there to be there, I think Chile along with a few other S.A teams are overrated, and I think they would want SOME type of revenge against Spain.

I think they advance.

Anyone see Mexico's winger Luis Montes get injured along with the Ecuador player Segundo Castillo today?
Very horrible injury for Montes who is going to miss the World Cup. Expected return to the field could be up to 8 months or more.

Italy also loses Ricardo Montolivo due to injury.

Clearly you have never seen Chile play. They smashed england, embarrassed germany with their style of play and went toe to toe with spain. They are one of the most entertaining sides to watch and the oranje at the moment is really really weak. I have to agree that some of the south american sides like colombia, ecuador and uruguay are overrated but certainly the same can't be said of chile.

USA with a nice 2-1 win over Turkey in today's friendly.

And anyone who thinks that the U.S doesn't care about soccer should've seen that game....the crowd was AMAZING and into the entire game.

Soccer may never reach the status the NFL is in America, but we DO care, and we ARE rooting for our boys.

USA, USA, USA!

The thing I took away from that game was how the defense looked early. They settled down later in the game, but early on Turkey was beating them on through balls and easy crosses. USA's defense looked very weak for awhile.

I just hope Klinsmann has a good WC strategy.....especially when they go up against Portugal and Germany.

Technically the U.S doesn't even have to beat Germany or Portugal to advance, it's possible for them to advance with just one victory and one draw.

It'll just be very difficult and require luck.

I know our chances are not great, but what better way to shock the world than in the biggest world event?

World Cup is always a highlight for me. I try to catch every single match, succeeded in 2010 somehow doing that. This year not as likely but that's life.

I'm betting on Argentina to win, it's in their climate, they have great players, and look to have a competent manager. Can't look past Spain or Germany either. Brazil might make a deep run and they have a great squad for 45 minutes I just worry about them going a full 90 minutes against much deeper sides.

Who the fuck is saying USA is going to win?

Do you think it's me?

No.

I'm a USA Soccer fan, and I'll be rooting my ass off, but I'm a realistic person, I KNOW a lot about sports, I understand it very well, and I KNOW that our chances are basically 0%

But that doesn't mean I don't get to root and hope that MAYBE the impossible CAN be possible....but I don't hear ANYONE saying USA is going to win the WC.

Setimo said:

Bullshit....NO ONE is saying USA is going to win.

And you know what, as much as I like SOCCER/Football.....I can't stand people who make fun of American Football just because we (Americans, Canadians, Australians, and many other English and non-English speaking countries) call it "Soccer".

We're not offending the sport by calling it Soccer, that's just the word we use.

??? <- first line
I don't think Holland is bad, that's what I said.
I rarely call American-Football handegg though, regardless, I never saw someone get worked up about it.
I'm not a fan of neither football nor american-football (HANDEGG) so I might be wrong on my post.

I don't know if I will watch any match.
I will probably watch the final if Germany is there, but I would probably get bored at half time.
I lost interest in watching football.
Playing FIFA alone is more fun.

Yeah, I only started watching football again this March, before I haven't watched any game in an eternity. I'm lucky, though, to be back and I'm still interested and looking forward to the World Cup like never before.

Group B looks interesting. If Mexico comes 2nd in their group and Chile first then the infamous 5th gamr for Mexico will be met. Not sure if RVP will play the world cup but if he doesn't then Chile could come 1st in their group

Same for me. I've waited so long for this.. So excited.

I am banking on Spain winning again, but if not I am going for Portugal. Argentina is another I will be watching closely. Wouldn't mind if any of those 3 won.

Anyway, I just can't wait to see my Ronaldo. <3

It's written in the stars that England will win. Austria won Eurovision in 66 and again this year. If that isn't a sign then I don't know what is.
