Both are movie with short duration of time. The way story told is very similar. Start with a scene that happened in the middle of story, then go back to the beginning if the story. The story continues telling how the main characters get closer spending the time together until something major happened to them. However, Hotarubi no Mori e has clearer ending and better emotion lifting scene.

The story is about the lost of memories. Both feature two sisters as main character with a very similar personality. One of the sister is athletic and talkative and the other is rather quiet and suffer from an illness. The cause of that illness is similar too. The female main characters also has a rival in their love life. Both story is about love with a lot of sad moment that may make the viewer cry.
