Recluse Characters Who Learn To Be More Expressive
Anime
Essentially protagonists who are emotionally detached, doesn't necessarily have to be for any reason, but as the story progresses they learn to understand their surroundings, their worth and ultimately learn to be more honest.
Some are a lot more subtle, more overt ones, but at the core these deliver their themes extremely well.
If you have any more recommendations just comment and I'll think about it. I made this in mind with finding more LN/manga like Oregairu/Haruhi Series/Onanie Master Kurosawa. But I haven't read more than like those 3 in this 'category' so I'll make do with anime.

Simple but unnerving. The soul of this story revolves around the whole dynamic and mystery, but the underlying plot progression of the 2 main guy and girl is established to end the series on a very good note.

A bit transience and unimaginative but the balance of likable characters, relatable struggles and gripping character relations are some of the greatest. This is much more overt and lacks the substance of the other subtle stories; yet it somehow becomes one of the best in emoting its complicated and pure characters.

Succinct, quiet, suffocating and outright agonizing. The best. Just watch, you will be in awe.

Consists of a lot more sweet and tangy flavor set in these short episodes. The story is itself is rather subdued and slow, yet a single impulsively spark grew to a fire in no time . Definitely the most wholesome anime I've watched and captures that beauty of nurture extremely well.

A music anime which isn't about music. Set in 60s the setting and struggles of our characters are embroiled in the complicated era of jazz and conflict. Pacing is way too fast but it simply works.

It unapologetically shows us the proclivity of what isolation can do to a persons values and beliefs. Although its fairly simple, the beauty yet timidness of the story starks brilliantly against the thematic beats of forgiveness and regrets. Despite seemingly both sounding similar, the story as a whole is much different to the personal progression of the characters.

Hikigaya is so often quoted as the smart and cynical guy and its always the biggest misconception. Seeing his long, arduous, sometimes frustrating growth, to a person learning his value is so believable and rewarding. Seeing he's not only honest with others, but his own faults and strengths. He actively puts his own happiness and cynical thoughts towards subservience. Yet knowing what he wants. The anime heavily underadapts the LN, its good but missing some of the greats of the LN.

Self-aware, emotional and compelling. The self realization of the 2 main characters bountiful connection are ingenious and painfully human. Through the chaotic world Gods, Espers, Time-travelers and Aliens. Disappearance tells a story one of tragedy and beauty. Limited animation yet it delivers when needed. One of the best LN -> Anime adaptations.

Every character is struggling with their detached and a-skewed beliefs. Maximizing its runtime to developing interpersonal relationships of various background, culminating in a bittersweet conclusion of a blind dream. Reflective and serene; Ping Pong is mature at the start, and idealistic by the end. As the show says "make your blood taste like iron."

Gorgeous animation mixed with a tenderness to the story makes this one of the best human yet sad stories. Although it is a but gimmicky with the blatant themes, it carries its emotional highs with the characters and setting. Definitely one of KyoAni's best.
