I've actually changed my favorites just before reading your reply and added Mika! Funny coincidence :p I just have problems with characters section, I don't know what my top-10 should be! It's a total mess. Sure, I used some nice criteria for choosing them, but today I thought "to hell with it, I'm not happy with the current arrangement", so I reduced them to 7 people and went for the safest choice: hot or/and cute guys that I really like lol and some of them happen to be great characters as well, so it all works out, in a way :)
I'm glad you're enjoying it :) the 2nd "season" should be more interesting though, or whatever you could call the next 12 episodes. Yeah, I like the characters, absolutely love the art style, no one and nothing annoys me - perfect watch for me! Never expected to even like it, let alone be so passionate about it. As for mecha, I don't mind it and can like it, depending on how it's done :) I loved it as a kid though.

Can't say I know a lot about shoujo, but I mostly had positive experiences, the latest being Skip Beat!, which I watched many years ago, but decided to try the manga this summer. Not without its problems and too damn long, but I really liked it, overall. I hope it ends soon though lol
As for manga vs anime, I kind of agree, but at the same time I've given a lot of manga a lower score than its anime adaptation :) mostly in cases, when adaptation is very limited or partial, I liked it, but then I read the manga and it drags on and on, turning into some stuff I really dislike later on.
I'll keep Doukyuusei in mind :) haven't seen enough music anime to have an opinion. Yeah, like School Days :) some people argue if visual novels are truly games, but that doesn't matter, I really like them! I only know the name though, nothing else, so I guess I'm an exception :p I've been watching anime for quite some time! For more than 10 years already and that's without counting anime on TV as a kid, so don't let "boy" in that nickname deceive you, I only have the looks of one lol but it's been a few years since I graduated from university. And "boy" just kind of rhymed with "yaoi", so I decided to use this nickname xD although, as you can judge from my completed list, it wasn't my main hobby and I only really started picking up pace this year, after registering on MAL. I plan to watch and read a lot more :)

Oh, I'm sorry! I hope I didn't spoil anything with my words :( doesn't seem like it, but who knows. I was pretty sure you've finished it already. And I agree, some chapters were really hard to read and super immersive.

I definitely agree on Akira being hot lol this anime was another great recommendation. Most of my favorites were recommendations from several close friends and I'm really happy that so many of them were just the thing I liked.

Yeah, I've given low scores to favorites of some people I've known for quite a bit and whom I really like. It's somewhat sad, not because of numbers, but because it means there are less possibilities for us to connect with each other, but what can you do :) I'm not going to pretend I liked something if I didn't or the other way around. But someone who has given Wolf's Rain a score of "1" is my enemy for life haha I'm joking, but honestly, I'll be very, very pissed :) disliking everything else in my list is fine, nothing is perfect anyway, but this particular anime has a very special meaning, so I'll feel personally attacked lol I don't think I've encountered anyone giving it lower than "5" though and I hope I won't! For both our sakes lol and as for rating stuff, I did it a lot as a kid as well. I would create all kinds of hierarchy for anything I could imagine. Also, I'd make lists of characters, video games etc. and compare them between each other, often together with several childhood friends I had :) you just vote for something you like more, then votes are counted at the end of the round and the one with the least votes is eliminated. Simple, but for some reason it was super fun :) and I made tons of variations, like group comparisons and stuff. So yeah, I guess it's no surprise I'm so crazy about my scores here lol
I don't think Wolf's Rain is the type that everyone must see, no :) it also had budget problems, which resulted in 4 episodes in middle being recaps lol and then 4 "true" episodes were released a year later as an OVA, which serve as the real ending. I don't think a lot of people realize that those 4 episodes are literally part of the original series, not some addition or continuation, since people seem to stop at the end of TV series as if it's the end. As to what kind of anime it is...hard to answer. Not the happiest one lol but it's no surprise, since it's a post-apocalyptic setting. It's not overly complex, but not simple either. A lot of things that have no real relevance to the story are left to your interpretation. It doesn't bother overexplaining to you why things work the way they do, kind of like: do you really need to know why sun looks orange in our world or is it more important to know what it does and feel its warmth? But it's not exactly like some complex or experimental anime either. I mean those with extensive philosophical themes or similar stuff, that can be confusing and hard to fully comprehend sometimes without watching several times, like some on my favorites list (Serial Experiments Lain, Texhnolyze, Ergo Proxy). I'd say it's somewhere in-between a simple adventure story and something that uses tools like allusions, symbolism etc. unintrusively, which doesn't prevent you from understanding what's going on, but helps to advance anime's underlying themes.
I'm avoiding HxH because it's a long-running battle shounen and those are often too annoying for me to handle lol I've noticed that the hardest for me is to like the main character. That would surely make enjoyment a lot more easy, regardless of other negatives. But I'm not actually avoiding it on purpose, it's just that stuff with ~12 or ~26 episodes of other genres has more priority. Oh, and I don't think I've mentioned it before, but I have kind of a challenge coming up around November: I want to watch 1 anime from each year, starting from the oldest available :) I don't know what I'll pick until the very last moment, which what makes it exciting, but pretty much everything is an option, depending on the year and the competition. So I guess I'll be busy with that for the rest of the year, if not longer :)

Well, I don't even like comedies, but somehow I really liked Azumanga Daioh :) although that doesn't really mean anything, since setting and other factors also play a big role. I also finally recommended it to someone here on MAL not long ago! That's quite an event lol no one from people I'm close with outside of MAL would be interested in anime like that, so I feel happy about finding a "victim" to recommend it to here :p luring him with cute girls worked! Now I just hope it was a good recommendation and he'll like it :p

Regardless, I find your experience with Elfen Leid interesting and you're also the first person with whom I talked about it and who actually likes it :) prior to this, it was always me and the other person sharing our negative experiences. I mean, I've seen it in people's favorites here on MAL and things like that, of course, but I never actually discussed it directly with someone who happened to like it, always the opposite.
I've seen complaints about original Clannad visual novel actually being worse than its anime adaptation, it certainly piqued my interest :)

Well, taking into an account my response earlier, 186 completed in 10-15 years isn't really that much lol I used to watch like 3-4 anime series per year, if not less, for many years. A lot were direct recommendations from friends or close acquaintances. As for stuff with a lot of episodes, I don't always watch everything related to a particular anime, but I used to. I don't know how I remain interested lol I would like to tell you that I watched all these slowly, but it would be a lie :) the only thing I watched slowly out of things you mentioned is Naruto: Shippuden, simply because it hasn't finished airing yet when I watched it :p so, who knows? I don't really know why I'm usually able to remain interested, but I do :)

It's okay :) that's why I'm always paranoid about saving my progress somewhere while writing long messages :p oh, you're watching Owari no Seraph! A very simple anime that I really love for some mysterious reason :p not something I'd dare recommending to people though, very generic and a high chance of people not liking it :) would be nice if you did though! The order of my favorites doesn't really mean anything, it would change depending on what criterion is used, except for Wolf's Rain and Digimon Adventure, those two are very important. I recently re-arranged some of the others and placed Owari no Seraph in 3rd place :) well, technically 4th. It seems from a point of "pure unconditional love", which I used as a criterion, it's one of the top ones and it's kind of funny, since it's probably the most unremarkable one in my whole favorites list haha. But love is blind, I guess xD

I think the problem is censorship and I feel like those adaptations are often not taken seriously. You're right, I'd say: those anime adaptations simply suck and no care is usually put into making them of a nice quality at least :) visual novels have it even worse, both BL and non-BL, due to their non-linear structure. You can't just adapt them into a single linear anime, that would take a lot of ingenuity to make something good out of it. So, if I see "visual novel" as a source, I immediately decide not to watch the anime, until I play the visual novel :p even the supposedly few good adaptations, like Steins;Gate. Also, I haven't heard of Doukyuusei, but the one a lot of people seem to praise is Given, so I'm interested in watching it someday :) and maybe reading as well.
Yeah, I really liked Killing Stalking. Even though it was a recommendation from someone I trust, I didn't expect it to have such a nice psychological aspect to it :) no useless dialogue and almost every phrase/action has some meaning or alludes to something. I wonder how much I ended up missing. The BL parts were good and the chemistry was good as well, I agree, nothing weird about liking it :) I think even such a tragic and horrific story has some aspects that can be called "sweet", like two mentally broken people finding comfort in each other, in spite of everything else. Sad and wrong in many ways, but still sweet. Anyway, it totally both won my heart and broke my heart :p

Ooof, I don't know, there is quite a bit of gore :) and in a very unpleasant artistic way I'd say lol I think the only way to know for sure is to try :p 1st episode will probably help you determine whether you want to continue :) and Elfen Leid at 10 is brutal! Devilman: Crybaby is definitely up there in terms of gore, if not more. I'm not the biggest gore fan either, but I find that it often adds to the overall impression, if it's fitting, so I don't mind being scared or disturbed by it :)

I'm actually never satisfied with the way my rating scale works and some of my scores, I don't have a perfect solution and it makes me mad lol but I try my best. But you don't really need to have some extra complicated system, I think, mood is fine as well :) I just really liked rating things ever since I was little, so I may take it more seriously than others. I also feel bad, because by MAL standards I underrate even things I really like -_- but for me the main problem is that MAL scale uses phrases like "masterpiece", "bad" etc. and I don't like it. How would I know what's truly bad or a masterpiece, in most cases? Am I some kind of a super critic, who is a professional writer, animator, composer and director all in one? :p I think it's stupid, better to just have 1-10 numbers without descriptions and people should decide what to with them on their own. So, I'd rather give lower scores in comparison to MAL average, but at least someone can instantly tell what I personally like or dislike, not what I'd technically consider better or worse.
As for why I gave "10" to only one anime - you're right, to make it stand out :) as of now, there are no candidates that could rival my love for Wolf's Rain and an impact it had on me, not even close. Also, if I group up all my favorites at "10" score, I have no idea how I'll use other numbers, it will be quite a mess lol I already feel like 1-8 scale would be better for me, so the more scores I free up, the harder it becomes to give them some meaning I can understand. What do you think about giving "10" to only one thing? :) Is it too harsh? :p

It's often hit or miss it seems, since I really liked Azumanga Daioh, it's both slice of life and comedy, not my first choice when it comes to anime :) exactly how you described: it wasn't always funny to me, not even close, although it did have some really funny moments, in my opinion. But it was so enjoyable and easy to watch! Cute, wholesome, every character likable and I was sad to see it end. I don't really mind childish, so I don't know what the problem with Ouran was, exactly :) maybe I just didn't like the overall vibe, some characters and couldn't find anything I liked. But Azumanga Daioh definitely has a different approach to some of its humor, although I haven't really watched any other comedies to compare between different stuff and find a pattern :)

I'm used to differentiating between not liking a character for their actions in the story and not liking their entire existence, because they're conceived and presented in a certain way that gets on my nerves :) I'd say Elfen Leid was the later. Also, maybe if it didn't go with the cute loli type characters for this kind of story, just had a different design and setting overall, my response would've been different as well. I agree with your description of the message it tried to convey, but it's very hard to care about it when you feel nothing but annoyance and irritation. I didn't find it boring though. As for crying, well, it was pretty dramatic, so I'd say people definitely got upset or cried while watching it. I think it was also meant to be that way, in part at least, otherwise they wouldn't have chosen cute girls for characters, with whom it would be easiest to sympathize for most people. I never said it doesn't have a message :) just that behind a substantial personal distaste it didn't matter. I need to at least like what I'm seeing, no matter how horrible and disturbing it is, not think "oh my god, I want to close that anime, so annoying, I don't even care". It should make me care in some way and with Elfen Leid I couldn't. Why? I don't really know.
Haven't seen Your Lie in April or Clannad :) and Clannad seems to be based on a visual novel, so it's not going to happen until I play it, as I've mentioned above.

I didn't pay attention to half-naked girls, so I don't remember how they looked xD I don't mind even a power of friendship, I can enjoy simple stories, just don't annoy me! And Fairy Tail did nothing but extremely annoy me.

But I just meant if you dropped it because you didn't care enough, not because you disliked it :) maybe after 1-2 episodes, just in favor of finding something immediately exciting. So it wouldn't be that crazy to pick it up later :) I don't know if I'm dedicated, but I'm very slow at picking new things to watch/read and often take long breaks, that's what I want to change a bit :)

Oh, I see :p well, really good yaoi anime seems to be a rarity and I mostly just read one-shot BL manga before registering here on MAL. Maybe in the future, when I read more stuff I really liked, some yaoi will also be in my favorites :p well, you could technically say that Killing Stalking is BL, although that's not entirely correct, I'd say :) and not the focus anyway. Also, other stuff from my favorites like Owari no Seraph, Banana Fish and Devilman: Crybaby definitely has homoerotic undertones, despite them not really being a BL either.
Anyway, I mostly stick to BL visual novels, that's what really made me fall in love with it :)

I knew I was going to most likely use my own rating scale, even before I registered here, so I just wanted to be sure I'm not being too rough or too generous with some stuff and tried to re-watch as much as I can :) I still would rather suffer than drop something lol old habits die hard, but I've decided to at least drop things with a lot of episodes, if I'll watch something like that and won't like it. It's a start :)
Oh, I absolutely hated Ouran because I didn't find it funny at all and saw no satire in it whatsoever, it just looked completely stupid and annoying to me. Plus, it was extremely, extremely boring to watch. I hate anime comedies in general, because they don't have any build-up for their jokes and rely on stupid faces and shouting, which isn't funny to me in like 99% cases. I honestly barely got through that re-watch, cursing myself for even trying it a second time lol if not for those several nice episodes focused on twins, I would've probably gone insane from boredom :p
As for Elfen Leid, it just really got on my nerves for some reason. I felt like everything was forced, from excessive gore to drama (and I love drama). But I don't hate it, I just dislike almost everything in it: atmosphere, art style somewhat, almost every single character (except for Nana). I'm the easiest fish to catch when it comes to drama, you don't have to do a lot to make me tear up, but for some reason instead of making me emotional, almost everything in Elfen Leid made me feel annoyed and irritated. Some anime also likes to "fish" for emotions a bit too much, like Boku dake ga Inai Machi did in my opinion, although I do like it. Anyway, I don't think there can be an easy rational explanation for this, Elfen Leid just didn't "click" with me :) and my re-watch, after not seeing it for a long time, just confirmed it one more time.

Oh, Fairy Tail was just super predictable and infuriating beyond anything I've seen before. I already quite dislike battle shounens in general, so this was like a knockout for me :p oh, I also have a habit of skimming through episodes as well, if I drop something :) like 2-3 minutes each, to grasp what is going on. So I did briefly go through all 175 episodes, but it was super brief because I wasn't interested, so I can't even remember what was there lol and did seem pointless, knowing that it doesn't end there, so I wouldn't know the conclusion anyway. Half-naked guys are the best thing about it lol

Ah, most of the things I dislike are from the past, when I didn't really care what I watch :) I also agree with you, but judging from my experience with video games, it seems that a lot of things I didn't like in the beginning tend to become my absolute favorites :p I guess that's the reason I'd rather be sure that I don't like anime/manga after finishing it rather than drop and never know :) but it also makes sense to drop stuff in favor of something that you're into instantly, since you can always pick up dropped things later. I'll try to drop more things, promise xD

And what did you mean by surprises? :P

I assume you mean Ouran and Elfen Leid...yeah, quite harsh I guess :p but it perfectly reflects my experience with them :) although I assure you, I even tried re-watching them one more time, just to be sure...didn't really help, maybe even made things worse lol yeah, almost everything with 1-3 scores is a lost cause for me, I guess. Oh, and probably Fairy Tail too. It's the first anime I've ever dropped, so it's also kind of special to me, but in a negative way xD although maybe I should thank it for breaking me and teaching me that I don't have to complete things I dislike :p
