The mushrooms on shijimas head are a representation of her depression after locking herself in her bedroom for the past two years.

Tokyo Kaido takes place in a mental ward full of... you guessed it. Mental patients. Each patient struggles with a different issue, and seeing the characters interact with one another and go about their daily lives is very interesting, and the representation there is amazing.

An autobiographical manga about a woman coming to terms with her sexual orientation and the world around her. The writer tells us of her struggles with depression, self harm, eating disorders and anxiety in a nice and relatable story about coming to terms with one's identity.

A very dark autobiographical manga about a woman's traumatic childhood and extreme fear of men. The writer talks about her trauma with some beautifully drawn imagery. This is a more niche example of mental illness, and I think this is one of the few manga here I'd advise a content warning on due to the nature of this manga.
