add

Saver and Akatsuki no Yona are stories set in fantasy realms with a strong female lead. The girls have tragedies happen which they have to overcome and they have hard choices to make in their worlds and experience betrayals. The worlds feature magic and swordfighting and strong plots and action along with reverse harems with several guys to like. The tone in Saver has less comedy than Akatsuki no Yona does. Saver does have her travel from the modern age to the fantasy world while Yona's story is completely in the fantasy realm. Both deserve high ratings.

These manga both have cold and caluculating characters who seem observe others, and while they are not mean their personalities are not typical ones, both series have both comedy and drama. They differ in that Cheese is josei while Koi Dano is shoujo and that Cheese has a more complex plot and a mystery.

Girls of the Wild's
add

Kick no Onee-san is a seinen that is sort of like Girls of the Wilds. In Kick no Onee-San we have a weaker protagonist who falls for a female fighter who is a pro-kickboxer and he gets dragged somehow into training although he is just a regular salaryman. In Girls of the Wilds we have a poor guy who goes to a formerly all girls fighting school. In each the female athletes are stronger than the mc guys. Girls of the Wilds is more fun, but Kick no Onee-san is amusing as well though not as long.

Song of the Long March
add

If you like historical stories with politics and adventure these are good ones. Yes the styles are different, but they both have characters that go through a lot of growth and development and nobles and countries plotting and scheming. Princess is more josie although it is a manhwa, and may seem like a simple story at first, but it is complex and spans generations and is now at 31 volumes, so please don't dismiss it as just a simple shoujo romance. If you want real stories, these wil supply that, if you really like historical tales mixed with romance, you will enjoy them. They both have interesting casts of characters who are complex people that grow with the story and these stories also have some tragedies and growth through tragedies and also interesting twists.

Runway no Koibito
add

Modeling is the career path for the mc's of both of these shoujos. Runaway no Koibito is darker as she has less friendship and support and more opposition on her way along that path while in Aozora Pop, she has friends and it is more light hearted. Both of the girls must deal with a parent in the industry and being compared to them and wanting to succeed on their own merit.

In Pig Bride, they need to marry someone who will love them even though they wear a mask and they cannot see the face, so someone who will love without appearances. In Kiss de Seiyaku she needs to marry the first person she kisses and kiss him every day and never kiss another, because of a curse placed on a flirtaeous ancestor. Both female leads wear a mask during part of the story as well. Pig Bride has a more fantasy aspect to it, while Kiss de Seiyaku is a modern school shoujo.

RiN
add

If you liked the story of two high school boys becoming mangakas in Bakuman, I suggest Rin. These stories both have teenage boys who are starting their careers as mangakas and their trials and tribulations, their competitions with other young mangakas who are as or more talented than them, having to deal with editors, and come up with stories to get into magazines. They also have romance stories that are part of the story but focus less on that than on their careers. Rin has a more intriguing story line and supernatural elements, while Bakuman features more of a battle at times and more intensity to the pace.

The music industry, songwriters and romance - these are shoujo/ josei manga that where the female mc is approached by a songwriter who keeps his identity hidden and needs a female muse / gf in order to create his best songs. The guys both have previous hits and need the inspiration of a new muse to bring out the romance in their music, they also don't mind using the girl for their own purposes. In Kanojo, the female lead is also a singer, but in Aishiterutte, she is not.

A fake marriage, a strong female lead, a cool / cold guy, and a pair of characters who will not confess they love each other because of their pride- if you liked Full House or watched the drama, try Ou-sama ni Sasagu Kusuriyubi. The stories are different, in one the male lead is an actor and in the other he is a wedding planner, but these joseis feature a relationship where they are married for convenience and not love.

Themes of bittersweet memories about the past flavor these shoujos where the characters think about the past and mourn what could have been. The characters look back and miss a lost love. If you have not read Winter Flowers it's an excellent one shot that needs more readers to love it. Orange is an ongoing series.

Dame na Watashi ni Koishite Kudasai
add

If you like the josei comedy Hotaru no Hikari - I think you should try Dame na Watashi ni Koi Shite Kudasai. These comedies have a similar flavor, both women are about the same age, in their late twenties and have never had a successful love life, each of them craves food and likes to drink! lol. The comedy in each is centered around them having to live with their boss because of money problems, and their bantering conversations where they make fun of their boss to his face is similar. They also have to rely on this boss and date another younger guy to try to become independent as if that would work! lol These have a lot of humor and less drama of some other joseis. It's a lot of fun to watch their weird antics, and the comedy between them and the boss guys makes you hope for a future romance between them.

These sports mangas are quite similar in their set ups and characters and even the way the characters act. In each we have a female manager of a male sports club in school. Both girls come across are hard, scar, bossy but hard-working, and are sort of tsunderes yet they started managing because they were secretly in love with the captain but never tell him. The male leads are a different guy who falls for them and both guys come across as pushy and a good athlete but they sincerely fall for the manager girl first and strive hard to get her to fall for them. The male leads are also persistent in their pursuit. These shoujo sports mangas have strong characters, Akaiito is martial arts while Namaikizakari is basketball.

Kuro Hakushaku wa Hoshi wo Mederu

These romances have historical settings and supernatural elements where a noble marries a girl in part for her unique abilities which will help them. The noblemen also have a dark element to them but these also have real romance and a lot of fun comedy.

Kuro Hakushaku wa Hoshi wo Mederu
add

If you liked the historical / supernatural setting of Hana to Akuma you may like Kuro Hakushaku wa Hoshi wo Mederu. These shoujo romances have a marriage between a person with supernatural origins and a human. In this newer manga it is the reverse and the girl has the abilities and the Count is human while in Hana to Akuma the nobleman is a demon. This one does not have a big age gap like Hana to Akuma so there are differences but they are both fun supernatural romances.

Seigi no Mikata!
add

If you love the laugh out loud humor of Oresama Teacher, then try Seigi no Mikata! - I also found this comedy about a hero to be hillarious. In each of these shoujo comedies, the mc dresses as someone else ( a masked transformation) for missions - they both play on the whole Sailor Moon ally of justice thing. Sometimes it reminded me of the Power Rangers, lol. The mcs are both former delinquents and fighters who are tasked by a leader to help them with missions. Differences would be that the mc of Oresama Teacher is a girl while in Seigi it's a guy, and also the length as Seigi no Mikata is a completed one volume manga while the first is ongoing with over 100 chapters. Seigi has a spoof on the whole flower boy thing too. These are both very, very funny shoujos and neither follows a shoujo type sterotype at all.

Kyou wa Kaisha Yasumimasu.
add

For fans of Kimi wa Pet, I suggest this new josei Kyou wa Kaisha Yasumimasu, like the former, we have a josei with an older woman / younger man set up and some similar issues with age gap. Their interactions are different though since the younger guy in Kyou wa Kaisha seems more mature than she does in some ways and there is less of the comedy to their interactions. The female lead is also less experienced in love. It is ongoing though so I don't know if the outcomes will be the same or not yet, we will have to see.

Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso
add

Music is the catalyst and focal point here. Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso is a manga set in Japan while Westwood Vibrato is a webtoon manhwa set in South Africa, however, while the stories and plots differ, music and other themes are in common. They each have characters with an illness or disability as well and some tragedies and darkness that both main characters have been through and music is key for getting them through that. Technically the demographics that they are published in are different, but since music transcends those differences, these stories do as well and I think a wide audience of people both male and female and ages will enjoy them.

S Love
add

Fans of the humor in Chou yo Hana yo will probably like S Love as well. There is a sort of saucy teasing in these josei rom- coms so if you are in the mood for some good smutty romance, go ahead. Chou yo Hana yo is a lot longer, so it falls into some drama and such but S Love has not. The female lead in each realizes that the guy is someone she knew in the past so the relationships start faster because of that.

S Love
add

If you liked Itadakimasu, try S Love. They are just good steamy josei romances and in each the gal is older than the guy but it's more about the type of steamy romance they are than that. They are mature love stories with some comedy, light hearted and not with a lot of the angsty drama you see in some joseis, more just fun true romance.

If you liked The Friendly Winter webtoon about two teens with disablilities, check out Perfect World. Although the disabilities of the characters are different, there is a similarity of their day to day lives and emotions and struggles and joys as both have a slice of life look at things. I think readers that enjoyed Friendly Winter will like Perfect World.

Perfect World
add

Perfect World is very much like Real but a josei version of Real, if that makes sense. The story is from the point of view of a young woman in love with a guy who is in a wheelchair. The main male leads both are disabled and play wheelchair basketball and both manga have a lot of reality about living with disabilities and the mental emotional part of it as well. Perfect World has less of a sports influence and more romance than Real but I think readers of one would enjoy the other. They are both very well written manga.

If you are a fan of Skip Beat! then I suggest you check out the new shoujo manga Full Dozer. We have a plucky heroine who is on a path similar to the heroine in Skip Beat! towards a celebrity. The set up of the story is similar as well but with a twist! You could think of Full Dozer as Skip Beat with a male lead instead of Kyoko. It's also by a well known mangaka (Usotsuki Lily) so I'm expecting good things.
