I loathed Pike. LOOOOATHED. He was an awesome character to be hated though, so his creation was brilliant. I don't think anyone likes Pike, so he is perfect for the bad guy you want pummelled with swift doom. Hah, yeah! I wasn't quite at the gagging stage...more like the: 'How the heck did a creature like that come to be with such horrifyingly gross abilities?!'
Hm, I have never really been too bothered about snakes like some people are! I have always thought of animals (particularly the wilder animals) to be rather awesome. It bothers me when you read and hear about incidences where either a human or animal have been killed or injured because, generally, we humans go prancing off into the wild unawares. If you skip along in the Savannah, there is a pretty high chance you'll come across a Lion/ Wildebeest/ Rhino, people! They're in their habitat!
Obviously sometimes that is not always the case, but more often than not, we bother them!
If there were to be a snake uprising, I would just up and take myself to some fifty-by-fifty-foot island far out in the middle of no where and PRAY that they didn't go through some insane evolutionary development that meant they could fly or... steer a boat.
I would leave Earths rescue down to yourself - snake master! ...Just call me when the planet is saved, and I can crawl out from my sand-cave, haha!

Hisoka is just glorious. Your brother knows his stuff! He is definitely my favourite from Hunter x Hunter alongside Kurapika (because he is just awesome - the Scarlet eyes, revenge, and his personality just make me 'WOOP!' for him). I love Meruem too! :D He was amazing!
But, like you, I don't dislike ANY character from it at all! They're all awesome in their own ways! I also love Shoot and Knuckle, and Shaiapouf and Neferpitou a lot...they're probably right up there in my top characters!

Geass_Eyes came from the anime Code Geass (which by the way, is AMAZING, I recommend it strongly!). I don't want to say too much in case you watch it! But yeah...I was less creative than you! I have a thing for pretty anime eyes, so another reason Kurapika is awesome!
Hehe, it was a good decision to watch with your brother. You have now discovered a big and vast world! And there are many things to watch and read. But be aware to encounter some perverted things, too. :p I can give you many recommendations if you want.
I've began spontaneous with HxH. I knew it was somehow hyped bud didn't quite get why. But one day, I had the desire to watch something JRPG-like and then, HxH came to mind. I was so hooked that I finished the series after two weeks! Btw, "Shounen" is more like a demographic which is aimed at younger boys. But in reality, everyone can and does watch it because it entails themes like friendship, adventures, burdens and so on.

But be aware, MAL has many users and thus, some of them are really toxic. You will surely meet some undesired people in several topics, so don't be too surprised then. ;)
As in case of Gintama, it really needs its time. The first 20-30 episodes are very unusual. You simply need time to get into this universe and its characters, but I promise, it gets better and better!

If you're okay with suggestions, I would say give Nanatsu no Taizai a bash, as well as FMA: Brotherhood, and Akatsuki no Yona! I think you'd like them if you loved Hunter x Hunter (they're in my favourites too!)

Some other recommendations from me are Gintama and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Both exceptional and very unusual shounen as HxH.
May I ask how old you are? You don't seem that young and thus, it would be interesting to see someone who discovered this medium later in his life. You can also answer in private if you want.
