Meh. I was looking for more fan service than this, but it seems as the season goes on there is more and more actual plot, which is kinda mid. I think the monster villains were pretty cool, but there are alternative "neutral villains" and the basic monsters are pretty boring.
Also the girls running over the MC and making him clean and cook gets old pretty quickly. The MC almost always seems to be in a "male worker" outfit. I guess it's the main premise of the show, that the MC is a "slave", but in the combat scenes the MC seems to be a pretty
...
important part of the squad, with the "slave" gimmick simply being a collar and the excuse for the "reward". They didnt have to make him a maid/cook too, but they did, and apparently he likes it and is very good at cleaning and cooking. He takes great care into this "not even a real member of the squad" role. I guess if you are an actual masochist, you might like this premise, but again not for me.
Like I said I came here for the fan service and the fact that even in the previews, the guy seems to be pretty powerful and the slave thing seemed to not be like a real actual slave but a power. In the end, while it is like that in the combat scenes, the MC is more than happy to become an actual servant in his off-time.
Overall I give it 6 for the fan service and cool, but barely shown, main villains.

For a gimmick Isekai anime, it was surprising. It didn't feel cliché at all. There are many characters all with different powers, sages and even invaders from "other worlds". Also, the real world is represented, when in many Isekai you barely see it and then forget about it, in fact the MC gets his OP power from the real world and not the Isekai, and I thought this was a very original trope.
Now there are many many deaths and you realize the MC isn't a typical "hero" character but actually a kind of like a roman god that doesn't follow idealistic human morality, another point
...
that is quite original. I really liked too that the real world scientists who know about the MC are terrified of him, basically like he is a horror movie monster, but at the same time he seems to just be a normal kid, one that was bestowed a ridiculously overpowered ability that kills everyone instantly of course. And when you think about it, a kid bestowed with such an ability that sometimes activates automatically, well he would use it probably in a manner similar to this anime, at least in self defense and when he senses people want to kill him.
Even inside the main Isekai, there are many different settings with very different cities and people in them. From episode to episode, the settings vastly changes and there are many different races and factions that battle in the background, with their own quests and biases.
For it's originality, it's worth a watch, this isn't your typical gimmick Isekai anime. Although I guess it's easy to miss the original nuances and dismiss this show as just a nonsense op mc gimmick.

This is the first "real" anime I watched if you don't count mainstream ones like Pokémon, Sakura cardholder and Dragon Ball that appeared on cable TV.
And it's kind of unfortunate. Why? Because it got my expectations WAY up for all other Animes I watched after that. "Oh, THIS is Anime? Cool! That means there's hundreds of other shows just like this one?" Welp, nope. There's only one Berserk.
Some people say the graphics are dated and I'll admit the dub is cheesy, like most if not all dubs during that time period. But the first time I watched this, it was nothing but the coolest
...
shit I ever saw. I loved the heaviness of the sword impacting and destroying armor. The slow burn toward the plot twists and revelations. The first episode is out of order and you see Guts as the full fledged black swordsman, a dude with a giant sword, a repeating crossbow and arm cannon like Megaman. Then, you jump into realistic looking medieval setting in the past, complete with ballroom scenes with harpsichord music. And finally, in the last two episodes, you understand why and how Guts became the black swordsman with the Eclipse.
But far and beyond the best thing about this Anime, better than Zod, better than the medieval battles and yes better than a repeating crossbow and arm cannon, is the relationship between Guts and Griffith which reach a figurative and literal climax in the final episode. The contrast between Guts as a kid, through bad luck his body and mind forged by warfare and violence to become a muscular, nearly unidimensional brute, with the innate talent, charismatic finesse and boundless ambition of Griffith is incredible. This is simply peak characterization, and it shows by how many characters those two have influenced. A quick example, only Cloud and Sephiroth from FF7?
When Griffith, who so far has only known victory and success, loses Guts to a duel, his whole world is turned upside down. His one-man army leaves him, and he acts brashly, which leads to the mistake which leaves him debilitated and then makes him choose to sacrifice the Band of the Hawk to become a God Hand. The perfect Griffith, loses to Guts, and he cannot take it, and it leads him to become a literal Demon Lord. Before this, Guts could not accept a life of comfort, and simply decides to leave the Band of the Hawk because he only knows war. If he had accepted his new life as a lord/knight, the whole Griffith Demon Lord thing would not have happened. So who's fault is it, the bonehead Guts who can't stop fighting wars, or the Perfect Griffith for misjudging Guts and forgetting his own training, leading to his inadequacy in the duel? Ultimately this leads to one of the biggest acts of betrayal in all of fiction.
Here's a critique of Berserk I read in another review "Guts, what a stupid name!". It's a Japanese anime. It's Gatsu, and to Japanese people, it's an exotic sounding name. Sure it can sound stupid in English, but if you can't understand that anime is Japanese, you're the stupid one. Here's another very common critique of this anime, "The Manga is better". Well, I won't argue with you, but this is still one of the best Animes, even incomplete, even in 4:5 format and with the cheesy English dub(what true anime fan watches dubs anyway?). As for music, Guts theme became a meme in itself and is a poignant and mystical theme song. Another song I really like is "Forces", used when the Band of the Hawk charges an enemy camp. It fits perfectly.
This anime is a masterpiece.

Du du du du du du du So cute! du du du Touching!
Du du du du du du du So cool! du du du Charming!
WARNING: This anime is for Cultural Researchers only. People who aren't appreciators of High Culture, beware!
What happens when a Magical Girl otaku becomes an Evil Magical Girl? Well, of course, soft Magical Girl BDSM!
This anime knows what it's about and doesn't pretend it's something else. It's about cute magical girls being "Oh No! I lost all my clothes!"ed and made to moan by numerous ridiculous ways. There is a minor school slice of life part where the girls interact
...
with each other at school without knowing they are enemies, because of the obscuring power of Magical Girls preventing other people from knowing who their real identities are even if they show their face. But apart from that, it's about the main character undressing magical girls and, well, sexually harassing them using various monsters she can summon with her new evil wand. But it's OKAY because they seem to like it, right?
8/10 Cultural Masterpiece. This show deserves a spot in preservation nuclear bunkers and those satellites we send to aliens that show the best humanity has to offer.

A single japanese youth with no name, L, is better than all the best detectives and intelligence agencies of the world! Then of course lighto-kun only has 100% on all tests and is olympic medalist tennis player... Just like L! And then L finds out about Light being Kira in the first 10 episodes, yet doesnt arrest him because... The anime would end right there. So L won yet the anime continues because "he's not 100% sure".
This is what happens when characters are "too intelligent" for the anime. The superintelligent better than CIA/NSA/Mossad/all other UN intelligence put together L finds Kira in less than
...
a week but takes a month to "make sure". I could never get over this hurdle to the plot, and everything that happens afterwards is what I would call "intelligent character porn".
But of course Death Note at least as redeeming factors. The concept of the Death Note book is pretty creative itself, the characters themselves are good, L, despite the fact I think he's a little too good at being a detective, is still a pretty good character too.
The music is good too, I could hear the Madhouse before looking if it was them.
But ultimately, it's this one plot mistake that spoils most of the show for me after L and Light start "working together to find Kira" while L's suspect #1 is Light. How does it make sense that L finds some guy who uses a notebook to kill people anonymously in under a week, considering he could have been in any country in the world, yet needs a month to make sure it's him? It just doesnt make sense. It doesnt.
6/10 upgraded to 7/10 due to Madhouse cinematography

Since this season got 8/10, I felt like I'd give Overlord a go since I stopped watching season 1 due to nonsensical plot.
I was wrong. There is no redeeming value, simply the people who continued to watch season 4 are the people who enjoyed the first 3 seasons, so of course they would rate it high.
Towards the end of season 4, I was really rooting for the antagonist to kill Ainz. Ainz is singlehandledly the most boring MC I ever had the mispleasure of watching, and the pain continued for 4 whole seasons. This is a power fantasy for people who enjoy beating single
...
player games with cheat codes.
Now not only do we jump into the "game" in episode one, but Ainz does not react at all from being stuck in the game except a few sentences like "the server didnt shut down in the end" and "wow the NPCs talk now". Apart from that, he's all in for living inside the game, forgetting his real life which we don't see at all. How much sense does this make? None. None at all. The person behind Ainz would need to be a sociopath doubled with sudden amnesia for this reaction to make any sense. Basically the maker of this show wanted to surf the Isekai wave, so they made the minimum amount of effort so that this is considered an Isekai, and thats it.
The overpoweredness is overbearing. There is no tension. We see the antagonists, or NPCs, talk to each other most of the time without Ainz. But this is senseless, because Ainz just comes in and sweeps them with one move. The humor not only falls flat, but I fail to even understand it, not because it's too complex, but because the humor is just weird. Like most of the jokes is Ainz inward monologue saying to himself "omg! why did this NPC react like this!" It's not funny. He has multiple female NPCs in love with him but is too much of a virgin to do anything. NPCs keep telling him how wise and machievelian he is, that he's the most intelligent supreme being. Then sometimes he's modest, sometimes he's not. Sometimes he's lenient and spares lives, sometimes he's ruthless and kills people. Why? No fucking idea. No explanation. He's just the best and knows everything, so I guess that's the explanation? No even that doesnt make sense.
Ainz's minions keep sucking his dick throughout the show. "You're the best supreme being!" "Please sit on me Supreme Being!" Yes I'm not kidding, a supposedly honor-bound warrior lieutenant begs to be sat on. Then a young boy elf begs to sit on his lap, which is pretty damn weird, and then his right hand girl Albedo is jealous and wants to sit on his lap too. It's so cringe.
Also, the dialogue when Ainz is not there and the NPCs are mostly boring. You really don't give a damn whether or not they're going to die or get conquered, and ultimately they get owned by Ainz in one move. The politics are boring and very surface level. Theres an empire and a kingdom. They both have multiple characters that are all less powerful than Ainz and all the characters of this show are either boring or mid as fuck. My favourite character was the Butler, and he is the focus of only one or two episodes which were the best ones, but considering this show has like 20 characters more important than him, it's simply not worth it.
Clearly, this show must be for people who never got any respect their whole lives and have a deep fantasy of being a Mary Sue. Because that's what Ainz is, a Mary Sue that can't do anything wrong ever, even when it doesnt make any sense at all.

This show is way underrated. Why? Because unfortunately, I regard it more as historical allegory than fiction. There's actually a lot of fiction who hides historical facts between the lines.
I can already hear your skepticism. But read on... If you dare.
The truth is that the Elite of the world, no matter the country, have always been above the law. Sometimes more, sometimes less, but always. And as they say "The winners write history." Napoleon himself said that history was just a series of convenient lies. After all, he forged his bloodline to royalty, being from Corsica, and made the Pope make him Emperor. Another Movie
...
I consider a docufiction, is "Hostel". And yes, it goes all the way to the current day, although I won't name anyone currently alive.
Let's take instead examples from mainstream history. Vlad the Impaler, also called Vlad Dracula, the inspiration for vampires and the fictional Dracula, impaled tens of thousands of people. Another real historical person, Elizabeth Bathory, the blood countess, bathed in the blood of virgins to appear younger. When the public found this out, they sentenced her to be walled inside a small room, with only a trap to give her food. Then, we have the Marquis the Sade, who brutally raped multiple of his servants in most sadistic ways, both male and female. In fact, the word Sadistic comes from his own NAME. There are also a lot of servant disappearances wherever he went, and although he was jailed multiple times, he was always released, due to his high status as a Nobleman. My last example, the inspiration for the French fairy tale Barbe Bleu(Bluebeard), Gilles de Rais, a companion knight of Joan of Arc herself, was found to be a serial torturer, killer and rapist of children. He was executed publicly in France.
Other examples of war crimes and crimes against humanity abound in warfare, committed by soldiers. If soldiers can commit atrocities on all sides during war, why would it be so hard to believe that elites sometimes indulge in the same at home? An horrible thought indeed... And also unfortunate.
This is why I liked this show so much. Because it shows a solution to the problem.

Did you like Sword Art Online but wish there was an anime with less plot and more nudity?
You're at the right place!
While the main plot of the anime advances very slowly as we get treated to a lot of exposition about the inner workings of the "game", which has become real life for the MC, we also get some violence and more fan service. Someone who has seen SOA will be able to see many similarities, especially with the Aincrad ark.
While SAO's plot goes faster and is more built, the one of Isekai Harem is slower but also less cringe. If you remember cringing
...
at Kirito and Asuna "vacation" episodes where they miraculously find a kid that looks like it could be their daughter(Yui), there's nothing similar in this one. If you have seen many Isekai anime, nothing much will surprise you in Isekai Harem, except the amount of nudity scenes and sometimes seemingly gratuitous NPC violence.
Another theme I havent talked about yet but I'm sure you've read about in the popular reviews, is the "sex slave" theme. Well, if youre offended by that, you might not like the anime. If youre able to separate fiction from reality, or simply horny enough, it probably wont matter to you though.
All in all, considering the "ecchi softporn" genre, I give this Anime an 8. Why so high? Well, this is an adaptation of one of the first Isekai books out there, so it gets bonus points for being OG, even if the Anime is late. Another thing I like is that it has an adult take on sexual relationships. No forever virgin MC in this one, where all you get is hands touching after 100 episodes and 40 interrupted kisses. Also, I think the nudity adds to the story, but maybe I'm just a pervert.

Spy x Family is a show that doesn't fully live up to it's concept.
While it's one of the few shows to combine the worlds of spies, assassins and espers into one, it then fails to realize the potential of this mix-up and proceeds to be a mediocre romcom instead. While it sells the show on this concept of 3 different exceptional people forming a family, you end up not seeing much other spies, assassins or espers, and instead watch the relationships of those 3 characters grow. The main plot seems secondary to the relationships, and the humor is few and cute rather than really funny.
...
The show focuses more on the traditional japanese family lifestyle rather than the supposed cold war era spy world that is the setting. Complete with pressure on Anya to be accepted and perform in a prestigious school, Yor being a good housewife, and Loid learning to trust and care for his family, this is in fact nothing but the life of a mundane Japanese family, with exceptional abilities and an exceptional setting put on top of it.
The dialog, artstyle and production arent that bad, but the show honestly becomes tedious, especially in the moments that focus more on family building, which is most of the show.
Imagine how cool this show could have been, the family defending itself from a conspiracy of spies, assassins and espers, being besieged from all sides from different shadowy organizations... Instead, we get a sentimental romcom that approaches more the melodrama than the really clever. There could still have been plenty of emotional and family building around this, the family could have "kept together against all odds and shadowy organization hellbent on destroying them" but no, instead we get 3 awkward people struggling to make it in society, with a sprinkle of spy backstory here and there.

So I think there's a lot of VN fans that are hating on this. I read half of the VN which amounts to 14 hours and honestly the writing was way too slow pace. This anime has better pace, although it does skip a lot of character interaction during the training/school part.
The opening song is awesome! Good opening song is enough for anime to be a bit more enjoyable.
The Beta CGI is not that good but they manage to capture the feel of Beta battles anyway, which is horror. It was the same in the VN, and it does achieve some of that altough
...
a bit more limited in the anime.
So lets talk about why the VN fans are so mad. The anime skips a lot of rapport scenes between the characters so you dont get to know a lot of the main heroines that fall in love with the MC in the VN. Personally I dont mind the skip and understand it since its a lot of set up for romance and the story isnt only about that and very long, but they end up skipping the vast majority of it. Even then this comes as a boost in the pace of the anime which I welcome. Also, the hair of the heroines in the VN is often in the shape of "cat ears" and Im pretty sure a lot of sweaty nerds are mad that they dont look so much like cat ears in the anime lol but I really dont mind.
Then there is the civil war arc which in the VN was SO LONG. Here it ends up only taking a handful of episodes which is way easier to digest.
Overall I think this is a very well made adaptation and better to watch this than the VN imo because its too long and altough its sold as a nukige and the romance are so long theres only 2 H scenes one of which is tentacles... So yeah, better just get the story which is pretty cool in shortened format like this. Waiting for season 2!
