Unfortunately, the harem and fanservice had much to be desired. Kirito spontaneously gained admin powers just when Sugou was going to give us the best part. :'(
I mean, they didn't even animate ch16.5 properly. :'(
Because it was generally uninteresting for me. Too much melodrama in relationships, most characters become useless from the second part, and the last part (with Madara and Kaguya) was just about one of the worst things I could read in my life. I never really managed to identify with characters that I didn't find consistent most of the time.
I've explained how I rate series in my profile. I basically try to have 10% of my anime under the same score, so I created a top list, and I've assigned each anime to a rating that fits.
I've also reviewed it at some point with my actual thoughts on Naruto but to sum up, it had some interesting powers and characters, then it starts dragging because it seems like it ran out of ideas or because it needs to sell. Overall I thought Naruto before Shippuden was pretty mediocre, but on its own could be considered decent. However its sequel without a doubt does influence my opiinion of it.
Mhmm to me Hunter x Hunter is significantly worse.
The main reason being I think it has some identity issues. Pre yorkshire was pretty generic shounen which had some cool elements, was pretty decent imo. Yorkshire was imo the best arc but the ending and development ruined it for me. It had a lot of cool elements I really liked such as the gangster world and hierachy. However the ending reminded me that this is a "silly shounen" where friendship trumps everything, even for the villains. If the same thing happened in Fairy Tail it wouldn't be too bad of an issue because once you get past the beginning, it's all about friendship power, Fairy Tail know what it is.
If it happened in BNHA then it would be also be super bad, due to the serious nature of the story and characters.
Also Chimera Ant arc was imo silly and edgy (and like 60 episodes for at most 20 episode content) :p
For me, Fairy Tail, while it definitely have it's up and downs, the ups trump HxH ups by a lot and it doesn't suffer from identity issues, has better pacing, had one of the best filler arcs I've seen in mainstream shounen instead of just dragging out the pace (also one of the worst arcs though) and much more interesting and appealing character design.
BNHA, I'm probably one of the people who don't enjoy it as much as most tbh. However once you get past the author fapping to American culture, it's really good imo. The characters are quite unique as really makes the show.
But well there's no such a thing as objectively good, the closest thing you'll get to objectively good is by looking at the amount of people who thinks it's good, and HxH is hugely loved by the majority. Simply had a lot of qualities I wasn't a big fan of :>
