@AudioTsunami Some suggestions » Read a one-shot Umwelt » Read a manga by an author/artist you don't know Kiseijuu » Read a manga with a main cast mainly of one gender Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Part 2: Battle Tendency I liked this part more that the first one. » Read a manga about food, music or art Sakamichi no Apollon » Watch a Sci-Fi, Space or Mecha manga Planetes » Read a Mystery, Thriller or Psychological manga Pluto » Read a manga that has not been adapted in any way Nijigahara Holograph This was kind of weird, but I found it interesting. It seems you don't like Asano Inio much though, so you can skip this one if you'd like. @Dullboy I was surprised I hadn't seen you around! I'm pacing myself a bit this year too, but I'm trying to read a bit every day so it won't be like last year (rushing through a bunch of unplanned manga in the last 2 weeks). I'll look forward to your impressions! |

@brenees Well, I'd say it doesn't because Naoya, the actual MC is human. It is true that the spirits are also considered main in the manga database, but the story revolves around him. Edit: Actually, I changed my mind. If it's identified as a main in the characters, I'll accept it, so yeah it counts! |

I need some help to find a manga that I forgot the name.. I was searching for a manga about art , and that one came to mind but impossible to remember the name of it : it's about a young woman painter , it's kind of historical I think , because it take place in the Italia of the past (or is it France ?) . Anyway , it focus on a young woman artist trying to live of her art even with the difficulty , sexism and all . I'm pretty sure it's a recent thing and ongoing , at least I know it's publishing here in french , but maybe not in english , I don't know . Hope somebody will know , thanks in advance |

thanks, i guess i'll wait with toriko until i've made some progress^^ while working on my challenge list i got some new questions: -» Read a manga that focuses on non-romantic relationships: <- would Rainbow be okay? -» Read a manga that focuses on a couple with a romantic relationship: <- Akagami no Shirayuki-hime? -» Read a manga adapted from a video game, original anime or light novel: <- is this limited to LNs or is a novel okay? -» Read a light novel: <- is something like "No Game No Life v3" okay? -target demographic: does it matter if i choose shounen or seinen? (i'm 21) -should i mark which genre etc i chose? e.g.: » Read a manga about food, music or art: Arte » Read a manga about food, music or art: Arte (art) » Read a manga about food, music or art: Arte » Read a manga about art: Arte |

@Simar yes, onRainbow but just know that it hasn't been completely translated and at the rate the chapters are being released currently, it's gonna take 2+ years. That doesn't effect eligibility for the challenge, but it might effect your enjoyment in that you won't get a full story for a fairly long time if you ever do. Yes on Shirayuki LNs only since it is specified. Idk what you mean by NGNL v3. If you mean just the 3rd volume then no. You have to read a series. Seinen only since you're 21 You can specify the genre if you want to, it's not required. I just bold the genre i used. Ex: » Read a manga about food, music or art: Arte |

Actually @AudioTsunami @Simar for the bonus challenge Read a Light Novel just any volume is OK, you don't have to read the whole series, so V3 of that series works towards the bonus. I agree you should choose Seinen. |

@Simar well, a few people have mentioned interest in including light novels, so maybe you could see if people would be interested in a light novel challenge? It doesn't have to be as big as this, maybe just 5, 10 or 15 items. If you're interested in running one, I recommend you contact Kineta. If not, forget I suggested it XD |

Hello, I'll try this challenge, since it looks like fun. へへ I have a question about that: Creators ✧ Read a manga by one of your favorite authors/artists: Zankoku na Kami ga Shihai suru (Moto Hagio) » Read a manga published in the same magazine in which your favorite one was serialized For the first item, I choose Moto Hagio from my (little) list of favorite mangaka. But for the second item, have I to stick with Moto Hagio, or may I choose another mangaka from my list, like CLAMP? I fact I'm not sure to understand the point of that second item, because mangaka usually publish in numerous magazines, so we have a very, very large choice, except you aren't lucky and have a mono-maniac mangaka or a not very productive one. :p And concerning that item: » Read a Harem, Ecchi, Shoujo Ai or Shounen Ai manga I agree with @Dullboy here. Since most of shōjo-ai and shōnen'ai are mere romance. It's not in the same thematic than "ecchi". And anyway, since my list will have a lot of yuri/yaoi, I'll stick with Harem/Ecchi for that item. BTW, still for that item, is an hentai manga works? As a "super-ecchi"? へへ Since I have an hentai that I'll probably read someday. Thus I was surprised to not have the "read an hentai manga" item, at least as a bonus. |

yazio said: I don't really see the point of a LN-specific challenge. With few exceptions, most of them could easily be done using Light Novels if desired. That'd be like having Movie, OVA, or ONA challenges too. This challenge doesn't include LNs. Movies, OVAs, and ONAs are included in the anime challenge. That is why there is interest for an LN challenge. |

But anyway, ecchi and harem are very common genres, so it wouldn't be hard to find one somewhat decent. へへ |

Read a manga from a magazine with less than 250 titles listed in the database The above is under "Creators" too, yet it's not to do with a mangaka either. Also, what if your favourite author's work is not limited to one magazine, then which one would you choose? |

lady_freyja said: Are you sure? Since it is in the "Creators" category, I was assuming that the "favorite" stood for "mangaka" and not "manga". I think the reason is, a lot of mangaka publish in multiple magazines. For example, if my favorite mangaka were Kazurou Inoue (Which he isn't but whatever), which magazine would I use? That dude's work has been published in Shounen Sunday, Shounen Sunday Super, Young Animal, Young Animal Island, Young Animal Densi, and Gekkan! Sprits. With "favorite manga", I'll 100% be limited to a single mag. Also, your favorite mangaka doesn't necessarily have to be the one who wrote your favorite manga. So since we already have a challenge for "one of your favorite mangaka", this adds more diversity, I think. |
Feb 29, 2016 11:56 AM
#425
@Berserk @Horkus Yup, that's why I didn't understand the point of that item. But "favorite manga" still have the same issue. I mean I don't have one favorite manga (I can't compare a rom-com to a tragedy), and I listed 10 manga as "favorite" in my profile… and I could have listed more/others honestly. So I still have the choice between 10 magazines, virtually. |
Feb 29, 2016 12:52 PM

But 10 is less than 10 + additional magazines those mangakas were published in. |

@lady_freyja The second item you mention does have to do with the magazine your favorite manga was published in. If you don't have just one favorite, but a bunch of them, you just have to handpick one from that list and then check which magazine it is. The reason why magazines are included under Creators is because the content of a magazine will be influenced by its editors. It is true that the mangaka creates, but editors and magazines also play a role on what a mangaka's work is like. Some magazines, such a Weekly Shonen Jump, usually feature the same type of manga over and over, so if you liked something features in that magazine, maybe there will be some other manga that you will also like. Hentai is excluded because it features explicit content and this could be a problem for underage participants. @yazio It's like AudioTsunami said. You can only read a LN as a bonus for this challenge and it's supposed to be just one volume. Although the are listed in the database as a manga type, I consider them different and many manga readers are not interested. It is true that they could be allowed for whoever wanted to read them, but I decided not to and that's part of the rules. Which is why I suggested creating another challenge separately for people who were interested. |

Hi! I've got some questions regarding the challenge, and I would sure love it if someone could help me out aswering them: -Firstly, is it possible to use a series started before 2016, from which I only read a couple chapters before putting it on hold? For example, I only read 4 chapters out of 32 for Illegal Rare or 17 out of 181 for Sun Ken-Rock. Could they count? -What demographics apply to a 18-years-old guy? Is it still shounen or rather it starts being seinen? -What qualifies for "an author/artist you don't know"? And while I'm at it, can I ask for some recommendations? That would be really nice! |
Mar 5, 2016 3:08 PM
#443
@Rokusaru You have to restart the series from the beginning if you are continuing something dropped prior to 2016. I believe it's primarily shounen but 18-19 area I think can choose either demo. I know 21 has to go seinen. For the "don't know" challenge, you have to have not read any work of the mangaka. What do you specifically need recommendations for? I would definitely suggest Crows for any challenge it would fit under though. |

I'll definitely check Crows, looks really interesting! As for recommendations I'm definitelly not picky, I'm open to anything. Though I would appreciate help with "a manga adapted from a video game, original anime or light novel" (one that is not merely a watered-down version of the original, if not better), and "a manga that has a main character of gender opposite to the demographic" (not good with these things). Thanks again! |
