Decided to make a stack for the OVAs and movies you used to be able to find on Blockbuster shelves or on late-night TV anime blocks right before infomercials or softcore porn. Behold, hyper-violence, bad animation, paranoid politics, incomprehensible writing, awful dubs, gratuitous nudity, and that special something that makes bad things great sometimes.

Bonus final row dedicated to Yoshiaki Kawaijiri, the man, the myth, the legend.

List of pre 2000's isekai anime

I remember going to the video store, browsing the shelves, and picking out a movie based on the box art alone. I'd look at the front, I'd look at the back, and more often than not I'd put it back on the shelf. Occasionally there'd be something like Ghost in the Shell or Ninja Scroll, and I knew I just had to rent it, or more accurately get my parents to rent it.

This isn't just a list of movies that were available on VHS at my local video store, this is also a list of movies that I would have rented had they been there. They have box art and synopsis appeal, regardless of the reality contained within.

This is my virtual VHS store, where we say Japanimation and we don't stock TV shows unless they're only a few episodes long. I hope you like violence and nudity. Things here also generally skew older, keeping with the VHS theme.

shows that aren't parodies yet still can't really exist in the realm of being taken seriously due to whatever tonal/plot elements that make you go "fkng what???? lmao"

usually this makes them either really funny or really good. or both. or sometimes neither. always confused to some extent tho.

I've only put in anime that made me ironically laugh while I watched it. There's anime such as Ex-Arm that were funny at first, but they also became a pain to watch as the series progresses. I still included it as the first few episodes are unintentionally hilarious. The list is organized from highest to lowest MAL average just to show how it gradually gets worse in quality.

Also, please DM me suggestions to add to this list too, if you have some! Tsui no Sora is excluded for being an h-anime, but it meets the criteria elsewise.

This is stack containing the generic isekai anime that define everything that haters think what are Sword Art Online anime series about. They literally have every flaw and problem what SAO haters think that SAO does have. If you don't watch any of them before you watch SAO,you will have wrong impressions and mistake SAO characters as bad characters.

In this stack you will find all isekai anime, including OVAs, ONAs, specials and movies. I included not yet aired ones too. This stacks starts with anime from 1983 onwards, so there are some oldies in here.
