1. "They seem to be stretching out the plot as much as they can": Naoki Urasawa himself said several times that the Monster adaptation is exactly as it was in the manga, and he wanted it to be exactly like that. Monster's pace is a slow one because you have to take the time to establish the storyline and why you need to be invested in the MC's conflict. The last seven episodes completely change the pace, as everything that has been built up throughout the series comes to a really, really thrilling climax. It's right there that you'll see that the slow pace is worth it.
2. "the Protagonist is naive as fuck, who can't make up his mind if he wanna kill the antagonist or not": The protagonist has a name and it's Dr. Kenzo Tenma (It's a hard name to forget). Sure, at the beginning, the guy's pretty naive, what with him believing Eva actually loved him and all, but his life comes crashing down on him so that his naivety can disappear. If anything, Dr. Tenma is the antithesis of naive (the guy has personally witnessed humanity's most vile acts firsthand). And, about killing Johan (also a really hard name to forget), Dr. Tenma has wanted to kill him since the beginning but he slowly realizes that Johan isn't as evil as he thought he was; Tenma sees the good in Johan when virtually no one else does and this is why he hesitates to kill. Tenma only seeks to talk to Johan, to discover why Johan is the way he is, and he finally gets the chance at the serie's climax.
3. "The curve fell off sharply after about around 30 EPS in": Sure, the story kinda meandered after Richard Braun's death but those other episodes were about the other characters waiting for Johan's nexst big move and attempting to stop him. After that classic episode "Execution", Monster waited a bit before returning to form in episode 34 and a few episodes later, the peak of the Schuwald Arc arrives with episodes 38 and 39. The thing is, Monster's curve never really fell off and, if it did, the show recovered its curve pretty easily.
4. "The characters' have no unique personality whatsoever": Good luck trying to find another Johan in any other anime series and, for that matter, you just finished episode 42. EPISODE 42! There's no way you're telling me that anyone in K-On (which is in your favorites) is more well-written than Grimmer.
Conclusion: With the points I just raised, I really recommend you finish the series and if you can't, just start over Monster and watch it again because you're really going in with the wrong mindset.
I've read three manga from Naoki Urasawa and there where no definite ending in all of them, at least the ending does not feel like such; apparently this is the author's unique trait lol.
You use the word fuck way too much.
There's your problem. It all comes together in the end.
seems like you're fairly new to MAL. how did you find it?
