'The Cat Returns' is basically a remake, the plot is very similar, as they are both about a human character who becomes royalty while an elegant swordsman who happens to be a cat who stands on two legs helps them througout the story, and the climax is basically the exact same: a race to the top of a giant tower against the main villain so that the main character can defeat the villain. The villain in both movies also happen to use a magical artifact which gives them all their power; when the artifact is destroyed, the villain becomes powerless.

Both are about war and how it impacts peoples lives, they're also both aimed at a similar audience and have a young main character. Tomino also stated that the idea of the White Base was directly inspired by Yamato.

They both focus on a male single parent and his struggle to balance work with home life. They also have a focus on comedy, and are really wholesome too.

Both are episodic TV series that are very meandering and slow. They both also have a dark view of the world, yet aren't afraid to display its more upbeat moments either. The main character in both series is a serious person who has dedicated their life to one purpose, and they have a more lighthearted sidekick with them. Both series also feature the main character travelling to a different place each episode.

Both are about a family of a a dad who works a lot who as to take care of one younger and one older child. Trials and tribulations as well as adorableness ensues.

Both are war stories with characters who you get to see grow througout their lives. Berserk is obviously more fantastical, but both focus on the human element of war, and let you see the gruesomness that happens from all perspectives.

Both shows are about girls who are outcast by society gaining a chance at life by working for the government, with older people guiding them as their mentors. Also, cool action and guns.

Both shows subvert the viewers expectation of being a traditional magical girl by incorporating more dark and serious themes compared to more traditonal shows in the genre.
