Honestly, I can't blaim you for being confused all along, but after rewatching it for many time (7 to be more specific lol), the meaning is even more powerful and I cried my eyeballs out more and more the time I rewatched this anime. Knowing that is based on kappa mythology and the real places from Tokyo, also the BEAUTIFUL animation and music, makes me love and appreciate the hard work behind it that Ikuhara Kunihiko made, a lot more, to the point that this anime became one of the most beloved anime ever.
