Oh, and sorry for the wall of text.
Ah, the scores. That's where things get confusing as my own system is a little different - my average point is 6 rather than 5 and my "masterpiece" score is 11 rather than 10 (which is theoretically unachievable - and that's how it should be). A score of 7 is basically just a 6 by another number as it forces me to think much harder about the difference between "good" and "above average".
The main reason for the difference is because I compare things to the worst I've seen/read/played rather than the best, and I tend to focus on similar titles from multiple media rather than making general comparisons within anime alone. There's no point in comparing a super robot anime to something about farming (unless they're from the same studio), but you can quite easily make story comparisons between a space opera and something like Battlestar Galacitca (both versions).
Also, I don't consider any kind of score when I write as the idea of determining the "quality" of something throiugh a numerical value annoys me - which is why the reviews on my show's website never have scores. I only use them because MAL insists on them - even though they're contradictory to the purpose of "writing" a review.
Basically, if you write something then you want people to read it rather than check what score you gave it and go somewhere else.
I see you have an interest in horror anime, and probably just horror in general?!
Would you have any recommendations? c:
And you may not realize some of the things you'd actually like. Slice of life does seem boring but it brings you something you're not used to. I think the moment when I realized "this genre is totally worth it" is after watching "Toradora!". Maybe you should give that a shot?
