I really loved the first season, and in preparation for season 2 I rewatched it.

Boy did the first arc (first 3 episodes) of S2 absolutely kill all of my hype. It focused on one of the standout characters from S1, and attempted to tackle some very heavy topics.. But honestly they fumbled in the worst ways possible.

I was ready to drop it, but I pushed through one more episode and I'm so glad I did.

The rest of the season quickly overshadowed all of my initial concerns with some truly inspiring and genuinely excellent moments - artisticly, musically, and especially in character development.

I must give a particular shoutout to the inventiveness of various characters' special abilities and especially the creator's refusal to embrace power creep. It's very refreshing that the main characters can't simply breeze through every encounter, and that the show's adults are actually competent - without turning into AOT.

Still, it's hard not to feel like the lack of consistency is really starting to hurt the show, and I really hope in season 3 they can do a better job of balancing everything out.
