First of all, I should say that this show is rather dark, sad, and depressive. More than just an average crime drama. It doesn't have anything to lighten up the mood and is also realistic.
Usually, shows like this have action-packed scenes like brawling, car chase, or some gun fights to take your mind off the heavy stuff like people being murdered in the cold blood. Otherwise, there are scenes from the main character's daily life that usually have some relaxing context: colleagues joking around or discussing some silly everyday stuff or relatives that spend their time at home in a relaxing way.
"My home hero"
...
won't give you any such pause to get your wits together. It will put pressure on you even when it is supposed to relax its grip a bit. This makes the show rather mentally taxing, even overbearing. So that's the biggest minus in my opinion. But while this is a minus for me, someone might find such a narrative to be gritty and unforgiving, which could be good in its own way.
Artstyle and animation 8/10
"My home hero" is a bit lacking in this department. But the lack of quality is barely noticeable because the art style adds to the whole atmosphere of the show. The style doesn't distract and it is good enough to immerse you in the scene. It's actually very fitting for the show because the drawing and animations are similar to the family in the story's focus: average, non-assuming.
If I were to highlight something, that would be facial expressions and animations. They are really good. They deliver the message.
Music and sound effects 8/10
Every sound and melody adds to the mood. And again, nothing distracts you from what is happening on a screen. The music won't catch your attention, but also won't shatter the suspense, which is very good in my opinion. The quality of voice acting is great.
Story and narrative 9/10
While it's too early to say how good or bad the story is, so far the storytelling was good. Screenwriter uses parallel storytelling through background narratives (like news flashes, tv shows, or dialogues that are not directly relevant to the main story) to confer the mood and state of mind of the main characters. The storytelling pace might be a bit faster than you would expect, but the suspense is there, so you can barely catch a breath between scenes. As a drawback, it also puts a lot of pressure on a viewer.
Total 9/10
If I were to quantify the overall quality, I would give the show itself 8 out of 10, but I gave it a slightly higher score because we rarely get such a good story as an anime show. Yes, criminal dramas or detective stories might provide a better experience in this genre, but those are separate mediums in my opinion. And in anime, realistic criminal thrillers are far and between.

This anime is quite relaxing and inspiring. The story develops at its own pace, not rushing things and not making long pauses. You won't find here any evil plots or mind boggling time travel mechanics. Everything in the story is rather simple, and sometimes even reduced to quite basic elements. Like characters, for example.
Story-wise, everything is written in pastel tones with small areas of bright color to add accents. I think, it suits the mood of the anime well, and provides audience with a clear view at what is important in the anime.
The important things are in line with the genre: friendship and love,
...
pursuit of the goals, growing up. But these important things are shown in somewhat unusual way, with some magic involved in everyday life (but not too much), so it makes all the world of difference.
The romance part of the anime will stir some feelings inside of you, but not in a way, that you feel like a wretch the whole day afterwards. I would say, that this part is quite gentle, like the anime itself. More like something to think about, but not to dwell too much.
If you would like a monochrome slice of life with a bit of magic in it, don't look any further, it gently landed in your hands like a feather, and will probably be swept away from your mind like a feather too.

As usual in a sports genre, this anime is a good introductory piece. If you're somehow interested in dancing, do not hesitate, watch it. Also, sports genre fans should like it.
Others, who are not into dancing or sports, probably should try it just because the theme is quite unique. The plot development tempo is good, you won't get bored, I guarantee. While the characters and their motives are quite usual for this genre, they interact in unusual ways. There is some humor too. In conclusion, you won't even notice how the episodes' number increments before you get to the end.
The animation style is a
...
bit unfamiliar. But as soon as you get used to it, you shall find that it is both smooth and dynamic.
The music is good, and in important moments it becomes superb.
The dancing itself is fun to watch. It is enjoyable and also you won't be confused because of any lack of understanding. Scenario will provide you with all necessary information about dancing.
I would give this title a score between 8 and 9, but due to the lack of really interesting heroes I stay with 8 for now.

After you have finished watching "Made in Abyss" you would want to find something similar. I strongly recommend reading Roadside Picnic by Strugatsky. There are too many similar lines to ignore the possibility that the author of Made in Abyss got his inspiration from the notorious novel.
As for the anime itself... The beginning may be slow for your taste and without clear incentive for you to watch. The characters also won't provide any attraction to the plot at first. While the female protagonist is driven by her goals, you won't get any sufficient reasoning for a long time. Don't be discouraged. You will get
...
everything you want from this anime. Really, it's one of those rare titles in which flaws only underline its perfectness in every other aspect.

"He will win who knows when to fight and when not to fight." Sun Tzu
Now this is lame. Absolutely lame. To start with a quote.
Sure. I suppose we got tired of quotes here on the Internet. So you can skip this review, because nothing useful usually follows the quotation.
And you hate reverse psychology being applied on you.
And you dislike shallow characters in anime as well as template scenarios.
And you probably right.
Not this time. While the anime is full of uninteresting characters that find themselves in mundane situations and interact in absolutely predictable ways, you might enjoy the rare opportunity of being
...
surprised in the end. And I don't mean that in the end the hero pulls a rabbit from a hat, as the usual smarter-than-you boy would do. That is given. No, in the end you will reassess the hero and his whole motivation.
If you enjoy when plot makes you retract your train of thought and rethink the deeds of a hero from the beginning, watch this anime. But be warned, there is only one interesting character in the anime and probably none at all.

kind of a thought experiment.
Imagine a library. You open a book and its empty. You open next book and it contains a single letter A. You make a few steps and the book you pick up contains dozen letters 'a'. In the next row you find a book with a 'b' letter. And book with 'c' letter in the next. The library is infinite. It contains books with all possible combination of letters. It contains all Shakespeare works. It contains my review. It contains book with accurate description of cancer cure. And it contains all the printed plots and their variations of all anime titles.
...
Including Sakurada Reset. There is a better plot somewhere. But it will take multiple lifetimes to find it. So you enjoy the one you just randomly picked up.
Don't expect realistic setting in this anime. It is too idealistic. And somewhat meditative. Four words to describe it are: "moral compass", "thought process". It is more about thinking and analyzing feelings, not actually feeling.
So, if you like thinking, consider watching this anime in near future, you may enjoy it. You will find riddles and you may solve them. And be prepared to consider it a
