sorry for the late response! been very busy recently, it's nice to get back into mal once again! i definitely missed visiting this site :]
i get what you mean, i feel that way sometimes as well, especially when i'm rewatching something that i still remember
junji ito is awesome! his work is insanely popular amongst others in the psychological horror genre. i definitely recommend his works if you're a fan of psychological manga, as well as horror and lack for a better term, grotesque illustrations!
from what i remember, blame! was one that i liked very much! i haven't re-read it in over a decade or even longer, so my memory is a bit foggy. i'll definitely give it another read now that you reminded of it, thank you!
i finished re-reading homunculus recently, another one of my favorites. have you read it?
i understand! sometimes, i don't like rewatching anything because my perspective changes drastically from the first time i watched something..
texhnolyze is one of my favorites, it dug right into the philosophical and psychological factors that make it an underrated anime for those who enjoy the genres! the impact that technology has had over the years on humanity has definitely made this anime age really well in recent years, especially because of the rise of AI and its involvement on our day-to-day lives.. i agree with your thoughts as well! while others might find the concept scary or paranoia-inducing, i feel like it adds balance to our lives and what happens around us.
i've recommended texhnolyze to a lot of people throughout the years, but most had a hard time understanding it, or staying engaged at all. i'm glad i was able to find someone that understands the true beauty of philosophical and psychological media, not everything has to be colorful or action-filled for it to be truly enjoyable.
are you a fan of any psychological manga? i'd be glad to hear about your thoughts!
i understand how it was a difficult watch! i actually did not like it or understood it that much the first time i watched it, but i gave it a second try a few years later and it just stuck to me ever since!
i'm also anxiously waiting for despera to come out, i hope we get some more information about it by the end of this year ..
i did watch sonny boy, i've been planning to rewatch it for the last couple of weeks! i truly enjoyed it when i watched it for the first time, seeing it again wouldn't hurt
i assumed you have watched texhnolyze already, what did you think about it?
serial experiments lain is definitely amongst some of the best out there and also one of my favorites! series don't need to overexaggerate on their deep or philosophical levels, and clearly, serial experiments lain is a great example of that! truly aged well after 26 years..
my favorite of all time is welcome to the n.h.k aka NHK ni youkoso!
this anime hasn't left my mind since i first watched it almost 14 years ago! just like you, welcome to the n.h.k is very special to me, i related to it strongly as the years went by
i sure do miss those eras of philosophical anime, but change isn't always bad. i'm always keeping an eye out on any new philosophical anime seen on the horizon :}
my pleasure! glad i found someone that also enjoys philosophical content, it's hard to find that nowadays with many other genres getting the spotlight, what's your favorite of all time? :}
