30-sai made Doutei dato Mahoutsukai ni Nareru Rashii

When mundane office worker Kiyoshi Adachi turns 30 years old, he discovers that he has gained the ability to read minds due simply to remaining a virgin for his entire life. The caveat, however, is that he must make physical contact with a person to know what they are thinking about. Adachi believes there is no real use for this power until he accidentally hears the thoughts of his coworker, Yuuichi Kurosawa.

Charismatic and dependable, Kurosawa is the star of Adachi's team at work, earning praise and admiration from everyone at the office. But deep within, Kurosawa harbors an intense one-sided crush for the gloomy Adachi—a fact that Adachi only learns because of his ability, and knowledge he tries to respectfully disregard. As Kurosawa treats Adachi with kindness and affection he has never experienced before, Adachi finds it increasingly difficult to ignore his coworker's genuine advances.

This gets a 8.5-9 out of 10 for me, very cute and fun romance anime. Love to see a hashtag unproblematic BL anime too lmao. I maybe enjoyed the secondary relationship a little more than the primary and the animation can be a little off at times, some weird poses and I guess "off model" stuff but honestly isn't that just what BL should be like. Loved the audience insert fujo secretary also!

It's not my favourite romance or comedy anime but it does both well and as an LGBT person it's nice to see some good BL out there getting attention for the right reasons, ... like don't get me wrong we will eat the trash too sometimes but this is cute, fun and silly. Big Recommend!

I don't usually write reviews for things I love but this show touched me. It did romance so perfectly that I have to let it out. It has wonderful pacing and shows a realistic and beautiful romance, conflicts and all. For such a silly premise the writers did a wonderful job.

The couple are really fun to root for. I laughed, smiled and cried with the characters. It showed the joy of falling in love, portrayed in such a realistic and beautiful way that I yearned for that experience again myself. I loved how about half of the anime was them being together, very much a ... nice change of pace from most romance animes. Plus, oh my goodness they were able to put sexual intimacy in it in a way that felt like a real extension of love rather than fan service. I feel like that is rare nowadays, despite being so much better in my opinion.

The conflicts aren't upsetting and don't last long, making this show very easy to watch. They don't rely on the miscommunication trope to advance the plot, which is refreshing. Plus, they avoided anything nonconsensual which unfortunately I've found is all too common in wlw and mlm animes. I am pissed off that is not the bare minimum but it's such a relief to see. Also, it isn't queerbaiting. This shit is very much gay and clear about it.

I'd encourage anyone looking for a comfy romance to give this a watch, it's awesome <3

Mixed Feelings

Yes, yes, this anime does have its fluffy, lovey-dovey couples, no problematic content, whatever. Not that it needs to be barren of problematic content to be considered a good story. Anyways, I personally enjoyed this anime for a few reasons, but it's not without its problems.

Let's just put it up front that I'd give 10 stars for one particular supporting character who was an absolute riot throughout the series. They're the very embodiment of 'don't judge a book by its cover', which makes every interaction with Adachi absolutely hilarious to watch. So there's your comedy.

One part of the story that might not have been ... discussed in other reviews is how the anime slowly takes the concept of mind-reading and flips it on its head. Cherry Magic slowly deconstructs this super-power, revealing its pitfalls through the eyes of the characters. Honestly, if it had been just the beginning, this anime would have received a much lower rating from me, but I really like the problems that came along with the second half. It was a unique take on a hackneyed cliche.

That's not to say this anime is without its problems. We're given one couple in the beginning of the series, but somehow end up with two by the end. It's a very 'Junjou Romantica' approach, but unlike Junjou Romantica, which gives each of the three couples similar amounts of screen time (more or less), it's more like a 3:1 ratio between the first couple and the second. The transitions between the couples takes a hit, too, and while the main couple gets away with it by the skin of its teeth, the side couple takes a hit for it. Its much easier to forget Tsuge and Minato than Adachi and Kurosawa. Tsuge has been both Adachi's support as well as the lead of his own romance, but Minato leaves much to be desired.

There's also a lot of cringeworthy moments in the anime, both having to do with mind-reading powers and just the natural 'non-normie' charm of Tsuge and Adachi. And then there's the animation, which, along with the telepathic scenes, was the most cringeworthy part of it all. For every significant thought the characters have, the viewers are unfortunate enough to have to sit through 15-30 seconds of stilled frames as we listen to whatever character think whatever life-changing thought they're having and how it impacts Adachi (or Tsuge). If this happened every so often it wouldn't be a problem, but it happens every. Single. Episode. It's awkward, and it takes the enjoyment away. I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks so.

It's with these praises and complaints in mind that I can't fully recommend it, but still say that I enjoyed it very much. There's no such thing as a 'perfect' anime, sure, but the problems really do weigh a lot on the viewers enjoyment of the anime, and should definitely be taken into consideration when deciding whether to watch it.
