The magical girl genre often involves girls forming close bonds with each other. Because of this, a lot of magical girl shows also have yuri subtext, and some take it beyond subtext.

If you are a fan of singers, music, musical instruments and the world of the spectacle, I can recommend these animes. Apart from having good OST, its main themes are music, singing and musical instruments, with some drama included.

Anime that may look like they have things like yuri undertones and yuri scenes or elements, but are not yuri or tagged yuri anime.

Magical girl anime can be divided into 2 camps:

morning time magical girl: shows which air in the morning targetted at children (doremi, card captor sakura, etc)

late night magical girl: shows which air in the evening or late at night, targeted at adults.

Within those late night anime, some are simply raunchy comedy parodies, some are grimdark edgy interpretations, and some are what I would class as "otaku oriented magical girl", ie, shows which earnestly create a magical girl story line but targetted at otaku.

what counts in this final category is subjective, as the lines between types are blurry, so some of these items may fall somewhat into the grimdark or raunchy comedy categories, but here I try to list everything I think classifies as otaku oriented magical girl anime.
