| What the???? Herlock? It sounds ridiculous, who approved this? It's literally Captain Harlock everywhere. Give an answer mods, why is it that it's different on mal than anywhere else? Look at the poster and tell me it's Herlock, it would be different for he old one because they weren't that good in english during that time. |

It's official, it's not the usual american change or MAL thing. It's a problem born from the Japanese's way of transcripting their sounds. Turned into kana, it could give harlock but it was thought as Herlock. (I can't find Matsumoto's say about that, zut) @omy785 Sorry you took it for you. I was not trying to defend it, only giving the reason. And I know I didn't bring the text I had read nor did I explain myself decently but the kana don't prove anything against it. The problem is born from the gap between the way they transcript in alphabet based on what they think is the way westerners (aka american peoples for some, others in other cases) say those letters combination´s, the name was probably made the reversal way (letters -› kana), I-m not sure anymore. So, between Sorry again for not being clear enough, I really can't find the clear explanation again or else I would have scanned it (it's interesting). Anyway, no use of trying to argue, I sadly can't report the info in a decent way. -_- France had a hard time already giving up "Albator" so we stayed with Harlock. (and, like you said, it isn't false) PS: just look at the kana used for the english "her" or for the name "Hercules" |

The japanese wiki also has Harlock really bold. As others mentioned earlier, the name is only used in an older OVA. Not to forget that the official website is Harlock-movie and not Herlock-movie So not sure who changed it from Harlock to Herlock, but for the love of this database, please a mod change it to its right name |
