Hmm, catchy OP song. I think I like the ED better though but the OP song is great as well.

Pretty solid episode establishing some of the personalities of the main leads. Arslan has some interesting relationships with the others such as Daryun. Really liked the way the episode crafted the military affairs and actual combat. I'm definitely getting bit of Kingdom vibes.

Shit got real! Although right now, I want to see Arslan's swordsmanship improve a bit. Nice kill still though. I hope he realizes the reality of war. Daryun made a good impression imo for this role imo.

The Op is okay and I liked how this episode build up a lot of things and showed some of the characters and who/how they are.I loved the military part in the novel and they did a solid job here aswell.Nice trap and holy shit this also looked kinda epic.
Arslan has still a long way to go,but the kill was nice.Really liking the ending theme song aswell.
Good episode 3/5

Betrayer amongst the ranks. I sorta thought as much as soon as that guy left at the start after noticing the bird was wet. I like the ED more than the OP. Arslan feeling the pain after losing so many people. That was a nice trap though.

Good episode, maybe a tad weaker than the previous one, but very good.

The battle looked amazing, especially that fire scene. The King should have listened to Daryun but rarely Kings are not arrogant.

I like the direction story is going.

The opening isn't as godlike as the ending, but it's one of those where you get used to it in time and come to love it.

First half was kinda boring but the second half where the battles took place is where shit went down. Their army lost plenty of men from falling to the trap literally. Fell to an oil pit and were all set ablaze....

One of the cavalry captains was a traitor. Arslan couldn't pull himself together after losing countless lives of his soldiers and then there's a traitor in front of him to top it off, but then Daryun arrives just in time for the "big damn hero" moment!

Well that was just glorious. It was a massacre and the King should've listened to Dayrun.

I'm guessing the other two kids are dead too...sucks. But Arslan managed to hold on so he's not as weak as he thinks he is.

Can't wait for next week!

dont really like the OP but the ED is not bad.

Seems like the king has barely any understanding of war tactics. If something looks like a trap and a loyal captain tells you it might be a trap you should even consider it being a trap but hell no lets send all those soldiers into that obvious trap so they can die a horrible death!

Also the way Kharlan reacted to the what Arslan said about the feathers of Azrael being damp gave him away instantly.

abit boring when shit is so obvious from the beginning.

Not a fan of the OP at all.

Shit that trap was awesome. I like Daryun. He's levelheaded unlike the king who is arrogant. Loving where this anime is headed

Except this isn't a shoujo, and I think this is much better than akatsuki no yona. Actually this show is nothing like Yona

The opening...the damn opening! It's strange when you look more forward to a song that to an episode. Lol the first five minutes I was like "where is my opening? where is Uverworld? where? c'mon!" I don't even remember how many times I played it before actually watching the episode And I don't believe that's a good thing.

Episode was meh, but the oil part was... woah! 3/5

Arslan is atually good with the sword that took me by surprise

It's actually the other way around. Yona begun being written in 2009, whereas Yoshiki Tanaka started writing Arslan in 1986 and the books are still ongoing (14 volumes last I checked).

The director/production team did a really good conveying the atmosphere of dread/confusion of this battle. I found the CGI pretty distracting in the first episode, but I'm quickly getting used to it.

Lastly, the score this show has just drives the point home to me of the kind of users that MAL has. This has a score of 7.59 whereas Nisekoi: has 8.27. I'm at a loss for words.

Daryun is gonna make this anime for me, i can tell. Altho so far there are plenty other aspects that are getting me interested as well. That trap laid out was nasty but im kind of glad cos the king was way to cocky imo

Also Arslan is like Edward Elric mix with Allen Walker, its great.

Did not expect Uverworld for the OP, though both ED and OP are decent.

Pacing was kinda fast for a war plotline but I guess it's about Arslan's future journey and development that matters.

The artstyle is really turning me off in this series. And why can no one draw/animate horses with a tv budget? Oh right, no one cares.

Plotwise the massacre felt forced. You'd think if the king had lead an undefeated army for decades he'd actually know how to do this stuff *sigh* Not that Pars' enemies seem to be much smarter with the traitor and his footsoldiers not having any archers around while taking all the time in the world to kill one kid.

Can it be called a cliffhanger if we know what's going to happen?

Interesting, though the pre-modern warfare & tactics fan within me screams 'bullshit' at the trap. Logistically, digging such a moat quickly, dumping enough oil and hiding/building those siege towers, ranges from simply impossible to highly unlikely/inefficient compared to the effort required.

Nevertheless, something similar (and probably much more effective even) could have been pulled off with caltrops, wooden spikes, pike infantry, smaller (realistically dig-able within a day) moats etc. Provided of course that they had the wood... and a total dumb-ass enemy commander, who commits to a massed charge in a deep fog, without prior scouting. Hereditary forms of government are often 'blessed' with leaders happily committing such blunders, so no issue there.

I guess flashy and exciting (though the alternative need not be any less so) trumps 'realism'. Anyways, how does this fight play out in the source?

Obviously this is just the prelude for the story proper, so none of this matters that much, the kingdom must fall, so it shall...
