Usually, when you carve a wooden sculpture you don’t expect it to turn into a person, right? Well, unfortunately for Jin, that’s not the case. Kannagi is an anime that revolves around the concept of land gods that live inside trees. It seems that the wood that Jin used is actually the trunk of a sacred tree and summons the god Nagi. What a coincidence! Set on these premises, Kannagi starts of wonderfully but for some reason, ends up horribly. Why? Let’s see…
First of all, it’s the story. After that coincidence of summoning Nagi, what was supposed to happen next is that they will be
...
exterminating impurities disguised as bugs. Unfortunately, that never happened. What happened is that Kannagi drifted away from its concept of going for a mahou shoujo type anime without the frilly clothes and magic beams flying around. Instead, it opted for a slice of life type anime, complete with some references to series like lucky star and almost completely threw away the concept it created during the first 3 or so episodes. Also, if that wasn’t bad enough, somewhere in the middle it suddenly turns into a harem type anime with three girls competing for the MC. Then during the last couple of episodes or so, they suddenly reverted back to their original concept, in hopes of tying up all of the loose ends. Now, there lies the problem. Kannagi wasn’t able to focus on anything. It kept on switching and switching between genres and in the end, it left without answering any of the questions it raised during progression of the series. Also, besides leaving unanswered questions, it also leaves an open ending, and as a series which left too much to ponder upon, it left a very bitter taste in my mouth. So in the end, the problems of Kannagi lies within its plot; It was indecisive of what it wanted to become and has way to many plotholes.
Now, even though it had a terrible plot, the reason I was able to watch through the entire series is because of the character development and interactions. You can see the characters developing from bland, generic anime characters into somewhat loveable ones, although they are still far from perfect. You see, even though they are loveable, they still resemble some anime stereotypes and are not really all that unique. That isn’t where Kannagi shines though. Where Kannagi truly shines is in the interactions between the characters and the weird situations they are thrown in. These moments are where the characters develop and the story progresses as well as when we get to see the inner thoughts of the characters. Some of these moments can range from something as missing an airing episode of Nagi’s favorite anime up to Jin becoming the subject of gossip of his entire school. Unfortunately though, these moments don’t really contribute much to the story and only creates and more confusion for the viewers. It does however, manage to entertain despite all of the confusion it creates, so it’s still enjoyable enough to keep me watching.
That, along the animation and sound of the Kannagi managed to at least make the series somewhat acceptable. The animation was clean, smooth and well-done overall, and with a little touch of moe here and there, it gives a pleasant feeling to watch. The opening, , had an upbeat and catchy tune to it and the ending has a bit of a mysterious and sad feel to it which was quite contradictory with the opening. The voice acting is also worth mentioning. I gotta give props to Nagi’s voice actor because Nagi’s voice was just, wow. It fits her personality so perfectly that I wouldn’t want it any other way.
Now, even with these good compliments that I made to Kannagi, I still can’t disregard the fact that its plot sucked. Still though, this is in no way a terrible anime. Deep inside me, something is telling me that I might be being biased but really, it made me laugh, it gave me a great time and it gave back a nice amount of entertainment for the time I spent watching it. It still is far from a masterpiece but if you have nothing else to watch and just seek a couple of hours of entertainment, Kannagi could be a good anime to watch. I don’t highly recommend it but if you have some spare time then why not give it a shot? Who knows, you might actually like it.

Another vampire anime, how lame. Normally, this is how people would react to anything with vampires in them ever since the boom of the vampire industry not so long ago. However, that is not the case with Hellsing: Ultimate, an OVA remake of the original Hellsing anime. Now the question is what exactly sets it apart from those cliché vampire shows that everyone got bored of? Does it set a new standard for modern anime? Did it revolutionize the vampire genre? Is it a marvelous masterpiece that could possibly revitalize the dying hype for vampires? Possibly, but of course, as with all anime, it came
...
with its own flaws and of course, that is the reason that I’m writing this review; to give a detailed analysis of this series.
Probably one of the things that will either make you love or hate Hellsing is its overwhelming use of gore. I for one happen to love it, but if you are haemophobic or otherwise disgusted by blood spattering and mutilated body parts flying all over the place, then I discourage you from watching this anime, because not only will it turn you off, I’ll probably nauseate you to the point of disgust. This however, is what sets it apart from all the other vampire-themed anime. Hellsing is completely unique with the fact that it consists of lots mindless slaughter and violence. It doesn’t mess around with concepts that has already been explored already like harems, creating countries, and love triangles but instead just goes back to the very roots of what vampires really supposed to be, which is purely terrifying. Hellsing portrayed what vampires are truly supposed to be which are horrifying blood-sucking monsters that hunger for death and violence, who bring destruction and chaos wherever they go, and not cute, bishounen loverboys who fawn over women. One last thing is that unlike others, Hellsing exudes a creepy aura, as well as a tense and ominous feeling to it, setting up nice atmosphere for the all-important plot.
The plot is straightforward, yet highly effective. It goes something like this: One night, a certain place called Cheddar Village was overtaken by a vampires and almost all of its population has been completely transformed into ghouls. Seras Victoria, a policewoman was fighting amidst of that town was taken hostage by the vampire, who plans to drink her blood and turn her into a vampire. Unfortunately for that vampire though, a vampire by the name of Alucard was dispatched by Britain’s special taskforce, the Hellsing Organization. Seras was then mortally wounded, but right before she died, Alucard gave her a choice: to die or to become a vampire. Now, that pretty much sums up the first 10 minutes of the first OVA. I won’t give any spoilers, but I can assure you, the story develops at a very comfortable pace, and also gets deeper and deeper with each episode. It doesn’t mess around or beats around the bush, most of the time the anime would either be busy advancing the story and developing the plot and the rest of the time is spent with revealing the character’s pasts and creating conversations between characters which reveals their ideals and personalities, all of which contribute heavily to the character development. There are moments though wherein the anime gives us a breather from all the action and switches into a somewhat silly, cartoon-like animation that consists of slapstick comedy and dark humor that is highly contradictory to the theme of the show. This however is kept minimal and is mostly happens at the very start of each episode, and it somehow compensates for Hellsing’s lack of an opening. Now, even though I said that the story is quite straightforward, do not be fooled, there are some surprising plot twists in the story, and because of its seemingly straightforward plot, it can really catch you off guard and cause quite a bit of a shock. One last thing that I would like to mention is that each episode of the OVA is quite long - roughly 45 minutes each without the ending credits. So somehow, each episode feels like a short film in itself, and that works really well too, because it leaves a satisfying feeling after you finish an episode yet still keep you interested enough to make you anticipate for the next one.
But even with the already tense and creepy atmosphere as well as the wonderfully paced plot, the main selling point of Hellsing is as one would expect, the main character Alucard. He is exactly what a real vampire should be; Bloodthirsty and violent yet charming and elegant in his own way. He is what one would call a near-perfect anti hero. As the saying goes, either you die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become a villain. This quote perfectly describes Alucard entirely. As he was already alive since the times of the crusades, he has seen all of the dirt and grit of this world, and as an effect, he turned into a sinister being, one who only longer only lives to find an equal who can slay him, yet actually caring enough to his master and servant, and pities those who tried their hardest to kill him. Of course, as with all main characters there always has to be a rival. Here comes the legendary priest, Alexander Anderson. At the very first time I laid eyes on him, my very first impression of him was that he was a deranged madman, a person who lusts for battle, a person who will never defy an order and kill everyone he was ordered to, regardless of what happens to anyone around him. I was wrong though, because as the story advanced, his story was revealed, piece by piece and he was shown to be a very caring person, who owes great loyalty to his organization and is willing to sacrifice his life for the sake of his comrades. These are only some of the most important characters in Hellsing though, and although I only mentioned two of them, there are other interesting and equally important characters as well, but I won’t spoil it for you because I want you to know them for yourselves.
All of this, coupled with an exquisite animation really makes Hellsing a sight to see. The visuals were quite unique, emphasizing on the blood and the facial expressions of the characters. Everything, from that slight, contorted smile up to that evil, maniacal laughing expression was done perfectly. The problem is, even though the character designs are done well, there seems to be a reoccurring problem in the series which is the repeated drop in quality in some parts, but then suddenly turn HD in other parts. This seems like it was done deliberately to save money, as the ones with low quality are only during the dull moments and the fight scenes were the ones done with utmost care. Don’t worry though, these minor setbacks aren’t really that big of a deal, especially when you’re focused deeply into the story.
For my final sentiments, I wouldn’t say that Hellsing is a new masterpiece of some sort, but it did manage to deviate from the norm and become a cut above the rest. It was a pleasure to watch, and I encourage everyone who wants to see something different from all of the other cliché vampire romances to go and see this anime. It was a worthwhile watch, and I’m certain that the time you will invest into this anime will not go to waste.

Well, here comes Zero no Tsukaima, a harem-type anime with a tsundere for a main heroine. Another harem anime? Haven’t we had enough of this already? Yep, here’s another anime with a cliché characters, a subpar plot, and a ridiculous amount of fanservice. What? Seriously? Yes, seriously. Zero no Tsukaima is just another one of those terrible animes that people would consider crap. But why? Wasn’t J.C. Staff the one who made this anime? I mean, J.C staff was pretty successful with Toradora! Wasn’t it? Well you see, Zero no Tsukaima is one of those “failures”, so to speak. It failed in almost every
...
aspect and is actually a terrible anime despite its huge fanbase. Why is that you ask? Well, I’ll give you the reasons why. Also, I would like you to know that this would be a review for the entire series and not just for this season. Now let’s move on to the review.
Story: The all-important story. Every anime needs a good, gripping story to entertain its viewers right? Well unfortunately, Zero no Tsukaima( which I will just abbreviate to ZnT for simplicity’s sake.) failed to deliver this all-important part of an anime. To tell you frankly, it had a great concept of what it was going to be. A simple summary of the story would be that Saito, a normal, everyday teenager was suddenly dragged into an unknown world and made a familiar by a magician nicknamed as Zero Louise, due to her lack of talent in using magic. It then turns out that the reason Louise can’t use magic efficiently Is because she only excels in a special, legendary type of magic which is void magic and that Saito is the knight of legend, Gandalfr. From that simple summary, one can guess that this would be an epic tale about two legends, trying to fulfill their destinies while encountering numerous hardships along the way, all while developing a romantic relationship between the two. Unfortunately though, the author just decided to go “Fuck that shit, who needs a decent plot when we got a tsundere main heroine, a pevert main hero, lots of tits and an entire harem at our disposal?” Yes, this is exactly what happened to ZnT. Instead of creating an intricate and enjoyable story and focusing on developing the plot, they just decided to give us a crap ton of fanservice, tits, a harem, and then proceeded to screw up the plot and rely on half-baked comedy and tits to try and hook its viewers. Although this would have worked if done correctly, even the comedic side was done half-baked. One of the running gags in ZnT is that the MC, Saito, is an idiot who cannot seem to be able to hold in his boner and literally just drools of every boob he sees, and then proceeds to get dragged into the most awkward circumstances, and then gets beaten up by Louise. It was funny the first time but after seeing it in every single episode that had a scene wherein the MC interacts with a girl (which is like every fucking episode) it got old so much that it only served to annoy me every time it happens. So yeah, the comedy part was pretty horrid, but what exactly happened to the plot then? Well, as you would expect, the plot turned into a complete mush that only serves to further Saito’s harem(I would explain his harem later) and to create more opportunities for them to insert their stupid gag instead of actually developing the plot. I mean seriously, the plot had more plotholes than there are pimples on a boy going through puberty and had as much plot development as a porn flick. Yes, it’s that terrible. But seriously though, the series doesn’t even have a proper antagonist. In each season, a new antagonist is introduced, then they try to set up a scene where the MCs will fight the antagonist, only for the antagonist to be killed/go MIA in an instant, never to be seen or mentioned in the story ever again. So for short, not only doesn’t ZnT have a proper plot, it also doesn’t have a proper antagonist. The last thing that I would like to mention is about the lack of details and proper explanations in ZnT. Now, this is a common problem among a lot of animes, but ZnT just took it to new extremes. There are so many instances wherein inexplicably unbelievable things just happen. It seems that every time something bad happens, some incredible “coincidences” just happen for some reason. Like for example, in one instance, MC Saito is trapped in a room with only a brick wall separating him from his enemies and apparent death, but then guess what? MC Louise “accidentally” learns teleportation magic and teleports him and his friends to safety. Such ridiculous plot armor only exists in fairy tales, and in my opinion it is completely retarded to even try to incorporate them into anime. To sum it all up, I give it a 4/10, just because it is utterly ridiculous up to the point that they might as well add “the power of love” as one their plot armors. Oh wait, they already did, Stupid me.
Characters: As I’ve said before, ZnT is an anime focused on making scenarios wherein they could add ecchi and add more members to Saito’s harem. As such, one can expect that the characters are really bland. For one, there is ABSOLUTELY no character development in this anime, none whatsoever. I mean seriously, the main character Saito, a perverted, two-timing guy who has as much sex appeal as Makoto from school days is still the same character he is four seasons after he appeared. Louise, a tsundere loli who only is Saito’s master and supposed “lover” is still the same stereotype anime girl who always gets into trouble and has to be saved by Saito. Then there’s Siesta, a typical maid who becomes a bitch after she falls in love Saito turns into a slutty bitch after who does absolutely nothing but press her boobs onto Saito in hopes of getting noticed after four seasons. After that, there’s Tabitha, your typical silent, mysterious girl stereotype that has as many expressions as Kristen Stewart who is still the same girl she is after four seasons, with the exception of being able to blush and sneaking into Saito’s bed while hoping to get laid or something(no really I’m serious). Then comes in Princess Henrietta, a stereotype girl who seems refined and stoic outside, but apparently has a habit of seducing our MC Saito whenever no one’s around. And finally, Tiffania, your typical air-headed girl with huge, f-cup boobs that always gets into “unfortunate” accidents with the MC is still the same air-headed girl with huge tits when the story ends. You see, there’s your problem; The supposed main characters are all bitches who could all have had a good, deep personality in them are all reduced into mere bitches who fight over Saito’s attention. Now, although there a lot of instances wherein their characters could’ve been fleshed out, like when their back story is explored in an arc, what the anime does instead is to make the girls seem all helpless and make Saito save them and as a result, they fall in love with him. Heck, I even think that some of the side characters have deeper personalities and are more fleshed out than the actual MC’s. I mean, Agnes and Colbert, two side characters had an ENTIRE arc dedicated to them just to reveal their back stories and were actually given a good introduction and excellent character development, all done with good execution but were just thrown away into the sidelines, only appearing thrice or four times in each season after their arc were finished. Now, there’s the problem. Instead of focusing their efforts on developing the main characters, they put their efforts in developing characters that would barely appear in the series while they could have given all that effort into fleshing out the main characters or even at least removing Saito’s inability to reject a girl’s advances especially since he’s already in a relationship. And top it all off, even the antagonist are just plain terrible and don’t stick around for long, as I’ve mentioned before. With all of those blunders, the only score I could give it is a 3/10, since pretty much every character are just about as interesting as one of those singing birthday cards; fun at first, but just damn annoying and noisy later on.
Animation: Pretty much the only good thing in this anime. Animation was smooth and shiny, just the way I like it. Although just like everything in this anime, there is always something lacking. The action scenes are so dull, it’s almost a bore to watch them. While fight scenes are supposed to be epic and adrenaline-inducing, the fight scenes in ZnT is just about as dull as watching someone else brush their teeth. It’s so slow that it almost look like it’s from a children’s cartoon show. So even with the animation, I can’t give it a perfect score due to the failure on the part of the animators, so instead I’ll just give it a 7/10 and be done with it.
Sound: There really isn’t much to say about the sound except that all of the BGMs were reused from the first season till the end and that the openings are pretty much sound just the same, only with different lyrics. 7/10
Enjoyment: Despite all of the negative comments I put up there, I actually enjoyed the first season. After that though, everything went downhill and my hopes of seeing a new masterpiece were completely shattered. But still though, I will take into consideration that I enjoyed ¼ of this anime so I guess giving it a 3/10 is good enough.
Overall: In conclusion, I would like to say that Zero no Tsukaima could’ve been a great anime. Unfortunately, all of that potential was wasted on a subpar plot, mediocre characters, and lame humor. To all those who are planning to watch this, only watch it if you are a die-hard tsundere fan or just watch the first season since the rest are crap. Overall I give it a 5/10.
If you have any comments, please post a comment on my page. I will gladly receive any criticism, good or bad and I will try my best to reply to your comment. Thanks for reading my review :))

An anime about drills and robots. Yep, that’s Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Well, that’s not something you see everyday. Now, when I started watching this anime, I had a certain feeling inside me, a gut feeling that this anime would bore me because as far as I’m concerned, the mecha genre has long died. But hot damn, Gurren Lagann sure proved me wrong! This anime, although as cliché as hell, managed to turn me into something I thought I never would be, which is a mecha fan. Now, that might seem weird, seeing as I just said that it was cliché, but I will tell
...
you the reasons why.
Story: If I have to describe Gurren Lagann in one word, that word would be EPIC. But for you to enjoy it, you’ll have to turn your brain off. You see, Gurren Lagann is not something that was made not to be taken seriously. It is a comedy that relies on over the top action scenes and a lot of explosions to instill that sense of epicness in each scene. It isn’t he kind of anime wherein you’ll need to use your brain constantly just to enjoy the show; all you need to do is sit back, watch and enjoy. Also, as you would expect, the plot itself is pretty straightforward. MC finds a robot, MC goes on an adventure to defeat some evil king and gets a lot of friends and bigger robots along the way. You can also expect a lot of shouting, DBZ style. Well, that’s how it goes for the first half anyway. In the latter half, the story becomes a bit more serious, but not to the point wherein it’s not funny anymore, but of course, I won’t go deep into that. Overall, I give it a 9/10 for the simplicity of the story.
Animation and sound: The art is as you would expect, over the top during fights and pretty normal the rest of the time. Nothing really special, animation was smooth, faces were well drawn although the expressions sometimes look distorted, and the fights were sometimes shown from weird angles. Now, the soundtrack of Gurren Lagann though is a different story. It has literally one of the most EPIC BGMs that i’ve ever heard of out of all the animes that i’ve watched. Not to mention the opening, which is also pretty badass in its own right. Also, I would like to give special mention to pictures during the transitions, because they are just fucking epic. Overall i give animation a 9/10 and music a perfect 10/10.
Characters: What Gurren Lagann lacks in the plot, it makes up with the characters. This is where Gurren Lagann truly shines. The main character, Simon, is a weakling kid who has a habit of self depreciation who turns into a super badass character somewhere in the middle(think Tsuna). He has a silly backstory of being disliked by others because he smells bad, which i find stupid because he's a damn miner. The main female character, Yoko, is your tits and guns type of character who apparently likes to wear a bikini to battle just because she feels like it. Then there’s Kamina, the most badass and awesome character in the entire anime world (imho). The guy can is so awesome that he can read your homework and make it sound like a commandment from god. I mean, the can literally talk about anything and still come up with an epic speech about it.Now, although they seem reminiscent with other anime characters, they are unique in their own way. Each character has a certain depth to them, and at least they have personalities unlike in other animes, wherein the characters have the personality of a rock and the brain of a potato. Also, character development in this anime is very noticeable. Unlike other animes wherein development happens gradually, up to the point that it’s almost unnoticeable, character development in Gurren Lagann happens quickly through big, serious events throughout the story although it doesn’t just happen abruptly and is justifiable. Overall, i give it a 9/10.
Enjoyment: When it comes to enjoyment, Gurren Lagann really delivers.I’ve never enjoyed a mecha anime as much as I did Gurren Lagann. To tell you frankly, Gurren Lagann doesn’t really have much to offer other than pure, brainless fun and enjoyment. It will make you laugh, it can give you an adrenaline rush, and sometimes it can make you cry. It’s one of the few animes that i enjoyed not because it has a great story, but just because it can make you feel happy without having to make you think. I find it unique in that aspect wherein an anime that doesn’t require you to think can keep you on the edge of your seat due to the sheer epicness of the character speeches and the fight scenes. I give it a perfect 10/10.
Overall: Well, like all anime, Gurren Lagann is not everyone’s cup of coffee. You might like it, you might not, but for me I really liked it so all that’s left for me to say is that I give this anime a 9/10.
One thing that I would like to say is to those who plan to watch this series is that DON’T TAKE IT TO SERIOUSLY. It’s supposed to be a light-hearted anime wherein you just need to sit back, get some popcorn and prepare for awesomeness. If you’re not a fan of humor or DBZ style action scenes wherein everything just literally blows up, then I suggest that you just try and give it a shot. Who knows, you might grow to love it.
If you liked this review then please give the helpful button a click, it means a lot to me. Also, I would highly appreciate criticism, so that I can improve my reviews. Thx :))

Story: Action with huge tits? 10/10
Animation & sound: Awesome boob physics and moans? 10/10
Characters: Hunk that grabs tits and steals underwear for no reason, huge busty chicks, and even a loli! What more can you ask for? 10/10
Enjoyment: had some good faps, saw some tits and lesbian scenes, OBVIOUSLY I ENJOYED!!10/10
Overall: Good appetizer before i go watch some real porn/hentai. 10/10
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, I think it was quite obvious that everything I wrote above were just jokes, or is it? Hagure Yuusha no Estetica seemed like a very promising anime when I first saw it. Now that i’ve watched it though, i’ll have to say that judging
...
a book by its cover is a very fitting saying as to what this anime is. I was utterly disappointed as to what is has become, as it had a great concept and could’ve been a good anime. But what exactly went wrong?
Story: This is the biggest fault of the anime. I remember when I first read the description of this anime from a website. It says that “Hero defeats bad guy. Good triumphs over evil. The end. Or, at least that's how it usually goes. But what happens after the hero goes home? Our hero, Ohtorizawa Akatsuki, is about to find out that sometimes the greatest adventure starts once happily ever after ends.”. Now, with a description like that, I couldn’t help but be curious. At first, I thought that this could probably be the setting of a good comedy, or maybe he hasn’t really defeated the demon king and that this would become a good shounen anime. After I watched the first few episodes though, I realised that I was completely wrong. While I was watching the first episode, the first thing that hit me was “what in the world is this guy doing, stealing panties and stuff?”. Of course, I was ok with that, as i’ve seen a lot of anime with those kind of stuff. Then somewhere in the middle of that episode, some girl with huge, uncensored tits suddenly appears out of nowhere. Of course, I also wasn’t fazed by this, as I thought that “ok, i’ve seen this somewhere before. Ranma ½ did some titty flashes too but it turned out as a good anime.”. But as i got deeper into this anime, I realized one thing. THIS IS NEITHER A COMEDY NOR A SHOUNEN ANIME, IT’S A DAMN ECCHI ANIME! Ok, so it is an ecchi anime, i’ve watched some ecchi animes, but this one is just terrible. It has an absolutely terrible plot, or it doesn’t have an actual plot, for that matter. It seems that whoever made this anime just makes a couple of scenarios that will lead into either the main character grabbing and flashing some tits and stealing underwear. Action, which was supposed to be its main theme, was just used as an excuse to make the female characters wear skimpy outfits and FUCKING BIKINI ARMOR. In other words, instead of using its potential to become a great anime, it just resorted to fanservice and tits to hook its viewers. Although it does have an actual plot, which is that some secret organization is planning to do nasty stuff with the main character right in the middle of it, it just becomes second priority for the people who made this crap, as it seems that they try to add ecchi even in the most serious scenes. I mean seriously, so the lead main character got poisoned and is losing body heat. Sounds like a serious situation? Well, what does female lead character do? SHE STRIPS AND HUGS THE MAIN LEAD CHARACTERS, THAT’S WHAT! So yeah, in conclusion, I would give this anime a 3/10 for the story for reasons that I should have explained clearly above.
Animation and sound: The only good thing about this anime. The animation was smooth and clean, the mouth syncs properly with the voice and the OP and the background music was good enough, although nothing special. This is the only criteria that I could give a 7/10, as it is neither fantastic nor mediocre.
Characters: I don’t think that there is a need to even discuss this. The characters are just about as interesting as a potato, or a rock as not make it sound so degrading for the potatoes. They are just pathetic excuses for the makers of this anime to make ecchi scenes. I mean, every girl in this series have like F-cup boobs, with the exception of one Loli. Heck, they even made a background story for the main character, that he was trained in things like finding and fitting the right size of bras for concubines. Since there really isn’t much to discuss about this criteria anymore than what is mentioned above, I would just give it a 2/10 and get it over with.
Enjoyment: Unlike my joke review, no, I didn’t enjoy this anime. There is no story to enjoy, characters are very boring, and it is an utter waste of time. I give it a 1/10.
Overall: Very rarely do I give a score below 6 to any anime, but this anime doesn’t deserve anything higher than a 3, so I would give it a 2/10 for being a complete waste of my time.
If you have read the entire review and are not mentally retarded, then please don’t watch this anime as it is a complete waste of time unless you have some other plans. :ifyouknowwhatimean: DAMMIT, I WANT 240 MINUTES OF MY LIFE BACK!

Very rarely does an anime touch my heart. For me who has seen my fair share of anime, it seems that I have started to build up a resistance against the emotional effects of seeing such emotional scenes. That wasn’t the case with Ef: A tale of Memories. After watching countless animes that has done nothing but barely scratch the surface of my icy cold heart, here comes Ef: A Tale of Memories, one of the very few animes that managed to make me feel once again the reason why I loved anime.
Story: A story of love, sadness, success and triumph over the impossible. These
...
are some words that can describe what Ef is about. This is literally one of the BEST animes out there in terms of a great and well-planned story. Right off the bat, Ef gave me the impression of a great anime. The very first episode managed to catch my attention, it was mysterious, it was interesting, and it got the better of my curiosity. It started off as pretty confusing, with three stories happening simultaneously and yet, once the story got rolling, it never slowed down. From the very beginning until the end, it was filled with suspense, twist, turns, revelations that there never was a dull moment. There were moments filled with romance that can make you all warm and fluffy inside. There were moments of comedy, which will make you red with laughter. There were also moments of sadness, which will make you break down into tears. It was a mixture of so many things yet it managed to blend them perfectly, creating a perfect balance between three different concepts. It also manages to glue you down to your seat. Every episode ends with a perfect cliffhanger that it’s impossible to stop watching after you’ve started. To put it all in a nutshell, the story of Ef is like a painting; a mixture of many colors, yet it manages to portray the diverse amount of emotions that it is trying to show. Overall I give it a 10/10 for creating such a complex yet compelling story that never bored me for a single second.
Animation and sound: Shaft animation managed to create another masterpiece. Having animated some of my favorite animes, I had high hopes, and I wasn’t disappointed. Shaft delivered exactly the type of art and animation that Ef needed. It’s simple, smooth, with dramatic accents in the intense parts. The sound was also beautiful. The background music was subtle, it was perfect of each scene, whether happy or not. It is also worth mentioning that the OP and the ED, which was only both shown once, was just perfect for the anime. I give it a 8/10 for sound, because the OP and ED were only shown once and a 10/10 for animation.
Characters: A girl who forgets, a professional manga artist, an amateur movie director, an aspiring novelist, an athlete and a rebellious student. These are the description of main characters of Ef, and while there are some other interesting characters, those that I mentioned are the most important. To me actually, the characters of Ef are one of its best points. Each character is well developed, and no character is left hollow. You can actually relate to them in some way, and after some time, you can grow attached to them. Each of them is also unique, and no two characters can be considered as a typical anime stereotype. Overall, I give it a 10/10, because everything is perfect; the characters manage to grab the hearts of the audience, and whether you love them or hate them by the end of the series you will realize their importance and that the story would not be the way it is if even one of them was missing. They are like a puzzle, each character connects one to the other, and if one is missing then everything will be ruined.
Enjoyment: A splendid anime indeed, and needless to say, I really enjoyed it. As I’ve mentioned before, this anime piqued my interest and as a fan of story-driven animes, this was a truly memorable experience. There are very few animes which has managed to glue me to my seat like this one, and this one managed to make me everything in one go, That’s how enjoyable it is. I would give this a 10/10,
Overall: I’ve explained everything I liked about this anime, so I’ll just stick a big, fat 10/10 in this section. Well, not really. There are still some things that I liked about his anime that cannot simply be explained with words. It gave me a strange feeling, something like a mixture of love and sadness, or something entirely different. I don’t know, I guess the only way for you to know what it is is to see it yourself.
Now, this review might seem a bit biased, as it seems like I gave every criteria a perfect 10/10. But really, it is that great and it deserves that score. I would gladly put it on my favorites list, along with some of my other favorite animes. I highly suggest that you watch this anime, because if you don’t, then you are missing out on something HUGE. I can’t believe about how long I left this anime in my to-watch-list. If I knew it was this good earlier, if only I knew that this gem was hiding in my list all along, I would’ve watched it instantly. It’s just that I was afraid that this would turn out differently than I expected. As my final regards, I can guarantee you that this Ef: A Tale of Memories won’t disappoint you unless you are the kind of guy/gal who doesn’t a love story with a great plot.
If this review has helped you in any way, or if have any comments regarding about my opinions, my style of writing or anything at all, don’t hesitate to write a comment on my page, I will make sure to take note of your criticism and reply to you if possible. Btw, thanks for reading this review, because this is probably the longest one I’ve written up to date, so thank you if you’ve read everything :))

To tell you frankly, I’m having mixed feelings about this one. Black Rock Shooter (which will now be known as BRS), being a short anime with only 8 episodes is not that easy to rate. On one hand, I really want to give it a high score but on the other hand, I see a lot of flaws in the story itself. Well, we won’t get anywhere by talking like this so let’s just get on to the review.
Story: Actually, I think that BRS had one of the greatest potentials in any anime I have seen up to date. That’s why I find it sad
...
that the story didn’t develop properly because the series was too short. To provide you with a quick overview of the story, it starts off with a girl named Kuroi Mato, who has been having dreams about some girls who are constantly fighting in an alternate world. It turns these girls are actually their “souls”, the ones who carry the burden of all their sorrow. I won’t mention anything else from the plot but let me tell you, it could’ve been one of the most epic storyline out there if only it had been executed properly. You see, the problem with the plot is that it was way too short while being too fast paced. The story didn’t have time to develop. It was all happening too fast that the one watching would either not be able to enjoy it or would be left utterly confused because pace of the story. It also suffers from poor explanations. In the entire anime, there were very little explanations, leaving the viewers bewildered as to what is happening since no explanations were given. For example, although the latter half of the story is spent on the alternate world, we, the viewers have no idea as to what it is exactly. They also never explained as to why only girls have “soul” counterparts. Heck, they didn’t even mention as to why they even fight in the first place. To put it simply, it seems that the author took these things for granted, leaving us with an anime with a good plot, but done with poor execution. I will only give this a 7/10 for the reasons stated above.
Art and Sound: If there is one thing that made this anime truly awesome, it would be the animation. Although the real world looks normal, like your everyday generic anime, it is during the fight scenes that BRS truly shines. The animation was superb, with slick movements, great art and those weird yet epic angles. The special effects were also beautifully rendered, with blood being replaced by spurts of light of each character’s respective color motif. There are also those scenes where they have sword clashes, with sparks flying everywhere, scenes wherein they fight using guns, with shells raining down like no tomorrow and of course, some good hand to hand combat. Lastly, the background was also beautifully drawn, with each fight happening in a differently themed area, adding to the awesomeness of these scenes. These scenes were the one of the few redeeming qualities of BRS, and I’ll have to say, they really did a great job on this part. Now, with regard to the songs, they were pretty good, but they weren’t really my type of music (the OP was actually sung by Hatsune Miku). The background music though is something that I like a lot. It provides the ambience needed for each scene, and it’s one of the things I liked. I also found the voice acting good. The voices syncs properly with the characters mouths and it wasn’t overdone(A.K.A overacting).Overall, I give art a 9/10, because the anime only shines during the fights, and is pretty bland during the normal scenes while I give sound a 8/10, because I didn’t like the opening.
Characters: Now, if only this part was done right, it could’ve saved the entire anime, but unfortunately they didn’t. The characters had good concepts, but character development was going way too fast that it looked stupid, or at least unnatural. The main character, Kuroi is just a normal girl, who goes to school and basically enjoys life then suddenly she starts spouting nonsense philosophical lines about pain and stuff. Then there’s also Black Rock Shooter herself, who is pretty much an emotionless mute. Then there’s Kagari, a girl who is a bit sick in the head suddenly turns into a cutesy tsundere girl. And there’s Yomi, a girl who gets way too attached to people. There are other characters out there, but it would take too long to mention them all but the bottom line is, the characters are developing way too fast that they start to become boring. Overall, I would give it a 6/10 because the character development is poor, although this can also be blamed on the pacing of the story itself, which is way too fast.
Enjoyment: Did I enjoy it? Not really. I can’t say that it bored me but I also can’t say that I enjoyed it thoroughly. The Fight scenes were awesome and I enjoyed them, but the story itself was boring, and so are the characters, so they pretty much cancel out each other. All I can give it is a 7/10 since it wasn’t a “meh” anime nor is it an “Uber Awesome!” anime but more of an “OK” anime.
Overall: As I’ve said, I’m having mixed feelings about this anime. But since I’m more of a fan of story-driven animes, I’d be a bit biased and give this anime a 7/10.Now, if you’re the kind of person who likes action and stuff like that, I will suggest that you watch this cuz’ you will probably like this anime.

I should I say this, Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica or Puella Magi Madoka(or simply Madoka Magica, as I like to call it) is not your average Mahou shojou anime. As I have deep rooted loathing for cute-looking, frilly dresses and cute transformation scenes, I never really planned to watch this anime. After reading such good comments about it I felt a bit left out, so I decided to try it without getting my hopes to high. After finishing it though, I was really amazed. How in the world did I not only watch the entire thing, but am still craving for more? Well, without further
...
ado, let’s get on to the review and see the reasons.
Story: Madoka Magica is more or less a story-driven anime, my kind of type. To make a brief summary of the story, it is about a girl named Madoka who meets a rabit-cat hybrid thing called kyubey, who will grant one of your wishes. In exchange, you will have to become a mahou shoujo and fight evil witches. To tell you frankly, the story seems so cliché that it’s painful to read but no, Madoka Magica is way more than just that. At the first few episodes, I could have sworn that continuously watching this might make me lose my manliness, and that I might have to wrestle with a bear just to get back my balls. Although at first it starts out like that, with cute stuff everywhere, no, it is just disguise that will enhance the eerie mood of the later episodes. What made the story so good is that the change in its theme, from a light-hearted anime filled with cute girls and frilly dresses to a dark anime filled with sorrow and darkness. Though that on its own would not have made it great, it was along with the execution that made it great. The transition between the two was so smooth that it completely took me by surprise because you don’t see it happening, it just happens gradually. Another good thing about it is that even though it turns dark later on, it doesn’t lose its core theme, which is mahou shoujo. Even though the setting turned different, it was still the same frilly dresses and the same cute girls, it doesn’t change. And with that, I give it a 10/10 for a story that despite its outward appearance, managed to pique my interest and make me question whether I should forget my hatred for this genre.
Art and sound: The art is more of a hit and a miss. For me who’s more of a guy who likes the clean and slick animation that most new animes sport today, as well as more normal faces, I didn’t really like the art that well. Sure it cute and moe, I guess it just comes down to preference with this type of things. One thing I can’t deny though is the awesomeness of the fight scenes. As fight scenes in this anime usually happen inside the witch’s world, it would only be fitting for me to describe it to you. It is a very weird place wherein everything seems like it was hand drawn with chalk, with visuals that rival that of the randomness of Nisemonogatari. Now back to the fight scenes, they are wonderfully animated, something that I didn’t expect out of an anime in the mahou shoujo genre. The fights were fast, smooth and even epic in some scenes. As for the music, they were true masterpieces. The opening which has a lively, upbeat tone perfectly complements the beginning of the story while the ending has a sort of dark feel to it somehow gives a sort of premonition about the later episodes. All in all I give it another 10/10 in both fields because I have nothing to complain about them, they’re perfect.
Character: Well, seeing as this is a mahou shoujo anime, you can expect a lot of cute girls. And what do girls do? They laugh, eat bentos on the rooftop, talk about love and boys? WRONG! Well, at least for this anime. Although those things I mentioned earlier aren’t completely incorrect, Madoka Magica developed the characters in such a way that over time, they turn dark, revealing things that you would never expect. Heck, even the familiar kyubey was developed into one of the more amazing characters I’ve seen. To put it simply, character development in this anime is wonderful. It wasn’t rushed, it wasn’t over the top, but just right.10/10
Enjoyment: I really can’t tell you why I enjoyed it, it just is enjoyable. It made me laugh, it made me sad it made me excited, and it made me feel all fuzzy inside, something that the newer animes fail to give me. Overall I give it a 10/10.
Overall: Nothing much to say, except that this is indeed one of the best animes of 2011, and I highly recommend it for everyone to watch. Just beware though because this anime can give you a bittersweet feeling at the end. I give this anime a 9/10.
Wait, WTF, why only a 9/10 when you gave it like 10/10 in all criteria? Well, this is a MAJOR SPOILER so if you are planning on watching this anime, turn back and don’t read it. Now, my reason is that I didn’t like the time travel concept in this anime. Yes, I know I might sound a bit biased but it’s just that Homura creating multiple timelines, Madoka becoming a god and changing the laws of the universe and stuff like that just didn’t tickle my fancy like other animes did, Steins;Gate for example. In other words, they didn’t do it well, or at least not as good as an anime focused on actual time travel but instead made a couple of plotholes at the very end of the story, making look messy and overall disappointing. For short, I didn’t like the ending. Although I said this, it might have been done deliberately in preparation for the movie and so, that is my reason.

I’ve seen a crap ton of reviews about Sword Art Online and I say that it seem that there seems to be a group of people who likes it and another group that doesn’t. Now, i’m just gonna give my two cents about Sword Art Online(which would now be known as SAO) so please bear with me. Now on to the review.
SAO had one of the most promising story that i’ve ever seen, but my expectations were quickly destroyed by the lousy storytelling/narration, slow pacing, and the way it’s presented. The story started with a guy named Kirito, a normal guy who likes Virtual Reality
...
Massive Multiplayer Online Games(VRMMOGs for short). Now, this doesn’t seem interesting at all, but what happens when a simple game like SAO suddenly turns into a matter of life and death, wherein when you die in game, you die in real life? Of course you aren’t allowed to log out, so what do you do, you have to beat the game. Now, with a story that sounds as awesome as that, what made SAO such a bad anime? First off, the pacing itself. The story was going way to fast. It skipped way to many things that it became somewhat episodic, as if the story is made entirely of fillers. It even came to the point wherein I can no longer tell which was canon, and which was not, or if everything was even canon at all. Secondly, the fight scenes were too dull. As a genre focused on fighting(hence the name), I expected better fights than the ones shown in here. I don’t know what went wrong, but it was just lacklustre. The fights were way too slow, compared to the story which was too fast. To put it simply, there was a lack of “epicness” in the fights, and why is something that is hard to put into words. Lastly, the story itself lost its shine after a while. At first it was interesting, but later on it became plain boring. For me, I just felt that it was a chore to watch, which shouldn’t be the case as I was supposed to enjoy it. It felt like I was watching a play with amateur actors. I just can’t feel any emotions from the characters. It couldn’t make me laugh, it couldn’t make me sad, and it definitely didn’t give me the adrenaline rush that I was expecting when I watched this anime.
On top of that, the characters didn’t really grow on me. I felt no attachment to them, unlike when I watched other animes. Don’t get me wrong, the characters had interesting personalities but due to the pacing of the story itself, it didn’t give me enough time to fall in love with the characters, to grow to like them. So in the end, seeing some of them dying or near death doesn’t evoke a feeling of danger within me, and as if it was ok if they just get thrown to the bin since I don’t care about them. Think about it this way. If you have watched Naruto, how did you feel when Ero-Senin died? It doesn’t matter if you cried or not, but you should have at least felt something or at least muttered something like ”aww he died”. But that isn’t the case here. Some of the character aren’t developed enough that it feels like they are expendables which can just be killed later on. They felt hollow, and that is another one of the weak points of this anime.
Now of course, even though the story and the characters weren’t that good, one of the saved this anime was the animation and the sound. Everything was neat and shiny, a trend that can be noticed among the newer animes today. I also can’t deny that the OP, Crossing Field, which is sung by LiSA(she also sung another one of my favourites) , is just awesome.
Aside from that, there really isn’t much to this anime. I am willing to give it a 7/10 because it just isn’t my cup of coffee, but if you still want to watch it, then be my guest.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now, if I’m going to make a comparison between the anime and the light novel, I’m going to say that the anime is utter bullshit compared to the LN. This section isn’t really part of my review, and this will be more of a rant than a review, so read at your own discretion.
I can’t really tell what the fuck happened with the anime. The LN was soooo good, but what really happened? If you have watched the anime before reading the light novel, the first thing that you wil notice is that the LN contained a crapload more details than the anime. Everything was thoroughly explained, and there was a careful attention to detail. Now, in the transition from the LN to the anime, it seems that half of those details and explanations just vanished into thin air. I don’t know what the fuck the producers of the anime were thinking, but in the LN wherein everything was vividly illustrated, the producers just fucked everything up and turned it into a mediocre anime. For example, in the LN, each skill that was used in the series has a name. For example Vorpal Strike,Horizontal ,Linear and some more, but in the anime there was no mention of this. Another example would me about the fights in the LN, the fights were beautifully describes while in the anime, it was more of a “mehhh” than a “THAT WAS FUCKING AWESOME”. Also, in the LN, the inner thoughts of the characters where well written, providing us with insight on what the characters are thinking about. This also helped in character development as we can see how they’re way of thinking changed over time but in the anime, it clearly wasn’t there. Although as much as I hate to say this, It is painfully obvious that SAO is more suited as a LN and that turning it into an anime might just be a stupid money grab, and this will remain as my opinion unless the anime changes otherwise.

Fate/stay night
Prior to watching this anime, I watched and made a review about Fate/Zero. As I finished Fate/Zero, my expectations for this anime were extremely high. I seriously thought that this would be and uber awesome anime, but boy was I wrong. It might have been a mistake in my part to watch Fate/Zero first but still, I am very disappointed. I will try not to spoil anything so please bear with me if I don’t put too many details. Now before you click the not helpful button, let’s get on to the review.
While I was reading a few comments about Fate/Stay Night, some of them
...
were praising about how awesome it was but the way I see it, Fate/Stay Night is a highly overrated anime. To start off, the story itself seemed off. The pacing was horrible, the story was unclear, and the way it suddenly change genre in the middle of the story was just absolutely terrible. The story started off incredibly slow that I had to force myself just to get through it, hoping that it would get better somewhere in the middle. Then it did speed up in the middle, but it sped up way too much that there wasn’t enough time to explain some concepts regarding the main objects of the story like the Holy Grail, noble phantasms and even the magic they use. After that it took a turn for the worse. A story focused on action suddenly takes a sharp turn and desperately tries to emulate a love story, which was just terrible. Not that I’m saying that a little romance is bad but a little too much that it affects the story is not good. And just when the story was reaching its climax, the antagonist just dies and there, end of the story. It was so disappointing because just when I thought that it was getting good it suddenly ends, leaving a bitter taste in my mouth.
There is also a problem when it comes to the characters. The main Protagonist, Emiya was too weak. He was a pathetic excuse for a righteous hero. All he did was serve as a meat shield and a love interest for the main heroine, Saber and BAM, shit happens. Aside from that, he is also so damn stupid that it’s unbearable(I mean seriously, “people die when they are killed” wtf, no shit Sherlock?). Saber in my opinion, was a good character from the start. Serious, stoic, and just badass but then Emiya makes a sacrifice for her a couple of times and from a badass character, she turns into a tsundere that blushed EVERY FUCKING TIME that she’s alone with Emiya(obvious sarcasm here people). The rest of the characters are Rin, Sakura, Ilya and that other annoying woman. I only mentioned them because they weren’t really given enough time to develop into proper characters. Heck, even the main antagonist, Gilgamesh and his master(won’t mention the name, major spoiler) were given so little time that I never even felt like they were there. I mean like seriously, Gilgamesh, being the main antagonist was only shown in like only like six out of twenty-four episodes, SIX! And during those six episodes, he had like only 60 minutes of screen time, certainly not enough for viewers to build strong feelings for him. So when he died, it felt like nothing happened.
To top it off, the graphics were terrible and so is the music although it can easily be overlooked considering that the anime was made in 2005. it can’t really be judged with today’s standards so i just decided to overlook it.
Overall, I think that it really is a big disappointment in my part. As I watched Fate/Zero, my expectation was very high, only to be crushed by a mediocre anime. As I’ve mentioned before, it really is an overrated anime that was a little ambitious and failed to deliver what it tried to bring. That is why I only give it a 6/10
This is my opinion and if you have anything to say, please put a comment on my page. I won’t flame you if you don’t agree with my review, but be prepared to defend your stand :))
