Taiho Shichau zo

You're Under Arrest is a pretty solid show. Decent characters, beautiful animation, excellent voice acting and solid music. Sadly its all wrapped around a rather thin and basic plot. The characters are strong, but not particularly memorable or original. They work for what the stories demand of them but overall. Its just lacking anything that makes it stand out.

So why is it so highly rated.
I just, had a lot of fun watching it. If you slog through all four episodes back to back that is the wrong way to do it. Once a week, in the evening with a friend or two. Take ... it as a relaxed, social experience not something to take seriously.

This anime is an example of how good cinematography can carry a show with a mediocre story.

In this one, the plot is barely there, nothing to write home about. But boy, the then state-of-art animation, absolutely stunning shots, flavourful sound design, the retro vibes... If you give this show a chance, it will suck you in with both the atmosphere of the more calm scenes and the spectacle of the breathtaking action. This is what the golden era of Japanese animation looks like. One might even say that the show is overproduced for the content it has to provide. My recommendation is simple: feast ... your eyes and ears and turn your brain off. It's just a silly, short show and it's not pretending to be anything else.

If you're looking for a pleasant experience to just relax and have some fun, you'll enjoy this show. If you're looking for a sophisticated story with nuanced writing, better skip this one.

I'm going to go against the grain a bit here and admit that I did not enjoy this one in the least. The first episode seemed promising but it kind of never lived up to it.
The characters were all bland cookie cutter tropes. The plots focused way to much on a love story between two of the cops that wasn't even well written or well implemented. And while the animation was wonderful, the art it's self was bland and lifeless. In the end I had a very hard time caring about these under developed characters and their daily lives.
Maybe I'm being ... too harsh on this show, but it's from Studio Deen, who's output is usually of a much higher standard than this and on top of that already gave us the very similar and much better made Patlabor.
