Since I've written several reviews now, I feel it prudent to explain how I rate things.
First of all, I am one of those people for whom a score of 7/10 is average. If an element of a show (or a whole show) hits competence but doesn't excel, it earns a 7. Naturally, it's also possible to get a 7 by excelling in some areas and failing in others, but it's relevant to know that this is where the scale is balanced.
It's very hard to get a 10 out of me. In order for me to call something a Masterpiece, I absolutely have to believe it is one, and that's rare. The lower rankings, by contrast, log something like degrees of offense. A 1, in theory, entirely lacks redeeming qualities in the material covered by such a rating.
I will rate each of MAL's categories (Art, Sound, Character, Story, and Enjoyment) and give a final score based on the mean of those rankings. if the mean isn't a whole number, I reserve the right to round whichever way I prefer in order to give what I feel is the more accurate impression of the work as a whole. I always try to explain, in detail, why I feel a certain way about a work. I also attempt to discuss interesting topics of media analysis related to a series in question. This is because I feel it's critical to know why something is (supposed to be) bad or good, not just that some jerk on the internet (like me) feels that way.

Really, part of the reason why I can't quite bring myself to rate this a 10, is because it doesn't stand on its own. To watch Shakugan no Shana Final you really need Shakugan no Shana and Shakugan no Shana Second, and that's probably 20 hours of show to chew through to get to this part. The payoff is well worth it, especially when the first two seasons were decent to good in their own right, but this isn't something to watch on its own.
So the actual greater fault of season III or even all seasons actually is that the anime lacks so much relevant prior data and history that exists in the LN which we should be presented with since the history of the world is important as its what shapes the current
I just wanted to stop by and say that I really like your style of reviewing. It's not so common these days to find someone who actually puts effort into them and doesn't just aim for the lucky seasonal upvotes. That said, I hope you won't quit or something because they don't get any recognition. I know from a personal experience that it can be heartbreaking at times, but we have to continue to make the reviewing situation a little better.
