Story-wise this anime is nothing you wouldn't know yet. It's yet another sports club anime with a newbie at it's center, a way strong rival school and ensuing shenanigans whenever it's not about the sport. Oh and of course there's the obligatory 'But this is the last year we can do this with our Senpais!!!' Nothing new really but its execution is solid and you easily get dragged along on the journey.
That is in part thanks to the characters. All with their very distinctive personalities which make them easy to understand without seeming superficial. People argue and are confronted with personal issues and they
...
learn from those things and our main team grows together quite a bit.
The rival team has great personalities as well though. While we don't have enough time with them to get to know them as well as the main team, they do each have similar personality types to one of our main team with at most 2 exceptions. Misato's counterpart is vague at best while Futaba's counterpart is straight up oposite to him in nearly every way.
Anyway, characters aren't the only thing that makes this anime work.
The art and sound design are fairly nice and the animation as well is quite good. I'm not a big fan of the CG used to animate the routines but it isn't bad or anything.
My only big issue with the animation is the camera-handling during performances. Personally, I think the camera moves way too much to be able to keep up with what's going on. I had trouble appreciating the routines that were thought up because I could barely keep up with what was happening which lead to me feeling underwhelmed. I appreciate the close-ups of the members faces at some points and I understand that during the tumbling parts you want to put the focus on those that are doing the tubling but with too many changing angles and sometimes swithing camera lenses and all the moving around I feel it was just too much. To me it felt like it was taking away from the amazement and beauty mens rhythmic gymnastics can have.
Take that complaint with a grain of salt though as I am used to seeing those performances from a very much unmoving camery angle thanks to watching a bunch of videos online.
At the end of the day I still enjoyed the ride and would certainly call it an anime worth watching.

This ... was supposed to be a conclusion.
With the global situation being what it is I didn't mind the conclusion to be separate from the rest of the anime if that meant they'd have enough time to work on making it a suiting one. I'd love to know what happened to make this thing be what ended up being made though.
The first half is essentially a recap to get you up to speed before the actual story happens which in itself is a nice idea, I'll admit that. But please make that an entirely separate episode so it's optional and can be skipped
...
by people who don't feel they need it. That would also make it easier for people watching this after everything has aired and for potential TV re-runs.
After that we finally get thrown into what is supposed to be the conclusion and boy have I never seen a worse conclusion. It concludes absolutely nothing. If anything it throws even more questions and loose plot-threads into the room.
The story it does tell isn't really helping anything either given that I would occasionally lose track of what was going on and why.
Ai's character also confused me a whole lot because at some point she felt like an entirely different person and I understand that the development might be somewhat shocking but at this point it should not cause her to react in a manner that is this contrary to what we're used to.
Overall this is a trainwreck that in my opinion should never have happened.

Good grace do I love this anime!
Fruits Basket: The Final is in my opinion the best final season this show could have gotten.
Art and animation are as beautiful as ever and the sound design is just as great. It really makes you feel all kinds of things and boosts those emotions.
The characters are incredibly well portrayed to the point that you can emphasize with how each and everyone got to the point they are now including Akito who finally gets a major spotlight.
Seeing and finally being able to understand how Akito came to be in such a horrible state of mind was just
...
amazing. A character that just about everyone hated turning from a monster into a human for the first time as we get to experience the past said monster had to go through. After all the build-up the wait absolutely paid off.
Story-wise as well. The story takes you on a ride through all the resolutions giving them all enough time to play out comfortably without losing the emotions attached. At the end everything is wrapped up neatly yet in a way that makes you dream about all the experiences the characters are gonna have without any of us watching them.
It's just a great wrap-up for a great anime and I enjoyed every bit of it.

Where do I even start to open this can of worms?
There's a bunch of people who seem to like it and consider it wholesome and to a certain extent I can see why. There are scenes that could be perfectly wholesome if not for the overall situation.
Likewise there are people who condemn it for all the legal and moral issues within the story. Those claims are absolutely valid but through all those issues I feel there are some quite valuable things to be learned as well if you change your perspective a bit.
Let's get the smaller things our of the way before we
...
tackle the big issue:
The sound exists and personally speaking the art feels somewhat off at times but one can probably put up with it just fine.
Apart from the main 2 the characters seem to have only the most basic depth to them and barely matter anyway while Sayu and Yoshida do get a fairly reasonable development.
Now for the legal and moral issues: potential grooming, sexual abuse of minors, pedophilia, the way they address suicide, taking in a minor without parental agreement and possibly also parental neglect
In my opinion none of those are properly touched upon, some aren't even addressed at all.
Grooming: Nobody questions whether Yoshida might be grooming Sayu and while I do not think he (consciously) did so, he certainly had all the means to which is still worrying.
Sexual abuse of minors: All anyone ever questioned was whether or not he would get sexual with her seeing as she can recount tales of all the times she was pressured into those type of things so man would let her stay in their homes. This is mentioned as being horrible and both illegal as well as morally wrong but I can't remember anyone helping her work through the toll this would have to take on her. To Yoshida's credit though he does decline her every offer because of (in part) her age.
Pedophilia: Isn't discussed at all. Yoshida does mention he won't fall for highschool kids but his colleague casually calls Sayu cute, Sayu's brother doesn't seem to mind the idea of this grown adult loving his underage sister and you can not convince me that Yoshida did in fact not catch feelings for this minor.
Suicide: This is in itself not touched upon properly but to be fair from the viwers perspective there was no way we could have possibly touched it any better than it has been done. Not without sacrificing the storyflow anyway.
Taking in a random minor: This is illegal for a reason but we only ever get told that it is in fact illegal while we get shown all the positives it had for Sayu to be taken in by Yoshida. There's gotta be SOME way to make you question whether this really is the right thing to do.
Parental neglect: Well, not with that kind of mom though. You can basically piece together that there is an issue here but we only really get Sayus side of the story, nobody acknowledges it really and it's kinda taken care of in a weird way.
To end this on a less sour note I'll double down on being able to take away good lessons from this as well.
Those being 'Helping others regardless of what you get out of it', 'Being able to accept help', 'Not compromising on ones own morals' and 'Being able to face the past and move on'
All in all I didn't particularly like it or hate it but it absolutely isn't for everyone.

When I first heard about this show I figured it was just some average comedy trip to kill time with and decided I could not be bothered to watch it. Especially because I had important things to take care of, I really didn't want to waste my time on a show I likely wouldn't care too much about.
Now, a year later, I am once again avoiding taking care of important things and YouTube keeps throwing scenes from this anime at me so I decided I'll watch it. Mind that I still thought I wouldn't care at all.
The premise itself is already a quite interesting
...
one seeing as people with Isekai-Syndrome tend to not be the main antagonists of a pre-existing story. However, it would only be half as good as it is if not for the execution. Katarina starts out as a child and so both she and the viewer have plenty of time to get the basics of this world down. We essentially learn everything either as we need it (see the basics of this OtoGe World at the beginning) or as Katarina learns it. Those instances also rarely feel out of place or out of character which makes them fit in with the rest of the story.
The story overall is fairly predictable in my opinion and the final twist is mostly obvious if you pay attention except for the details of who and why. This is executed well though and I think it's more about the fun we had with the friends we made along the way than purely about the story.
Personally speaking this anime felt mostly like a comedy, having a bunch of scenes that play on the fairly simple traits of all the characters but even within those comedic scenes there is story progression and character growth. Inbetween all the laughs though, there are a bunch of moments, usually the ones about a characters past, that evoke a genuine heart-felt reaction as well. Balancing those main aspects together with the romance and some smaller ones is something this anime does surprisingly well.
Now, I called the characters fairly simple and I stand by that as they are mostly definable within a sentence or two. But that doesn't mean they don't get to grow, which they do in a relatable way. Also, they are at their core still OtoGe characters so a really complex character would likely not suit them too well.
The art and sound are nice as far as I could tell and I was surprised to find myself enjoying this anime quite a bit.
Overall this was definitely worth my time and I might stick around to watch the second season once it comes out.

So, I finally remembered this movie is out by now and decided to watch it.
Important things first: This movie, among a couple other issues, has a scene that might very well be triggering to some people and while it doesn't go all the way the movie should probably have warned viewers about it and addressed it.
On to everything else:
I haven't read the manga so I can't speak to how accurate the movie sticks to it's source material but I quite enjoyed the movie. It seemed to have some pacing issues and there were a couple of things I would have wanted to linger
...
on for a bit more and especially the last 4 or 5 minutes seemed partially out of nowhere but for the most part it felt like the important beats where all hit.
Ritsuka and Mafuyu taking a backseat to catch up with what the ever-loving fenrir was going on with Akihiko and Ugetsu as well as Haruki was a nice change of scenery and felt perfectly natural. Sure, Mafuyu did pop in occasionally but it always felt natural for him to be doing the things he was doing.
The same goes for all the other characters. I am constantly able to follow why anyone behaves in a certain way. That doesn't mean that everyone always acts in a thought out logical way but what human ever does?
Is Ugetsu being way contraditory with just about everything? Yes, he very much is and he most likely knows it along with what he should actually do. But with everything else that is going on with him, it would not make sense for him to just do the right thing and be fine with it.
Did Akihiko screw up big time that one scene and should also have been way more honest from the start? All true but that's the way he has dealt with stuff up till now and habits rarely just disappear over night.
Is Haruki being a major idiot in how he reacts to Akihiko screwing up? Yes, but that is the kind of person he is. That's his current way of loving someone.
The things they do and the way they react to what's happening might not always be good in any way, shape or form but those failings are what makes them human.
In conclusion: It's a real nice movie but it certainly has some morally horrible story beats

I did not expect to end up loving this as much as I do.
Story:
Horimiya has a fairly standard base-story about two people that never really interacted or cared about each other getting closer thanks to some coincidence or another and going on to become friends and eventually more. It is nicely executed and personally speaking very heartwarming and fun most of the time but except for some details probably nothing you haven't seen before.
Characters:
Even though there are a whole bunch of characters they are all unique and portrayed in a way that makes it easy to understand their feelings. They are believable enough
...
to make you care about them yet exaggerated enough to pull off it's jokes. I feel it's very easy to keep track of the emotional status of the characters by simply following them through the episodes and watching them grow.
Art:
The art and animation is consistently good with the world looking beautiful most of the time. Sure there might be moments when it's not beautiful but just plain good but when at it's best the question of how beautiful should it be seems to have a resounding yes as an answer.
Sound:
I like the opening and ending and I think the soundtrack is nice, though I do admittedly have an issue with remembering soundtrack in anything. Also I personally think the voice acting is absolutely great.
Enjoyment:
I have not been this glued to the screen while watching something in a while and it felt great to be sucked into the world of Horimiya. I will admit it isn't perfect and I do have my gripes with it but I whole-heartedly loved every second anyway.
Should you watch Horimiya if you haven't done so yet? If you like romcoms I'd sure encourage you to watch it and even if you don't I'd love for you to give it a try but in the end it's for you to decide.

So, this is an anime that exists.
When I first saw we were getting another volleyball anime I was almost expecting it to be just as amazing as Haikyuu. However the first episode made me realize that would likely not be the case for me and I'll admit I was being really unfair to 2.43 for expecting such things.
Now, to break this down a bit:
Story:
2.43 has essentially the same overall story you've seen in just about every other sports anime ever. It has a few details that stand out but the smaller ones are not really touched upon and the biggest one by
...
far is resolved in what I find to be a rather unsatisfying manner. Part of the reason for that might be the pacing which I find to be too fast. Things happen but there is barely any time to get to know the characters so whatever happens falls flat thanks to lack of emotional investment.
Characters:
Speaking of characters, they don't get fleshed out at all. I can barely name 3 to 4 characters out of 2 full teams worth simply because most of them don't seem to matter. There are 2 characters that get the most baseline character development while most of the others don't even get actual character traits. Now, I don't want to call the characters badly written, rather I feel like the writer forgot that the audience has no clue who any of them are and thus simply never established them in a way for the audience to get to know or relate to any of them. In a sense it might be more acurate to say a bunch of them aren't written at all but just thrown in there by gut feeling.
Art:
On to something better, the art. The art itself is fairly good for the most parts and the animation as well has moments that look great. That is until a) whatever is moving is further away from the camera or b) there's too many moving things at once. It's as if the quality is constantly swaying around sometimes being actually good, sometimes being all that isn't good and most the time just somewhere inbetween.
Sound:
I could not tell you anything about the sound. 2.43 has an opening, an ending and some soundtrack and regular sounds but they're not really noteworthy in any way.
Enjoyment:
In case you actually read up until this part and can't figure how my enjoyment of this anime was: it wasn't. I was constantly bored and didn't care about anything. At some point I genuinely did not want to continue watching it and only really finished it because I started it so I might as well see this through till the end. For all I care the best thing might have been the fact that most characters actually speak in a dialect that I'm just gonna assume is accurate to the region.
Should you watch 2.43 if you haven't yet? I wouldn't recommend it but if you want to feel free to do so and form your own opinion on it.
