I wouldn't bet on that. In the last few months, WSJ got a lot of new series which are all mostly in the bottom 5 all the time/poor tank sales/all selling less than Beelzebub.
If anything, Kurokuroku and Hime-dol! will be the first ones to go followed by Hachi and Koi no Cupid.

So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?
I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?
I wonder how long people would put up with this.
As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.
Holy shit this is my first time seeing Manga/Anime sales and they are nothing compared to BD/DVD sales. It looks like Manga sells better than anime by a very very wide gap.
pikeman1 said: great, Owarimonogatari ranked 1st again
so I guess the the series will not end soon as planned :v
Owari will be at least two volumes, perhaps three. Zoku could be two or three as well. It isn't over until Nisioisin says it's over LOL
And we never know if we will have spiin-off or anthology of more short stories, prequels... lol

Manga/LN volumes are about ten times cheaper than anime BD/DVD discs so it's much easier to collect them.
I was wondering why Earth Star titles never rank and while that isn't answered here it is interesting that 400000 copies are claimed by Pupa over 4 volumes which seems to be about 100000 copies/volume which would have ranked unless the sales were really, really slow so I wonder if they don't rank for some reason. Earth Star volumes aren't even a weird size if I recall so it beats me why they wouldn't be on Oricon... http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2013-11-16/sayaka-mogi-horror-manga-pupa-to-end-in-december
^ But you know that the sales tabulated by Oricon are almost always lower than the sales number coming from the publisher, right?

I take this meaning you don't buy manga/LN from Amazon then?

Amazon charge ridiculous amounts for shipping, because they basically get you to pay the shipping rate of some huge thick hardcover books no matter the weight of the item you're actually ordering, and usually ends up being about twice as much as they actually spend on the postage.
I buy from honto.jp, which charges you in shipping the same amount as what they actually pay for it, cutting around 20% off the total* cost of the order compared to amazon for large orders (and a much higher proportion for smaller ones).
I really don't know why people use amazon.
*in other words, including the price of the books as well

There is no such thing as shit taste. Only idiots who think everyone should have the same taste as they do.
Not sure about others, but I use Amazon when I am in Japan, and shipping cost within Japan is zero in Amazon.
How about BD/DVD? I just look and it seems Honto.jp does not offer the same discount as Amazon...

Yeah, honto.jp aren't very good for BR/DVDs. Then again I haven't bought many of them, so haven't really had the chance to settle down with a regular place. Trying out CDJapan for Non Non Biyori vol 1.
After all, with books, shipping makes up a significant part of the cost, whereas with BR/DVD it's completely overwhelmed by the costs of the item itself and customs.

Yes but we must have some benchmarks from which to work backwards. I.e. titles which ranked on Oricon and then went on to say "10 million in print!" so we can figure out what the ratio is. Surely something which sells 100K copies total must be at least a ranking amount, no? Or is SnK really selling 10 million copies per issue?
For 6 years I used amazon.co.jp exclusively but lately they and DHL have given me grief so I have switched to Neowing/CDJapan and once used Lawson/HMV but EMS is slow so I prefer Neowing/CDJapan with Fedex right now.
But you are right, amazon's 27% discount on Blurays makes it very hard to beat if you buy many Blurays. I've had to cut down on them but I find myself buying more books and CDs lately anyhow.

Actually I would like to see ANN's source for saying vol.4 selling 400k copies. This information is not in the Source the article quoted.

I found an image on Earth Star's official site that mentions the series reaching 400k copies in circulation. Don't know if that's ANN's source or not.
Also, it's 400k copies for the entire series (i.e. 100k per volume on average), not for volume 4 alone.
Precisely, 400k is for THE ENTIRE SERIES and NUMBER PRINTED (not sold). I can see how the passage in ANN's article where it said "The manga series has topped 400,000 copies as of the fourth volume." can read both ways so I would not fault ANN for misreporting but surely ANN could have written it a bit clearer.
Anyway, given it is just 100k printed per volume, and combined with how Oricon's number will always be less than the actual sales tabulated by the publisher, it should be easy to see why Pupa never gets ranked in Oricon manga chart.
