Thank you for your Christmas recommendations. I've started watching Chihayafuru (currently on episode 15) and I love it so far. I actually think I tried watching it once before, but was put off by the slice-of-life aspect, but I'm so glad I got back to it. I don't really like sports anime but this one definitely didn't feel like one, despite falling into the category. I love that they got their own club, and Chihaya's personality—she seems really laid-back. I'm definitely going to continue on with the series. And later give ACCA-13 a shot.
Thank you very much again and I wish you a good start to 2026!!!
This upcoming season looks like a mess, haha. It is going to be a tough one to nail, for sure. I will DM you more detailed thoughts for the FAL season on specific shows. I figure there will probably be more eyes than usual on my profile prior to the season starting, being in first and all, so don't want to give the lurkers too many opportunities to make an identical team. :P
As for the bench/active decisions, I generally do pretty well once the season actually starts. With what I have to work with, anyway. My main issue is always the shows I pick. I have picked an absolute dumpster fire show or two nearly every season, lol. One is tough enough to deal with, but two bad shows is basically an instant, "better luck next season," event.
So, I basically just make an outline for the season's potential Ace rotations as a "Plan A." It would probably be easier to explain the process by explaining how I thought going into this season.
So, my starting of Clevatess this season was not only for early points, but it was also an attempt to get it Aced before I swapped it out. Unfortunately, that didn't work out because Sakamoto Days, and to some extent Dr. Stone, grew slower than expected. Primarily, Sakamoto Days' lagging caused my Plan A to fail. I knew Dr. Stone would be pretty slow. I had the 3 no-brainer, must pick shows capping early and that worked out great. So, I started the two shows along with them that I thought had potential to be strong early to mid-game. Those being Silent Witch and Clevatess. Sakamoto having a late start was ideal since I didn't have to worry about rushing it into the lineup. So, while early points do win FAL, they have to be early points with a purpose more than just grabbing points. Every move you make should be made with regard to your ace rotations.
Plan A, my dream scenario plan which I never realistically thought would happen, was for the 3 early caps then Clevatess and Witch to perform similarly, but slightly beat each other within a 3 week span, thus getting 5 aces super early. It was actually close to working out, but Clevatess just barely lost to Silent Witch for three straight weeks. Also, the Trash show capped before it was aceable, but that is always fine because it was a show where either every relevant team aces it properly or none do. So, it changes nothing for the game.
Anyway, my realistic plan was to Ace one of them, bring in Sakamoto for that show, let it cap, then Ace the 5th show with 4 caps active. You take slight point hits from not having Stone active, but if the total point hit is less than 15k, it is team-optimal because booster teams have a 15k advantage on swap teams at season's end. Sakamoto being too slow prevented this because it is a blocker show and you can't let the Dr. Stone bleed continue for too long. If I would have abandoned the Booster Plan when I should have, it would have saved me ~5k points lost. That probably should have cost me, but so many of the great teams did not play optimally and the really, really good FAL players just didn't have the correct team composition to take advantage of this window. Also, the whole Witch debacle ended up helping because there were a couple teams that I just couldn't beat if they played optimally prior to that. I'm not sure what they did after that as I stopped tracking individual teams after that and just focused on playing my own team optimally. I thought a booster team was going to beat me, honestly.
Plan B was what I pivoted to which was getting the four caps active with Stone, acing Stone and then swapping out either Sakamoto or Stone to Ace train Panty and the remaining un-aced show from Witch/Clevatess. At that point you just track growth curves and show data to find the optimal back to back weeks where this could be done. For a while it looked like it would be weeks 9-10, but it shifted to 8-9 optimal. Also, when looking for the optimal week for acing a show, never look at max points for that specific show, only look at points lost from that show to the one you have to bench to make the swap. Though, I figure you already know that since you are finishing in the legit player ranges.
TLDR: I image the season playing out based on my team selections in regard to Ace rotations and how many shows I think will cap. I come up with at least two plans, sometimes there is a C plan, but most likely if Plan A and B fails, it is the "I'm just winging it from here on out plan." Since this season all teams were guaranteed to have 4 caps before week 9, it was going to be tight. Next season is going to be a grab-bag of nonsense, haha.
Yeah, running through swaps too quickly often costs me, as well. Most seasons actually, lol. However, this season I waited too long to make one of my swaps and it ended up costing me ~5k points.
