I miss our talks :((
I simply love this Q & A's and other tumblr stuff, so fell free to tag me anytime ))
Well, I wish you luck with your studies and the diploma. Don't procrastinate!)) *Putting my granny glasses* - and enjoy your student youth at the fullest. haha)))
>> i also dream about the stuff i'm gonna buy and where i'll travel to when i get my first salary
oh gosh, that's such dangerous thoughts, I could spent all day thinking how will I go everywhere haha XDD
There was such an awesome quote about pretty books: 'I am haunted by all the editions of books that are prettier than the ones I already own.' *sigh*
Talking about school and anime, I remembered I had a friend (and still have haha) who was crazy about k-dramas and k-pop. So she was patient with my "omg you must read dat manga it's about cool boys and awesome girls and also titans eat people I tell you - you must!!1". And I listened to "oppa was so cute and other oppa is lovely I wanna marry everybody of dat band". So my school years were bearable at some point due to such talks.))
First of all, I read 9th volume of Drrrrr! And it was... intense. But it finally tells us who is Izaya and how be bacame such a person. So...well, about Izaya. I think being the best student, living in a normal family and having no troubles - this is what really spoiled him. And his desire for uniqueness, for originality provided him with a decision that underground world and yakuza business is far more interesting than living an "ordinary life". (Later same thought came to Mikado but in a softer form). I mean most of the characters were forced to participate in the events in Ikebukuro due to circumstances, like Anri or Celty. But for Izaya it was completely his decision. Because of that to society he is a 'jerk', he tricks people not for money or profit, but just for fun which is itself a terrible excuse for the dirty business. And that's what I like about this situation.
The level of violence in Drrr also increased a lot. I kinda don't like the new characters like siblings from the gym or the stalker but anyway. There was a scene when Izaya was done with the gang, and he was going home and just punch the street column. The scene was incredibly important 'cause I think he loves his sisters and he sometimes cares about people, but he is so very much trapped in his own game that he cannot admit those facts.
I knew Shinra was crazy but he's really so ignorant to other than Celty that I think probably Izaya and Celty are less insane than Shinra. The relationship of Shinra-Izaya is also quite peculiar.
I'm currently reading the 7th volume of Baccano and those are some of my thoughts. I loved Keith Gandor and his wife! Such a romantic story with the silent films aww *o* Volume 4 was magnificent btw, and better than anime :PP
I like Jefferson brothers' contrast. And I also like Maria, though I cannot ship her with Tick. They both are cute but I just don't imagine them together :(( I am kinda terrified about Christopher O_O. As for the other new characters, I still dunno what to think, I read just 1/3 of the story haha))
I absolutely love all POV stories with Izaac and Miria. The sillier they behave - the more I am sure they have very very dark past))))
Well, I did not actually liked 5th volume. More like it was out of order. Suddenly too many odd charas that do not later appear. And I am a bit confused with that situation with clones, like who is whose father, who is whose master, and who finally survived so... mmm... I hope for the future explanations.
Btw, I wanted to ask whether it is okay to read Jojo in non-linear order? Like I wanna try Steel Ball Run but I was discouraged by the first Jojo storyline.
Congrats on passing your exams and assignments! And thanks for the kind words!)
So back to the conversation.
Well, IR is mostly politics yeah. But we also studied economics and law, history, statistics, and many other. Actually I was not a good student. First year of my studies I skipped classes and watched films at dormitory. I studied only for midterms and exams, so I passed but it was close. However during the third year, I really got interested in my area. I began to read articles and do some research for myself. So I think my studies were not useless. The other question is whether I got any practial knowledge. That's basically the story))
Actually I love my thesis a lot)) Writing it was another funny story. I wrote it during one week. My main "inspiration" was the anger for my supervisor. He told me smth like 'you're not very clever', and I was like you moron will face what is called the woman's revenge. So I wrote 10k words in a week. It was my VENDETTA))) Please never repeat it, it's dangerous for your health :DD But honestly, I loved my topic, and to pick it was a right decision. Nope, at the defense nobody noticed my appearance, my professors were sleepy themselves))
Well, my advice for the thesis is really common but really effective. Do the topic you are interested in. If you will choose the boring but convenient topic it would be such a burden. Seriously, in a month you will hate it. Another advice is to do as much reading as you can (not sure how proper it is if you study technology but still). I will not tell you to start writing earlier cause it is useless. Many people from my group started writing earlier than me, and still they could not accomplish their work for the deadline. So it's quite an individual matter. But start readings as early as you can!))
Wow, your field is so interesting! Do you play videogames as a homework? Actually now there are less prejudice and stereotypes against games and gamers. So this area, imho, is very perspective!
Btw, my childhood youth dream was to buy 20th Century Boys manga in English from my first salary. But now I'm thinking about buying PS4 from several salaries. I'm so ambitious omg, even though I still don't have the job XDD
btw, do you like tokyo ghoul? I tried to read it and watch. yet, I guess it is a way too boring for me.
yeah, sure)) international relations actually. during the three years I heard so many jokes that I never will found the job, so IR already sounds funny even to me)) but my thesis was actually about urbanization, like comparison of urbanization in Asia and Latin America)) the story how I defended my thesis is veryyy epic)) I had a ticket for the rock festival on one day (The Black Keys were there), and straight the next day I had the defense. so I went to my defense exactly from the railway station. seriously, I'm a bad student))
now I will have some kind of a gap year for work or internship, and the next year I'd go for master degree. but I have zero idea which field.
and you study something related to arts, right?
well, Shizuo surely gets smarter. when Izaya tried to deceive him with dat murders of Awakusu, he finally firstly thought, then acted. I also love it when he becomes so sweat and calm near Kasuka. like Tom or Celty never could stop him like that.
yeah, Kadota is really the sanest person in Drrr! I want him and Chikage to become best friends. like 'hey mate, we had a cool fight, now we are real bros'))
talking about romance, I lol'd when Vino said he proposed to so many girls but they all refused. ahahah, serial killer is searching for love.)) also first volume was good and kinda different from the show. why didn't they show the japanese photographer? and then... so Firo and Ennis later got married? wow. anime was silent about that haha))
so I read first 3 volumes of Baccano. and my first impression is that it is really good written literature. I mean when I read drrr, I never forget that I'm reading a light novel. on the other hand, Baccano is like a real book with really good descriptions and characters opinions.
also idk how to explain, baccano and durarara are so different not even talking about background or time, but especially the atmosphere differs. and in that sense, I'm a fan of Narita how he impressively created absolutely different worlds. In Baccano it's rather criminals who try to be normal people, while in Drrr the normal people dive in criminality in purpose to escape from their boring lives. Yeah, Mikado is the great example, yet Orihara also is from good family and it was his choice to work in underground world. You're right, Drrr is much more darker tale, and chracters with black black hearts.
also I guess later volumes of drrr became more interesting because they no longer focus only on high schoolers but tell about mafia, companies, and strong players like Yodogiri or Akabayashi.
thanx a lot!! I still can't believe I graduated)) like yeaaaahhh, finally, the end of my torturas >_< :DD
well, in anime Izaya and Shizuo were likable bishounes not thinking about boys love. and then suddenly in novels they are hardly so cute. Shizuo is described as almost stupid emotional brat. even though he has darling people, still he is unstoppable monster. I thought he is nice with Tom, Celty or whatever, but they frequently are afraid of him. on the other hand, for no reason I just liked his brother, and the romance with Ruri.
unfortunately, there are not much Kadota & band in novels. Kadota is my favorite character in the entire series, I guess. I'd also wanna know more about Yumasaki and Karisawa.
years ago, when drrrr was the ongoing, I read lots of spoilers, and I imagined Vorona more epic and their romance with Shizuo more ... romantic?
there is not much of Kida latey so I guess he's no longer a main character.
and I really dk how I feel towards Izaya. I will be waiting for his development))
btw why ball point scene was infamous? I thought it was very cool. Mikado finally showed his dark personality and that he no longer wanna be ordinary. I even began to respect him.
oh! and I forgot to mention - Chikage is babe))
yeah, I decided to read Drrr first, because the second season will come soon, and it's interesting to compare them. well, my first impression was that anime adaptation was reeeeally good. probably without anime my vision of characters would not have been so clear. I guess friendship of trio is shown more in anime than in novels. characters are quite as I thought but it was quite a shock when Narita several times underlined Orihara as a handsome man. also it is quite irritating that in each volume he describes who is Celty, again and again. I also like it when Narita makes the city as narrator. Mikado's dark sides are cute. it made me so happy when he finally "responded" Kuronuma. out of the characters, I don't like Orihara twins and Vorona.
well, just finished 7th volume, those are fresh impressions, still have to read the next ones))
btw, I just started reading Baccano. how many voulmes the anime covers?
Situation is kinda strange, I mean the people are fighting the military - the guys who are supposed to protect the people. And the whole resistance is against our president and the ruling party, because everybody is really tired of them.
Actually some things are being stereotyped, all of the city don't have issues: people go to work, shops are working, transport is working. Those photos with burning buses and Molotov coctails are happening just on a tiny peace of land in the center of Kiev, smaller than one kilometer in diameter. Also there are no vandalism or marauding. The people there are from different backgrounds, there are students, pensioners, many come at night after work, there are many women who are cooking for men. So it's a perticularly resistance against the militaries.
But I'm so worried, and I'm watching news every hour, and writing to friends and family, there are already victims, and everybody's praying it would not lead to war. So yeah, we are in kinda strange situation right now.
I wanna discuss SnK so hardly! Last chapter is AWESOME. Hanji FTW. And Historia's childhood.
I also read that shitty news that Isayama considers another endings, and it made me incredibly upset. I mean wtf? The dark, disturbing ending is what people are expecting. The unhappy ending in fact attracts even more!
BL just broke all streotypes)) When she started dating with her neighbour, who is younger and shorter than her, I just had feeling no way that could happen))
Bitou Lollipop is translated sooo slow. I hope it won't become the second Sangatsu no Lion.
Talking about recs, exchanging of recs yeah!, Afterschool War Activities is quite good. I hope this series would last for long. Just to mention I love Ha Il Kwon))
Btw, where did you read Saturn Apartment? Or you bought it?
It was not bad. However do I regret wasting time? Yes, I do. It was not my cup of tea. It took too many volumes to resolve the main drama but in the end you feel it was like talking about nothing. I got the feeling that mangaka tricked me. I had huge expectations due to high ratings of my friends. And all 12 volumes I kinda was waiting for something bigger to happen. It did not. When you read it at first and got some impression oft it, believe me, it's not gonna change.
PSME is oldschoolish in all senses. Yes, probably within shoujo genre it should be valued more but in generel it is not a masterpiece (at least for me).
To put it all together, PSME is not bad. It is just not brilliant.
Note: if you are a fan of oldschool give it a chance. I am being highly subjective.
Let's face the reality. And it never will be *sigh*
Hooray, you're completing 20th century boys! I love it so much, so much. Everytime I want to re-read it, I stop myself 'cause I should completely forget it before re-reading :DDD
Yeap, I'm happy when new mysteries and questions appear (like I still wait for Eren dad's basement). (AND I REALLY WANT OT KNOW WTF IS HAPPENING AND HOW DO THEY BECOME TITANS TELL ME NOW). But I think that the dynamics is quite slow. It is like something big gonna happen next but Isayama is trying to delay that moment.
Btw, BBCode is not working with blogs, with personal pages it is okay.
>>too gay for them
Dat is lol. Then about Historia and Ymir?
The fact that they ignored Hange-pastor scene was a real foolishness, because it showed that government is somehow involved with shingeki affairs, and made the conflict between people and titans not so obvious. Jeez.
Btw, the upcoming arc in manga is proceeding too slow, to my mind.
I must read his novels! Does it get more drama later?
Also, plan to read Bitou Lollipop is a good decision! It is UNPREDICTABLE SHOUJO, can you believe me? XDD
>> cut out plot relevant scenes with Hanji
NO WAY. That's one of my favorite scenes. How could, how could they??..I don't even...
>>her English isn't good enough yet
Btw, isn't SnK translated into German? I thought it so popular that it was already scanlated everywhere.
Also I heard Eren is incredibly hysterical there. Is that true?
>>dumb love interest
Omg, fanservice is fanservice. It is better to make hundred romantic scenes and add heroic Rivaille to attract watchers than try to capture the atmosphere.
So so sad.
