| Now, as I was wasting time on MAL (once again), as I stumbled upon this post: http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=706743&show=20#msg27011549 At first, it struck me as odd. Then I thought about it, and can't decide whether it's a horrifying, genius or just stupid idea. Or all of the above. I may not be a much of a fanfiction writer myself (which is why I'm not going to bother to write according to this idea), but I do know that some people write fanfiction about real life people, like celebrities, historical figures and such. And while MAL may not be on exactly same level as those examples, might I point out that there's been, and probably always will be, fanfictions about a lot more unorthodox subjects. However, it's always dodgy to write about real people. On the other hand, the most that these possible writers would get out of the said people in this scenario would be limited to how they act with their internet identities, along with bunch of stuff they've decided to reveal about themselves on a forum such as this one. I did not reach a conclusion in my pondering. So naturally, the next logical step was to create a MAL-thread. Opinions? |

There's always people who will write about people, regardless whether they have given their blessings or not. That can be easily solved by using OC based on people you know. For example, my MAL fanfic is about the forbidden love between MellowYellow, it rhymes, and Reg_Keys, a concept in computer systems; so you don't have to worry about how close your characters mimic reality. |
