Well, I'd like to know how you got into anime. Whether it's by your friends or your own accord ^^

I got into anime by Pokemon :p I don't know if that counts but it was like a stepping stone. After that, it was YuGiOh, Digimon, Tokyo Mew Mew, .hack, Inuyasha, Gokusen and then the list goes on and on.

What about you guys?

My first anime was Pokemon, but that didn't really get me into it because I didn't know it was anime...

I guess it's because of Lucky Star. I heard it was a good show, so I started watching it and from there I just got into a bunch of different anime.

Started with Pokemon, as well as Digimon, and then Dragon Ball Z. And then I really got into Toonami, and from there as I got older it just continued.

Boredom and easiness of downloading fansubs. Besides Naruto and Bleach, I only knew dub anime (Dragon Ball Z, Death Note, Fullmetal Alchemist, Gumdam series...)

I was a noob in the anime world and a friend of mine suggested me some popular ones :

Code Geass, FLCL, GTO, Samurai Champloo, Afro Samurai...

I've always been into anime since I remember, because it was on tv and I loved it.

I started to watch English subbed anime after a friend let me borrow her Fruits Basket dvd. I started downloaded after I made a friend in college with whom I agreed to download together (each would download one letter of the alphabet. We stopped at E)

My first anime was Pokemon, Digimon, etc, but my childhood anime series I especially remember is Shaman King. The anime that really boosted me is Death Note.

Also, this is a duplicate. I think the original topic got buried...

I got into anime when a friend of me recommended me to watch Death Note, which I really enjoyed, so after DN I watched Initial D, and when I finished it, I was hooked on anime and I always wanted to know more (just like right now).

My first anime was Pokemon but at the time I didn't recognize it as anime, just a cartoon.

Yu-Gi-Oh! was probably what got me into reading anime and manga.

I've always liked anime, seeing how I grew up with Pokémon, Sailor Moon, and DBZ, but I wasn't into anime as a whole. I just liked those series. I didn't really get into anime until I joined my middle and high school anime clubs. The members' love for their favorite series made me want to watch more anime, discovering some of my favorite shows in the process.

Pokemon
After that, Dragon Ball Z
Then, Inuyasha, Full Metal Alchemist, FLCL, Rurouni Kenshin, or any anime they showed on Toonami and Adult Swim.
After that, I got over anime for a long time.
Then I watched Death Note out of curiosity, and thanks to that I'm back into watching them, and started watching even more.

Although, I'm still trying to remember all the anime's I watched whey I was younger.

And also, the only manga I ever read was Ranma 1/2 back in 5th grade, but I stopped reading them after a shopkeeper refused to sell them to me since I was too young.

I'd always been interested in Adult Swim, and one night I stayed up late Saturday night and saw Inuyasha. That's pretty much how it happened.

I never really knew what anime was when I was into Pokemon, so I don't think that really counts. But my whole family definitely loved Pokemon and got me into it at about 5 or 6.

hmm I watched Pokemon and recorded over 100 episodes of DBZ when I was smaller but at the time I had no idea what anime was, prolly my first realization that anime wasn't made in U.S. was Rurouni Kenshin when they aired it on Toonami, but when I actually got into watching shows that didn't air in U.S. was when I was looking up Bleach cause all they had was re-runs on TV.

I got Elfen Lied from a friend and was instantly hooked on anime. Started watching popular stuff like Naruto, Bleach, Higurashi etc, and kept going from there.

First manga I read, (except for some volumes I read as a kid), was Naruto and Bleach. I began reading those because I wanted to know the story and didn't feel like waiting for the anime. This made me like manga a lot and I kept on reading others.

Well, since I have memory I've always been watching anime, first started on the TV, with stuff like Sailor Moon/Dragon Ball/Captain Tsubasa/Doraemon/etc, then as the time passed new stuff came out like Pokemon/Digimon.

But what really got me into anime, maybe because that is when I found that is how it was called, was Rurouni Kenshin and Shaman King, lol.

I think what got me seriously into anime was Sailor Moon back on Toonami. It was a fun series and I liked it a lot. We recently got the internet in my house at the time too and I wound up talking to a whole lot of anime fans online and I learned about some different series by doing a lot of web surfing. Sailor Moon was the first anime I learned was anime, after all.

Then there was stuff like Speed Racer, Pokemon, and Cardcaptors that I would also learn were anime by doing even more web surfing...

And after trying Saint Tail, I started picking up CCS subtitled to see the episodes I was missing out on... and I liked reading subtitles because I'm a nerd. And just my luck - Tokyopop only dubbed part of the Saint Tail series and the rest I actually had to watch subtitled.

And then I was collecting the Sailor Moon manga, the CCS manga, the Saint Tail manga... and then I would try other series that were mostly from CLAMP and then I'd find out about even more series as manga and anime started populating bookshelves... and from there, it just kind of spiraled into my wonderful anime and manga collection. :D

I also had a lot of IRL friends who would exchange manga and anime with me so I was exposed to a lot of different series in high school. But most of those friends I don't see as often anymore because they've either decided anime was childish and crap, or they've moved away, or they don't keep up with the series they're collecting as half as well as they used to. I'd say I'm pretty consistent with keeping up on the latest series and such - I may not watch them immediately, but I know what's been playing in Japan or what's popular among fans today.

I was helping a friend check up on anime updates online since her internet was out. She had tried to introduce me to anime with really, really BAD magical girl shows (no, I really mean the bad ones. If it had been Princess Tutu or CCS I would have loved it immediately). After she finally figured out my tastes didn't run that was, she recommended a darker one.... I downloaded Baccano! instead, and the rest is history. Baccano! was awesome, and totally changed my views on what anime was.

used to watch Pokemon on tv. Watched every single episode :)

Have also seen beyblade(not all) all Digimon and some Naruto(only 10 min sometimes)

But i lost the interest til i found it again in the 9th grade thanks to one of my classmates who is now my best friend. He showed me Bleach and after a few episodes i was hooked. I watched almost every day for the last 2 months and got really attached to anime at that point. When i finished bleach(meaning to see 1 episode a week) i was insecure of what to see next. So my best friend showed me naruto and again i was hooked :D

Now i watch a lot of different animes and me and my best friend often watch weekly animes together(Mitsudomoe, HSOTD, Ookami-san etc)

So in basic i have my best friend to thank for showing me anime :)

Basically, one day I was looking through youtube's most popular videos and found an amv called Haruhi Suzumiya AMV - She's Just Oblivious. At the time, I found it interesting, but was more intrigued by the creator's amv Fushigi Yugi AMV - Lift Me Up. Intrigued with the series shown in the video, I decided to watch it and hence my anime interest began as I tried to watch series after series. However, the series that truly lead me to as I am today was Fruits Basket in 7th grade. Now look at me now~

In addition, Fruits Basket was my first manga as after watching the series I wanted to keep on with the story and at the time they had it at my library.

Well, I've seen quite a few manga and anime when I was little, but never really into it.

I'm anime free for a while, then I saw Yuki Nagato vs Asakura on Youtube. Which got me interested in Haruhi series, so... I tried, and enjoyed it.

Then, I found Lucky Star clip on related video of Haruhi on youtube, how they parody the show and stuff, so I gave Lucky Star a go, enjoyed it.

Then, I start reading manga online and saw Shakugan no Shana episode one, and I happen to find the anime on youtube, so I watch 1 episode. Enjoyed iy.

Though Haruhi is the anime that open my eyes to other anime, it is Shakugan no Shana that got me addicted.

so... I'd say Shana.
