Dragon Ball Z Movie 02: Kono Yo de Ichiban Tsuyoi Yatsu

This movie was better than the last movie. First off, the fights where more epic than the last, and they featured more characters in this one. What i really like is this pretty much the last time Master Roshi is seen fighting. This movie takes place somewhere between the Saiyan saga, and Frieza saga. Like all the DBZ movies, it contains plot inconsitencies. Like how piccolo is some how alive even though he was killed by Nappa. All and all this was a pretty good movie. What I really enjoyed was when Master Roshi, Krillin, and Goku used a Kamehameha wave all at the same ... time against Wheelo.

I remember this being one of the better DBZ movies when I was a dumbass 14 year-old who liked the franchise, half a lifetime ago. I particularly recall enjoying the biomechanical monsters the Z warriors fought. Needless to write, nostalgia clouded my judgment.

As with any property related to DBZ, the plot is insipid. A mad scientist, Dr. Kochin, is able to easily gather all 7 Dragonballs before Goku and company even figure out what is going on. Some defenders of Earth they are! What is the point of even having a radar if they are going to ignore ... it? It's not like Goku has a day job.

After summoning the Eternal Dragon, instead of wishing for ultimate power to easily defeat anyone in the universe, Dr. Kochin wishes for a few piddly glaciers to melt. This frees up the main mad scientist, Dr. Wheelo, who has been trapped there for 50 years.

Magically, despite being there all that time and unable to escape, he has a fully functioning laboratory, a power supply, and numerous minions when the glaciers are broken! Frankly, I was disappointed he didn't have a French restaurant with waiters, too.

Instead of getting straight to the fights, there is an interlude during which Gohan is back home and studying. It is boring and worthless. As usual with DBZ, there is entirely too much talking in this movie, and of the most moronic variety. "I'll make you pay!" "Silence, you fool!" "(Insert character name, yelled loudly)" "You can't win!" "My boy is growing up!"

Considering how mediocre and low-effort the fight scenes are to begin with, did the animators really have to take a break to insert dialogue worse than a 13 year-old's fan fiction?

Okay okay, but what about the actual enemies and fights themselves? While better than some of the DBZ movie sequels, they weren't as cool as I remembered them. Dr. Wheelo's biomechanical creations fight and function very similarly to the standard alien antagonists of the Z universe. Hell, they even look like aliens. One has a stretchy stomach, another ice breath, and a third tentacles of electricity. That's about it for the "creativity".

Also, any final fight that ends with a spirit bomb is disappointing and anticlimactic.

I can't imagine anything more boring (Goku stands there, with his hands raised, doing nothing) or more deus ex machina. (An easy get out of jail card when Goku is weaker than his nemesis but needs to defeat him in the last few minutes of the film)

In conclusion, this is lousy, although admittedly not as wretched as some of the mass-produced DBZ movies that followed.

Hmmm, "The World's Strongest" was actually better than the last Dragon Ball Z movie I watched (the one with the cyborgs). So I guessed (correctly) this must have been made before the other one, when they were less short of ideas. This movie is slightly more exciting than the other one, but other than that, it's the same stuff. Same crappy jokes, same unimpressive animation, and same retarded storyline. Again, the story spends a few minutes introducing who the bad guys are... then promptly descends into endless fighting. The only differences between this and the last Dragon Ball movie I watched is that this movie ... spends maybe five minutes longer before the main battles start, and also Goku is fighting different opponents this time round. The fighting itself isn't much to talk about either, as it gets seriously repetitive after a few minutes. A bit of a worthless movie whichever angle you look at it from.

Firstly if you dont like the DBZ brand then you wont like this movie.This is definately for the fans and those who want a quick action fix with no strings attached.The plot is fairly straightforward,Gohan and oolong were playing with the dragon radar one day and then realize that all seven dragon balls were being gathered in one place.They then become alarmed and take the radar and venture out to see who was gathering them.Their search lead them to an artic wilderness where it is said that the ice is so dense that not even the sun can melt it and it stays frozen all ... year round.

The man who is behind the dragon ball collecting is Dr koshin, an evil scientist and partner to Dr wheelo.The two of them had planned to take over the world fifety years ago useing their terrible biotechnology but fate intervened causeing an avalanche which trapped Dr wheelo beneath the frozen wilderness.Now after fifety years Dr kochin has used the dragonballs to release the evil of Dr wheelo upon the earth again.The situation is even more dire as Dr wheelo's body was destroyed in the accident and he seeks a vessel for his brilliant mind,he seeks the world strongest and goku's gonna give it to him.After Master roshi was kidnapped by Dr koshin who believes him to be the world strongest fighter as he was fifty years ago,they try to use him but they are unaware of the earth new saviour Goku who must rescue master roshi,oolong and gohan while at the same time stop Dr wheelo from taking over his body and the world.

What i love about this movie is the awesome fight scene,it uses swift kicks and punches in real choreograph martial arts and energy attacks that comes out beatufully.Dr koshin evil henchmen all have their own specail ability and the fights with them and goku is great although short.The animation and sound are typical dbz material but the blu-ray version looks awesome.A thoroughly entertaininging short movie and a must watch for any dbz fan.

This film is your typical story of our main gang teaming up to fight evil and the outcome is predictable of course, but the film was still enjoyable. I really liked the pacing in particular. The dialogue doesn't go on for too long and the balance between the fight scenes and the slower scenes is just right to progress the story to where it needs to go. I tend to view the DBZ films as standalone films within the franchise because trying to make sense of them timeline wise kind of ruins how much I enjoy the films as a whole (because it doesn't make ... sense otherwise).

Overall I thought the film was good. The pacing and the art stood out for me.

This movie is clearly superior over the first one. I was actually impressed by the Animation and Colorization, it looks splendid. The snowy scenery helped to built a good atmosphere and even inside the building they did a very good job imo.

Also it was a smart decision to implement 2 main villains (Willow is the main guy sure, but Dr. Kochin served a good part of it too). Willow remained the mystery guy for a long time until he gets revealed, which adds another layer of tension in the movie as you want to see who this person is.

Even the secondary cyborg henchmen were all ... nicely designed and had interesting short fights. The climax fight in the end was also really diverse and entertaining and Goku used all of his famous attacks at this point (around Ep 40 of the DBZ series). I even see some character resemblance between Dr. Willow and the later Dr. Gero of the main series.

Also it felt really fresh to see Muten Roshi fight which happens rarely in the DBZ series.

I would clearly recommend this movie for DBZ Fans who haven't watched it so far.

Like it's predecessor, I didn't have the highest of expectations going into World's Strongest, but I must admit they were a bit higher after being surprisingly happy with how solid The Dead Zone was. In the end, I feel whilst World's Strongest is an enjoyable, fun romp, it has more notable weaknesses then it's predecessors in the form of a weaker villain and plot, and the obvious issues that come with a non-canon film.

The film deals with the emergence of a mad scientist, now only a brain in a jar, and his attempts to take over the body of 'The World's Strongest'., and Goku and ... co's attempts to defeat him. The plot isn't particularly interesting at all, and the set-up doesn't really make any sense when you really think about it (How did Wheelo put himself in a jar, and build the bio-weapons if he was trapped?) if I'm being honest. The only real appeal for this film are the fights are the general art direction. The design of his bio-weapons, at least the unique ones, are all right at best, having a couple of fun abilities across them. I'm aslo grateful for the fact that the villain actually backs up how dangerous they really are to the heroes - the power of the bio-weapons are potent, and seeing the results of Wheelo testing his weapons on an entire town is a pretty surprising display of carnage in a Dragon Ball property. He's not the most memorable villain I've ever seen, but his entire persona and power-up are enough to make him pretty entertaining to watch. Also, even if it's absoloutly non-canon, there is no way to reconicle the plot of this with the main storyline of Dragon Ball - with what we know what has already happened, it just can't make sense, which I thought was more funny then anything else.

As with it's predecessor, I was surprised how much I enjoyed the setting of World's Strongest - the futuristic fortress of Wheelo's base looks really fun, if utterly out of place in the Dragon Ball world. It's also nice to expand the world a little more - I don't think, at this point, we'd ever seen the cast in the Arctic areas of the planet before. Additionally, Wheelo's entire atmosphere, at least in the dub, is pretty unnerving, especially as he watched everything going on in the fortress via 2001 A Space Odyssey inspired cameras. Though I have to say, whilst Wheelo's brain coupled with his voice are somewhat intimidating - why the heck is his brain so big? It looks at least five times the size of a human brain, which is just kind of insane. The film also takes a little too long to get anywhere, since he have to suffer through the existence of Oolong and another one of Gohan's weird fantasises.

Easily the strongest aspect of the film, as it should be, are the fight scenes. We were still at a part in the power creep of the franchise where a lot of actual martial arts techniques are actually used. I got pretty excited to see Master Roshi dish out some pretty sick moves, and the fight against the bio-weapons are pretty tense, as the combos pulled out in Goku, Gohan and Krillin's fight against them are pretty brutal, which is sold by the pretty chilling screams from the cast. Though, the film does suffer from the Dragon Ball formula of an opponent being rapidly defeated after a sudden power-up, which whilst something I find really frustrating, makes sense due to the reduced runtime of the film making this equivalent of a three episode arc. The artstyle, still using the older look of early DBZ, looks wonderful adapted on the big screen once again, and is one of the best aspects of the film. For the most part, the animation looks great - fights are fluid, and even a lot of the comedic touches they blend into the fights look great just from how hilarious they look, like Goku on the ice.

It's good to see most the characters get a moment of two to shine in this film - even Master Roshi, which is always exciting to see dish out a few of his old man moves, even for a moment. Some of my major issues of this film really come down, though, to how badly they use some other characters - Bulma is little more then a chained up, screaming, damsel in distress, and Krillian doesn't do one useful thing in this film beside being a target for Wheelo's subordinate. Sure, they even point this out in the film, but it's really disappointing to see a legitemently great character be used little more then a joke. Honestly, when it comes to these films, Krillin is more Yamcha then Yamcha.

In the early days of Dragon Ball Z, Gohan's latent power is used frequently as a deus ex machina to quickly solve or ease a situation, but here I felt it was actually used well without utterly overpowering the enemy for no real reason. The way the film ends is satisfying enough, with everyone pitching in, but honestly I couldn't help but be a little disappointed that Goku's really the only one to pull the win from under Wheelo's feet, but I suppose you could argue the way Goku does it makes it a team effort. Honestly, it's kind of sad the most interesting techniques in the film come from the opponents, but it's still pretty exciting to see Goku whip out Kaioken in a time before Super Saiyan utterly outstripped it.

The World's Strongest is a perfect serviceable, non-canon entry in the Dragon Ball series. It has a mediocre, yet pretty impressive villain, and a really fun setting that sets it apart from other entires in the franchise. It's not something you'll be thinking about a week after you watched it, but for what it is, it's a solid hour long ride you should watch if you just want more Dragon Ball Z in your life, and if that's your desire, World's Strongest will that desire swimmingly.

Dragon Ball Z movie 2 The world's strongest is about an evil scientist Dr. Wheelo of whom only the brain is left wanting to transfer his mind on the body of the worlds strongest.

Like most Dragon Ball Z movies, this one can't fit into the main timeline but can be watched after finishing the Saiyan Saga. Like many others, it uses homages to recently used techniques of the most recent arc.
The appeal of the movie is also that this is the only time Master Roshi is involved in fighting in the Z era since he retired in the original Dragon Ball from fighting since the ... younger generation all surpassed him. But because the antagonist still believes that Roshi is the world strongest, he ended up being involved giving them a reality call when that turns out not to be the case.

The henchmen in this movie also possess unique powers and giving visually amazing fighting scenes where Goku has to use a move for different reasons to overcome these powers.

The main cast of characters behave as they do normally. Gohan struggles with his needs and wants meaning his studies or spending time with Piccolo. That being a trend in the movies continuities of Dragon Ball. Krillin would usually help him out in combat while Piccolo starting the tradition of coming to save Gohan from whatever.
Goku is his generic heroic self which is typical in DBZ movies.
Dr. Wheelo is very analytic and doesn't recklessly rush into action unlike his assistant Dr. Kochin who is a close friend who did a mistake that cost his life despite Wheelo's warning.

The movie struggles to stand on its own. While Dr. Wheelo has a unique goal, he is still a Dragon Ball Z villain who does what most Dragon Ball Z villains do when cornered. Another thing is that the movie doesn't have any grandiose moment in the final. The fights are good but nothing feels amazing enough to go back and rewatch it since most of the best scenes are homages. Even the Student-Mentor Kamehameha isn't remembered well by fans which is unique to this movie.
There is also the confusing part with timeline placement. While DBZ movies are considered their own story far removed from the main plot since they can't fit in, there are references made directly about stuff that happened in the anime which can confuse viewers.
Lastly how Wheelo is defeated is similar to how many other movie characters get defeated which can't be used against the movie since it is the first time it happens but doesn't make it any better.

Overall to get most out of this movie, you need to watch it before the movies that come after it since it will end up feeling repetitive. It is still a good movie and if you haven't you should give it a shot.

It's at this point evident to me, that some franchises are just designed to be utter dissapointments. Land Before Time - crap. Pokemon, after third generation - embarassing and crap. DBZ, and this movie - do you want me to get crucified?!

This time, dragon testicles are gathered together in this fonderous, magical ceremony... of melting off ice! After that... eh... Bulma gets harrased... and that old goote gets abducted by those uglier saibamen... and Bulma's there too, in chains... and then fighting ensues... and some more fighting... Piccohan-fans will get something to work with... some evil lair will get obliterated to the ground, ad ... something other about that brain-in-a-jar- guy who wants a body... to have sex with a Bulma, prehaps. I don't know - this story's already remainding me of those stupid rambles that my talking blue fairy brother used to tell me, when he was drunk!

If the overall score doesn't say anything to you, then I'm gonna just say it... I hate this movie. I really do - it's DBZ, so no surprises there. But why is it, exactly? Well, to put it bluntly, this movie illustrates perfectly my two favourite allegories, of bad animes, which are The Shitpie-anime, and Fanboy porn- anime! You know? It looks like a delicious pie, smells like it, and others around it say it's really good, but when you taste it, it's just mouthful of shit! And instead of story, there's just wanking, and shouting, with cheesy dialog, and nothing else! And this pie really burned my mouth quite a lot, since I actually thought, that I would be pleasantly surprised about this movie, considering how subtly it starts! Nothing groundbreaking, but still.. decent enough, for a DBZ movie. Actually... I was looking for something similar to a Pokemon 3- movie, with Gohan struggling to loose everything he loves, and cares for, while the villains having their own personal, and well-thought out plans, morals and reasons, that will force us to think, what live really is worth, how far science should really go, considering said human live, and how much can one small child actually accomplish alone, to overcome his fears, doubts, and... Yeah. I was hoping for too much, wasn't I?

The story would have actually been kinda semi-decent, if this was one of those noterous filler episodes, that most of us would just skip anyway... to get waster into the wanking... fighting, and loose all that unneede story-shite in the process. This story could have easily been told in less, than 20 minutes - 40, if we wan't to be stupid about it! With a story so small, stupid and thin, like this one, is no wonder that they needed all that meaningless and pointless fighting, in order to give this movie over 40 minutes-long runingtime - it's not like we can muster out any kinda actual story out of this, now can't we?! Instead of all this fighting and exposition, why not give us more detail about, oh, I don't know... the relationship, between Gohan and Piccolo - one friendship, almost as shrouded in darkness considering plausibility, like Bulma and Vegeta - the fragility of humanlive, and struggles between science and morals around it, or our villain... in a jar? No, in a mecha-costume! What?! How?! Why?! No, wait... I want to learn more about this guy! Is he totally insane-in-a-membrain- kinda villain, or is he just chaotic-neutral?! In a TFS parody, he was given actual personality, morals and will to just be normal human being again, with somewhat happy ending! Is none of that in here... at all?! Why you want to first control the world, with your mind, and then destroy it, like a psychotic manchild, who lost his lolligun?! Aren't you supposed to be the first actually intelligent - and therefore more conpitent - villain, in the whole franchise, with plans, means, and capability to count down the characters of pi?! Why would you want a human body, that'll age and break, if you're already a giant brain, in the almost-indestructible robot-suit, willing to take over the world?! Aren't you gonna tell us anything, about youself, that all of this exposition couldn't already tell us?! No? Nothing? Kay!

In conclusion... the story is dumb. The villain is dumb. The premise is almost decent, but the way, they executed it, was also dumb. This movie is... dumb. Just... dumb. Just as yours truly could expect, from such a dissapointing franchise, called DBZ. I can still see, why the fans of the franchise, would still like this movie, despite that it - once again - takes, more than offers. It's simple, so you won't get confused. It offers nothing to think about, so you don't need to... think about you're own morals, or sides on the story, considering the premise. The story-part of the movie is very short - about 15 minutes - and the rest of 45 minutes, is used some fighting, and 2nd-grader- level dialog - much like the tv-series - so you don't need to know, what's going on, or why are they fighting... again. And again. And again.

This is a perfect movie, for fans to wank on, and I won't take it as anything else, but that - a porn, with a dissapointing climax. I will never see it again, I will pretend for the rest of my life that I never did, and for now on, I'm gonna enjoy the glorious parody even more, than one hour ago.

"Hey Gohan, let's not tell anyone about evil guys, who just kicked Piccolo butt just to extend this movie and make it a disgraceful replica of Goku and Vegeta fight". I did not expect The World's Strongest to be a low budget replica of Saiyan saga, and I come out pretty angry after watching it.

The World's Strongest is a non-canon movie (luckily) meaning it's anime original, and these events do not happen in DBZ manga. Without further ado, let's get into this movie.

1, Fights ... with the minions were pretty much average entertaining, but nothing special, but there was one thing that will get attention in negatives.

My negatives from TWS:
1, This movie starts being a joke, when Oolong for some reason (movie length extension) wants Gohan to remain silent about some old guy using Dragon Balls in F***ing ANTARCTICA followed by bad guys beating Piccolo. Nope, this isn't anything to be concerned about.
2, Gohan drugged sequence and yes, I am fully aware he's not on drugs, but since the last movie had a similar singing thing, I am calling this lazy and worse reskin of Gohan scene from Garlic jr. movie.
3, Scientist wants to do an evil thing, destroy the world, because people laughed at him and called him eccentric cliche.
4, Are you telling me that two doctors could create such a colossal laboratory with all its features, and they were able to run it on its own for more than 50 years? Make them an organization then and not just two old robots.
5, Piccolo, who fought Saiyans for some reason, isn't concentrating whenever he sees Gohan or whenever the plot demands it. Same with Roshi when he lets villain minions capture Bulma. Are you telling me that the world best martial artists with extensive ki sensing training cannot tell when their opponent is still in fighting condition and why our characters in some cases cannot DOOOODGE (Team Four Star reference)?
6, Fight between Goku and Uiro is a disgraceful joke to the Saiyan saga. This movie did a great job to stomp every fantastic aspect from S saga and makes it mediocre and emotionless nonsense of fight. Kaio-ken times 4, Genki Dama (spirit bomb), both techniques had deep emotional and consequential value behind them in Saiyan saga, well this movie doesn't care.

Let's summer this up: This movie takes fantastic features of the Saiyan saga and replicates them so disgracefully. The movie setup is a joke. Oolong not telling about an old guy using Dragon Balls in ANTARCTICA bad guys appearing is a dumb excuse for this movie to be 1 hour long. If I were to rank it just from my feelings about this movie, it gets 2/10, maybe even 1/10. But if I somehow watched it before DBZ, I would probably like it to some degree, but it wouldn't stand the test against Saiyan saga.

Final Ranking: Dragon Ball Z Movie 2: The World's Strongest earns 4/10, surprised after all my negatives and toxic comments? How to put it, this movie isn't the worst. Its only fault was the effort to replicate one of the greatest moments in DBZ. Of course, it was going to fail miserably. If we put that aside TWS is a mediocre movie with some good moments.

OK, so this one is almost a scene-for-scene rehash of the previous Dragon Ball Z movie, but with a fancier sci-fi gloss and a more interesting setup. Sadly, when I mentioned in my last review that the 40 minute first movie was the perfect length? It still applies, and World's Strongest feels a good ten or fifteen minutes longer than it needed to be. The Genki Dama stuff is always kind of a bore in this series, but here in a movie it was especially so.

Still, some of the fights are really good, where Goku wasn't able to instantly overpower his foes and got beaten ... around a little bit. I like that. You can't go wrong if you're looking for lightweight action entertainment.

Also, World's Strongest, continuity-wise, is in even MORE of an impossible situation. There is no conceivable way to fit this move into the events of the TV show, namely because there ain't no point where Goku and Piccolo are both alive at once when this could take place. However, the weirdest part of them all is that later on in the show, and this was NOT cut out of the Dragon Ball Kai remake, Gohan has a flashback to his failures as a kid, and getting beaten up by one of the mooks here is one of them. It was quite bizarre seeing as the movie otherwise goes unmentioned in any other material.

While the premise of the movie, to fight the worlds strongest, is quite interesting. In a clever way giving light to a supporting character, who hasn't had a good fight since the King Piccolo Saga. This movie turns out to be just another scream until the enemy dies kind of thing. This story would have fit much better at the end of Dragon Ball (the original series) and not after Goku attained the Kaioken, but hey this movie is not canon.
Dr. Wheelo is a interesting concept, but every other villain in this movie is quite stupid in design and originality. They even turned a familiar ... 'good' character against the good guys, because they didn't know how to write a threat in this movie. Overall this movie is pretty mediocre, which is the case with a lot of DBZ movies.
