Sorry! Where were you 2 months ago when I was just longing and longing to talk about this show :P I even resorted to reading the forum posts on this site, and then sheepishly thought better of it. Did you foresee the cause of Akko's mysterious inability to fly? or of Diana's childhood loss of magic? What I couldn't figure out was why Diana put the Shiny Chariot card away? and when/where she acquired her disdain for Chariot, at home or at Luna Nova? The subsequent episodes leading to the finale were a bit discursive -- read let-down -- but by the end of ep 25, I was grinning foolishly as Akko managed to defy gravity in the last seconds, especially with Diana almost back to full-on snooty although tempered just-right by a trace of a grin. I'm betting that you have a bag of observations and surprising facts about the show -- yes?
I couldn't tell that the Scheherazade outfit was too different from the usual idol dresses, except maybe for the floofy harem-pant-style leggings? Like I said, I'm fashion inept.
Little witch academia:
"Magic Suit Grand Charion!"
"What is that?"
"Those guys are idiots."
"So cool..."
Mix in Akko's self-assessment regarding her stamina and hard work, and Constanze's gesture and smile at the end, and I loved this one :)
Hahaha! I'm searching for this Chica-Chica Scheherazade outfit as I'm reading your comment. I'm rather fashion inept, so no bets, though.
There's a side character named Tex? Wait, where's Luna Nova supposed to be set in? Europe? or Asia? And I'm telling you my head is just not working these days; Croix was in episode 3?! and she had glasses? Maybe I sort of remember she had glasses as a student in one of the flashbacks, and really sleeked out as an adult? Look! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's Batgirl! The goofy thing is that Ursula has seemed so bookish and hesitant for most of the movies and episodes, even though I knew she was Chariot, so well. Ursula as Hayate is still a bit of a stretch, but Akko is Hayate all the way. Now I'm going to rewatch the first episodes.
Scheherazade coord? Juri had such a thing? Now that's a terrific story and a terrific orchestral suite by Rimsky-Korsakov. There was this terrific conductor's commentary on NPR's Saturday weekend edition way back, http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=10120287 .
Does the official Amanda microfiber towel have her picture? I haven't been able to keep my thoughts on track these days to form a coherent opinion about some of the side characters of Little witch academia, except that I can't help but think Hannah and Barbara are supposed to be an east to west nod to Hanna-Barbera. And that's where my thoughts have begun and ended :) Right, Lotte and Nightfall.
No, I didn't piece it together that Croix was being referenced as far back as episode 12, and it's probably because I hadn't been watching to the very end of every episode, until I just happened to for the episode when Akko gets magicked into Diana, and saw the scene of the two girls who remained obediently outside in the cold and dark because they still thought Diana (who was really Akko being half-assed) had ordered them to. But if Little witches shares any of the values commonly found in stories that emphasize friendships between girls, which I think it does -- and I'm thinking of Hayate X Blade in particular -- then it seems quite probable that your hope for a Croix/Chariot reconciliation will be realized. Hahaha, and yes, your permanent yuri goggles :P
It's been several months to say the least. I think you did mention plans to travel last year. I'd have to agree that there are a lot of artistically talented anime fans. Though the cosplay part sort of leaves me feeling uncomfortable somehow, probably has to do with my strict upbringing and somewhat rigid sensibilities. I'm glad you had a lot of fun :)
And yeah, I bet episode 17 was a blast for the Amanda lover in you, she was quite the pretty boy after her transformation spell, worthy of facing off against Utena or Juri from Adolescence. She was like a friendlier Akira or Momoka with serious sword skills, and I do see your mix of Momoka and Akira in her. The show is going full tilt in drawing parallels between young Croix and Chariot and present Diana and Akko. That, and the goofy homologous magic tech, like the ley line routers and Croix's magical microbots, cracking me up, and the music which I like so much; they all translate into a really enjoyable show week after week.
Ooooh! you've got to tell me what you think of Little witches academia the television series, please? Isn't the music for the episodes so good?! The flute piece in episode 15 was just a joy to listen to. I've been watching the show with no one to really bounce my impressions off of, and now my brain can't seem to re-engage and recall what I've already watched :( Well, I still remember that goofy, spoofy bumble-bee-induced love confession from Diana to Akko, but more importantly, her followup confession to herself -- that made me laugh. And I liked a-lot-a-lot the episode when Akko was supposed to be swallowed as a sacrifice to the melancholy phantasm, only to be joined by Sucy and Lotte to extract...what was that core of sadness inside the spirit? well, to extract the whatsit from the sad green thingy, resulting in the unlocking of one of the seven...magical words? Rats, my memory is just not working because of disuse, forgive me.
Oh. That's discouraging. Hahaha! I mean your forecast about future Hayate X Blade chapters, not the rest of your comments. Sorry, that must seem shameless of me.
I think I've heard of Yotsuba? not sure. Is it the Japanese equivalent of The Cat in the Hat? My place is sort of packed with books, a few more couldn't hurt, maybe :)
So in HXB2, who are the A-Team members? And do Akira and Sae make it back to white-coat status? it's still a thing, the student council rank, right? As for the kaichou hosting the last woman standing battle royale...I can't even conceive of it ending in anything but one way. I guess I should have more faith in Hayashiya's storytelling, but it really has been a while since I've gotten my head into the stories, so my will to believe has weakened; or perhaps I'm still a bit gutted that there may never be a completed translation for the first, at least in my lifetime :P Though I am also consoled remembering that Marimite was translated. That, and library is practically a magic word, it sounds so nice.
Back to Japan? as in, you were born there? I must be confused.
So I'm restive and yet weirdly passive because I'm doing readings for continuing education indoors on a rainy day, which is fine, BUT. There are new Hayate x Blade chapters, and like two in a week after nothing for months is still not enough, so yesterday I found myself going back over past chapters, and the ones with Shizuku and the kaichou vs Sae and Akira are cramping my concentration and screwing with my head. You're working on the scanlations, right? -- I mean, I know (I think?) we've discussed this. Did I tell you that I tried to help in my own nerdy way, too? quality checking the English even though I don't know the first thing about Japanese, which was interesting, and those chapters in particular, which was more than interesting. I did manage to slog arduously through the Japanese for like 2 volumes on my own, using the translation transcripts as a cheat, but life interposed its hammer and that effort has ground to a full stop, such a shame. Japanese would be a decent skill to add, but I'm thinking Japanese and I are just not meant to be, at least not yet. I just rewatched Kill la kill and I still think Satsuki is anime's response to the kaichou, loud and sparkly, declamatory in speech with a demeanor that draws a rise out of everybody and yet no one can help admiring her anyway. Only the president would win :)
Which one is Blumenkranz? and it's weird, but the singers were Japanese, right? but I kept thinking I heard English. Yeah, you're right, Hayashiya definitely doesn't do the nudity thing. It is just me. Have you noticed it getting harder to learn and like new things as you get older? cause that's me :(
Mako's random pantomimes during her unflappable, unsinkable monologues in defense of Ryuko were so nuts, like on par with those two girls in Utena who would act out random scenes in the middle of an episode. I really liked the music. Did Kill la kill remind you of Hayate X Blade, too, or was it just me? It was probably just me. But, how Satsuki is all shining brilliance and just dominates with the sword, and everyone she defeats becomes totally committed to her vision just reminds me of the kaichou, and since there's still no sign that a Hayate x blade anime will be made, this one brought me that much closer to that unrealized desire, even more than Best student council did. I'm pretty sure that colored my enjoyment of the series, quite a bit. Like how Hayashiya would throw in these utterly random gags, with bald bespectacled middle aged business men wielding blades and chickens; Kill la kill was just like that! Okay, I think I'm overtired at this point, so I will stop. You do travel a lot -- Japan?
They did go on a date, right? and Satsuki was there, sporting cropped hair. There's an OVA? I'm sleepy and a little stressed out, so my brain isn't working properly, but yeah, Kill la kill was hyper and wild. I may have to reconsider, but it was at least as good as the Madoka series, and for sheer outlandishness, it kept reminding me of Utena, and didn't suffer from comparison. Although Utena's careening from comical to tragic was much sharper.
And I just watched the giant growing girl episode of Valkyrie, and loved the Alice in wonderland vibe, and the beach scene where Nimi is fishing for the smaller village girls reminded me of Gulliver's travels. Although, to be fair, the show was just plainly being itself, with the boobs, and yeah, there were random light beams. I think I've gotten used to it because of the running gag with the Nudist Beach guy in Kill la kill.
Tell me what you thought of Kill la kill, please :)
