However I really think there's a certain kind of genius they took with this approach. The story is fluffy and fun, the MC is super nice and genuinely a good person, the characters all go on fun adventures and overcome all obstacles without too much worry.
Is it winning any oscars? No. But in a sea of loser/annoying/depressing MC's and anime with far too many "missed opportunities, this show is just a ton of fun to watch, turn your brain off and enjoy good things happening to good people.
Highly recommended to watch if you just want to have some fun
