I figured I was kind of due for a change on this thing, since it's been pretty much the same since the day I signed up. So, lets see... what shall we say?
I'm a writer, first and foremost, followed closely by my adoration of theatre. Then there's drawing and singing and goofing off, and anime works it's way in there, even when I don't think I have time for it.
While I went into anime as obssessive and obnoxious as everyone else, I've sinced then become fairly particular with my anime. I want something intelligent--something that steps outside of the guidelines of typical anime.
Gurren Lagann does an interesting job of this, starting out relatively typical of anime--though still outstanding. It was the first and only anime to ever have me raving by the end of the first episode. And while typical anime elements follow throughout the series, they're never the central focus. Sure, you have the scantily clad buxom girl, and you have some of the bizarre, logic and physics defying stunts they like to pull, but the characters have intense depth and the symbolism is striking. Paired and juxtaposed with Neon Genesis Evangelion, Gainex has by far outdone itself.
--I am also one of the few alive who love and apprieciate BOTH series for what they are, and don't participate in this ridiculous war that has spawned int he fandoms.
And then you have Baccano, and example of pure genius far surpassing the bounds of anime. There's gore by the bucketful, but not mindless gore. Everything has a point and purpose and the ending is breathtaking. It's confusing as hell no matter how hard you pay attention, until about halfway through the series when you finally start piecing everything together. Not to mention it jumps around the time spectrum so much it's hard to make sense of--certainly an anime that demands a second watchthrough.
Lastly I'll save a space for Bokurano--quite possibly the most rich in characterization of any anime I've ever seen. It's heartwrenching, and painfully real, with characters packed with just as many--if not more--faults than virtues: -real- people. And oh, does it hurt. It's beautiful and brilliant, and while hidden in the dark, well worth the watch.
I'm done for now, so anyone with questions, go ahead and ask. I love to chat.

Have you taken a look at the Baccano! light novels yet? Personally, after I finished the anime, I couldn't get enough of it, so after rewatching I started reading the light novels too, and it turned out that they were even better!Claire is even more awesome and you also get to see more of Jacuzzi, in addition to many more new characters that don't appear in the anime but are equally awesome! And if you rewatch the anime afterwards again, you'll notice even more details that you missed before.
Sorry for being annoying, I just couldn't resist...

Good to see you got your favorites all straightened out. I found a place where you can watch Spiral, by the way.
See you!
