Since embedded links don't work at the moment, my impressions of this episode are here: http://youtu.be/p0JUMTalCk8

I'll admit that the formula is starting to become a bit dry for me, though it was a good episode nonetheless.

The vacuum cleaner part was beyond retarded, even from her it's too much. All the second-hand embarrassment and cringing this show gives me...

Kii-chan is such a good girl.

Well, that's what you get for lying to your younger cousin like that. You got her hopes up, then smashed them with a sledgehammer. No doubt she'll be thinking very differently about you from now on, Tomoko.

I had to look away three times, because it was getting too embarrassing to watch.

I was honestly hoping the guy would be single and looking for a girl, and that he'd actually like Tomoko, but it seems she got her hopes up too soon, which means she has to start over from scratch.

She could've just told him that her cousin is a bit delusional, but I guess she decided that being truthful was the better option, even if it meant losing this guy forever.

And are those kids not aware of the type of gloves she wears during that card game? Do none of them ever wonder how she's able to get the best card out of nowhere, right before she's about to lose? And I guess she's really on the bottom of the social ladder if she needs to impress a bunch of grade school kids to look even remotely popular. That's quite pitiful.

Man even on episode 8, this show is still painful to watch when I look at Tomoko. Well I hope she improves well during future episodes.

Anyway the vacuum part was funny as well as the outfit that she bought was lol. Huh it's the guy that gave her the umbrella I didn't expect that he would be here. I nice introduction for Ki-chan and seeing her thoughts on Tomoko. At least she get to spend time with Tomoko in the end. Haha the card game looks interesting when she began to execute her moves into defeating the boy.

That cringe-worthy second hand embarrassment. Too bad Kii-chan's pitying eyes didn't look out as well as in manga: http://z.mfcdn.net/store/manga/9370/02-016.0/compressed/s008.jpg

Hmm why was Ki-chan shocked when she saw Tomoko bow to Kosoka?
Was Tomoko apologizing to him?

At least Tomoko had an almost normal conversation with someone else for once, despite all the bad stuff that happened because of it. Maybe she could have even become friends with the guy if she hadn't lied to her cousin.

Lol, what Tomoko did to herself with the vacuum cleaner, kinda reminds me of this creature. Good thing her mom gave some slapping.

So, she the queen in some card game location, looks like the only guy she'll ever be with are kids.

So far the most awkward episode to watch. Still enjoyable nonetheless.

Also recognized the card she cheated in.

My enjoyment of this show dropped exponentially. The latter half I was wondering why I was still watching.

Indeed, I would not have slapped my daughter under those same circumstances.

Another very famous slap in anime is in the 1991 feature-length anime film
Only Yesterday ( おもひでぽろぽろ / Omoide Poro Poro ). The father slapped
his ten-year-old daughter because she walked out the front door without first
putting her shoes on. In addition, the story presented the father and his
disciplinary behavior in a positive light. However, the law in many countries
nowadays says that this is child abuse or criminal assault. So that scene was
TOTALLY unacceptable for western audiences.

The director (Isao Takahata) would not agree to any of the content being cut
out for overseas versions. As a result, Only Yesterday has never been dubbed.
It is truly a shame since it is a hauntingly beautiful film. For me, it is the most
compelling depiction of life of anything that Studio Ghibli has done. Yet Only
Yesterday remains the only Ghibli movie not to have been released for home
video in the US and Canada. I should add that just now I cannot find a
primary source to back up my recollections of this situation, so please don't
cite me. In addition it should be mentioned there was some other highly-
controversial material in the story, such as the fact that ten-year-old girls
start to get their monthly periods.

You can find that same scene described in words (and a still photo) here:
http://ghibliproject.blogspot.ca/2011/10/only-yesterday-reaction-to-miyazakis.html

You can pick up a few more details in this discussion:

The most common was the 90-degree bow. To be honest, her bowing
style is kinda scary. It reminds me of Sadako (The Ring) crawling out
from the television.

Tomoko's bow of apology in the anime was very, very different from her bow
of apology in the manga, which you can see clearly here:

http://mangafox.me/manga/watashi_ga_motenai_no_wa_dou_kangaete_mo_omaera_ga_warui/v02/c015/13.html

The style of Tomoko's bow in the manga is quite similar to bows of apology
that I have seen before in anime, such as Kannagi. But her posture during her
apology as shown in the anime was not familiar to me.

Based on Googling, and not on any knowledge of Japan, it appears that what
Tomoko was doing was a kind of bow called "zarei" (座礼) and here is a step-
by-step illustration of the proper way to do it:
http://www.sushi-guide-morita.de/htdocs_jp/verbeugung_jp.html

If you search on Google Images for 座礼 you can see lots of pictures.

Oh man. Kii confronting the guy was so hard to watch!

In the end Kii learned the truth about Tomoko too. Yandere Kii-chan is pretty scary and she just about lost all respect for Tomoko. I kinda feel bad for her, but she totally deserved it for all those lies of hers. Even cheating at a kids game isn't too much for her. :/

I am conflicted, Tomoko's attempt at coolness backfired so hard it was painful to watch, but this made her cousin awaken the goodness in her heart, from now on no doubt the little birds will flock to her hands, woodland creatures look for her caress and violent animales will become docile in her presence. I am looking forward to the next time they meet, maybe kii-chan wil drag with chains a boy to let Tomoko believe there is a member of the opposite sex interested in her >_<

it was really nice seeing umbrella boy again, i was secretly hoping he'd become a recurring character but yenno it's watamote of course that wouldn't happen.
anyways, i totally sympathize with kii-chan here. she went from admiring to looking down to pitying tomoko. just like me!

Please enlighten yourself with Magic the Gathering.

The only difference is that the average age for MTG players is much much higher.

I would have laughed so hard if she was cheating a JTMS out.
