Following the collapse of civilization after a worldwide nuclear war in the year XXXX A.D., demons have begun to emerge. The demon summoning warriors Jin, Jack, and Ayame summon demons to help protect people in their hunt for paradise.

Six months ago, Karukozaka High School had vanished into the Underworld. Upon its reemergence, all 560 students and 28 faculty members remained missing. Treated as a bizarre case of mass disappearance, the entire ordeal was forgotten, but nobody noticed when two of the students had returned. These students are Nobu—a boy with an uncanny ability to sniff out demons—and Yumi Shirakawa. Wishing to move on from the trauma, Nobu and Yumi transfer to different schools and lose contact with each other, but they both remain vigilant of demonic activity. Unfortunately, the portal to the Underworld resurfaces at the location of their former school, causing two unique factions to seek out survivors of the Karukozaka incident. The Ring of Gaea seeks to enact martial law within Tokyo in order to contain the demonic threat. On the other side, the Order of Messiah sees Nobu and Yumi as threats to the new world they wish to establish. When his mother is killed in front of his eyes by a demon, Nobu realizes that he cannot run away from confronting his demon-infested past. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

The story follows high school student Shin Managi who, after visiting his teacher in a hospital, witnesses the end of the world. After this mysterious event he is granted supernatural powers, becoming half-demon and is able to recruit other demons to aid him.

The Eastern Kingdom of Mikado is a relatively tranquil kingdom, where the affluent Luxurors and poor Casualries exist within a caste system. Maintaining peace and defending its citizens from the demon threat is the samurai class, composed of individuals from both Luxuror and Casualry backgrounds. One such samurai is a young Luxuror-born boy named Jonathan. From a young age, Jonathan has always dreamed of joining the order in hopes of being able to protect and serve his empire. Training beside him every day is Asuma, a young Casualry orphan. Driven by the death of his parents at the hands of demons, Asuma strives to become a samurai and eradicate them from their world. After a demonic incident occurs during one of their sparring sessions, Jonathan and Asuma are separated from each other until the day of the samurai prentice exam, 10 years later. The time apart has created a rift between the two former friends and causes them to no longer see eye-to-eye. Shortly after the exam, the two boys are appalled to learn that samurai must utilize demons in order to effectively defend the people of the kingdom. While Asuma vehemently refuses to make any deal with the enemy, Jonathan's devotion to his beliefs wavers as he forms an unlikely partnership with a demon named Al. In the Gregorian year of 1492, the people of the Eastern Kingdom of Mikado live peacefully in a social caste system between the wealthy Luxurors and underprivileged Casualries. In the empire, there are samurai, composed of both classes, who protect the Mikado citizens from the threat of demons. Among the new samurai recruits is a hot-headed Casualry boy named Walter and his childhood friend Gina. With a frequent habit of getting himself into sticky situations, Walter is constantly bailed out by Gina. One night, Gina arrives to stop Walter from confronting a strong demon, only for the two to get ambushed and dragged into a demon domain. Though they survive the attack and escape with minimal injuries, Walter soon feels unwell. However, no later is he sent on a new mission to investigate the appearance of "literature" that turns people into demons, and Walter's symptoms worsen as he begins to question the morality of his actions as a samurai. Unable to resist the allure of the forbidden "literature," Walter breaks into the Monastery's vault to read the confiscated book. Nobu is just an ordinary high school student messing around with a floppy disk on the school computer when a demon shoots out of the screen and kills his two friends in front of his eyes. Terrified, he runs out of the room to search for his teacher, only to run into classmate Yumi Shirakawa instead. As they try to make sense of the situation, the pair stumble upon their science teacher using hypnosis to convert students into demons! Claiming to work for the "God Emperor," their teacher begins to target Nobu and Yumi with the intent of killing them both for getting in his way. Trapped within the confines of the school, Nobu tinkers with the floppy disk and discovers that there is a demon summoning program on it. Hato no Senki tells the story of a young man named Hato Yokoyama that plays a game called DDS-NET in which players can fight against demons. He encounters a Pixie being attacked by other demons and protects her. When the game prompts him to kill her to receive an item, he refuses and discovers a strange symbol has appeared on his hand. This symbol teleports him to an area where he meets a young girl that Hato assumes to be an NPC. Cu Chulainn appears addressing the girl as princess and assumes Hato is another demon. His demeanor changes when he discovers the icon on Hato's hand and explains that Hato is the Messiah. He asks Hato to become his ally in protecting the princess.

Schwarzwelt—a mysterious spatial phenomenon—has appeared over Antarctica and has the ability to dismantle all approaching objects at a molecular level. If left unchecked, the distortion will spell disaster for humanity as it will consume the world with its expansion. After exhausting all other options, an expedition group is put together to investigate the Schwarzwelt to uncover its mysteries and, hopefully, a way to stop it. Among the convoy is Jin—a member of one of the group's Strike Teams. Following the sudden crash landing of their ship, the Strike Teams mobilize to scope out the area within the Schwarzwelt. Using their "Demonica" suits, the team steps out into the strange, desolate landscape, only for their commander to be instantly decapitated by a mysterious creature. Shortly afterwards, the ship comes under attack by beings that their Demonicas analyze as various mythological demons. Trapped in this world where these otherworldly entities rule, Jin strikes a deal with a demon to get the remainder of the ship's crew out of the Schwarzwelt alive. As they begin their strange journey, he learns that it is not easy to work alongside the enemy when the crew refuses to cooperate with them all while the demons have their own agenda to fulfill. Ever since his mother passed away, first-year student Setsuna Kai swore to become stronger for her sake. Despite tireless daily training at his elementary school's kendo club, he still cannot defeat his rival and friend Mirai Kaname. However, on their everyday walk home from practice, an ominous black haze appears over Tokyo, blocking out the sky and plunging low temperatures, covering the city with crystal snow in the middle of summer. As Setsuna returns to his dark apartment, a child flies through the walls and hands him a wrapped box before taking his last breath in his arms. A demon, hellbent on taking his life, appears before Setsuna can process what had just occurred. At death's door, Setsuna's conviction to live awakens a power from deep within him, allowing him to summon a demon of his own. The Cerberus demon named Cool explains to Setsuna that he is one of the eight Devil Children who fought Hell and must now fight to save the world from destruction. Though he is vehemently opposed to accepting such an important responsibility, Setsuna's determination to surpass Mirai drives him to assume the position. The Communication Player (COMP) is a portable gaming system that can send and receive emails and surf the web. Kazuya Minegishi and his friends are each given a COMP by Kazuya's ominous hacker cousin, Naoya, who tells them they will need the devices to survive. Confused, the three think nothing of Naoya's warning and proceed to open up a strange "Laplace Email" in their inboxes. The email claims that someone will be brutally murdered, followed by a large explosion and a blackout that will take the entirety of Tokyo offline. They believe it to be a joke until the terrifying events unfold in front of their eyes. Shaken, the three soon learn that Naoya has loaded a demon summoning program onto their COMPs, which causes powerful demons to crawl out of their devices and attack them. When defeated, the same demons forge contracts with them and become their partners. Armed with the ability to summon demons and predict the future via email, the three friends fight to survive in their new, demon-infested reality. Nicaea, a dead face delivery website, reveals to its users a video of their friends' deaths. Most people sign up on the site for trivial reasons, including Io Nitta, Daichi Shijima, and Hiro Kageyama. As they return home from a mock entrance exam, the three students receive a message simultaneously from Nicaea, depicting their gruesome fate in the subway station. Despite being shaken by the email's contents, the trio disregards it until a subsequent earthquake and train derailment causes the premonition to come true. Swallowed by darkness, Io is posed with a simple question: does she want to die, or would she rather live? Presenting a will to live, Io wakes up in the rubble alongside Hiro, Daichi, and mysterious entities who ask the three of them to "manage" them properly. Soon, they find themselves in the custody of JP's—a mysterious defense force that only operates during a national state of emergency. After making contact with the otherworldly beings that attacked them earlier, the three students learn that they are now "devil summoners." The Earth is under attack by "Septentriones," strange creatures hellbent on destroying humanity. After being bullied and beaten by another student who was invoked by a female student, Nakajima uses his advanced computer skills to create the "Demon Summoning Program." He summons demons to attack the two, but he gets carried away and ultimately kills the two. Now sick with the power of the demon realm, Makai, in his hands, he summons the demon lord Loki. Realizing summoning such a powerful demon was a mistake, Nakajima sets out to reverse the problem he has created by any means.
