Explicitly Cannon Couples and Hard Subtext Shows. Subtext shows listed here have substantial content and not just a little bit of teasing here and there. Subtext can also be an unspoken focal point of the series. These are shows I can actually recommend and like enough to suggest checking out.

-some popular shows in here simply worth mentioning because it would be criminal not to mention them.

-ongoing list

The title should, this time, be entirely explanatory. Idols, as all are (or should be) familiar with, are musical groups consisting mainly of vocalists and dancers, with excessive focus put into the performers as personalities. Often care is taken to have (or at the very least, present as) a wide range of different personalities, so as to appeal to an equally wide audience and aid in creating more unique music for the group.

Typically, Idol anime follow one or more of these groups as they aim for stardom, with a variety of different conditions depending on the premise. Some, though, take a far different approach, standing out as particularly notable, be that for better or worse.

Listed are entries given the theme tag "Idols," but whose content differs from what one would expect from the genre. Specifically, if either A) the aims of the Idols in the shows differ from simply acquiring popularity or winning a contest, or B) if the route through which the Idols seek those goals heavily involve something other than simply singing.

Shows where the Idols are themselves the "not very Idol-y things" (e.g, Zombieland Saga) are not shown, as their actual exploits are more in line with what the genre is known for. Some shows that are not tagged as "Idols" but otherwise fulfil the conditions laid out (e.g, Visual Prison) are shown, out of the curator's discretion. Sequels are not listed for brevity.

Entries in this list may include the following:
1. Awesome action
2. Great music
3. Very thick yuri subtext
4. Nana Mizuki

I highly recommend the Nanoha series; Symphogear is basically a spiritual sequel to it.
Also, feel free to recommend more series to add to this collection, I'm always looking for more! Just comment on my Profile or something.
If you're into manga, try "Hero-san to Moto Onna Kanbu-san"! Sadly I can't change the type of stack after publishing it lol.

This is the third part of a collection of articles where I aim to explore the evolution of anime related music. This part of the list attempts to collect a list of most iconic performances on the "Idol Age" of anime music.

The term "Idol Age" used in this list refers to a phase after the "New Age" phase. During this phase there started being more "idol songs" that that essentially were "tied" to the product itself utilising "a culmination point" relating the performance into a singular entity also known as "idol". This was an interesting approach for many as it opened a new model on how to sell these products to the market.

The theme songs essentially dropped essentially all connections to the series demonstrated by their lyrics, the emotion invoked by the song and the spirit related to the series. Essentially the song and the performance are presented as a related product to the entity that serves as the culmination point relating to these products also known as "idol".

I will write my thoughts on each of the entries on this list to further explain why I think the series and the theme songs included as a combined package have attained "iconic" status when it comes to the scene of "Idol Age" anime music in contrast to the "Anime Songs" and the "New Age". I will also give a score related on how well "the culmination" and the "product" perform parallel to each other while establishing the "idol" itself as a product. The series are ordered based on that score.

The term "iconic" in this list is defined by the popularity and how deeply established the culmination and the elements of the performance relating to the idea of "idol" being established as a product are in addition of them being supposedly intertwined with the series as a whole experience.
