Hmm do you have example of the kind of obscure anime you would avoid. I'd watch almost anything as well but i generally don't prefer idol titles but i haven't given any idol type anime a try yet. I am not sure i'll like it.
Ah i think Shirobako is a bit similiar to bakuman, at least the manga industry part. I planned to watch it when it started to air, but it was right around the time i stopped watching airing eps i think.
Japan seems like a lovely place to visit. Kinda want to see what the hype is about! I have visited Hong Kong and I think the experience will be kind of similiar maybe. The language barrier is an issue, even if i visit there on a 15 day visa i wouldn't be able to make any friends there! Same issue in HK. It would be fun to learn japanese seriously i guess but just to use it for a couple weeks on a trip to japan, idk.

Well Bakuman is a shounen afterall and i think you don't really like shounen that much. But it's unlike other shounen. It's more motivation + drama type. I like it but it's also really long too, so it's a nice buffer content to play sometimes. Idk abt learing japanese from it but you might learn a lot about how the manga and anime industry is like in Japan. But it probably doesn't highlight everything abt the industry, just lightly skims on it. I haven't thought of learning japanese seriously, i can't think of it being useful other then a possiblity of a 15 day tourism visa visit to Japan lol

It is rather long with 3 seasons, 24 ep each season i think. I have rewatched it all a couple times now. I just leave it on while multitasking sometimes

Np. They adapted from the manga 1:1. So just the anime is good on it's own. Probably better. I didn't expect the anime to do so well. I guess anime viewers were a bit starved for wholesome titles at the time.

I guess i could recommed bakuman anime. It's typical shounen but not a action battle type. Just motivating in a different way. You could watch it anytime and you don't have to like it lol
